Chapter 750
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
âHow long has she been asleep?â Jonathan asked the caretaker. âAbout an hour,â the caretaker answered.
Jonathan bent down and gently stroked Rosalieâs cheek.
Only at this time could he touch her like that. He feared she would throw up because of her physical resistance toward him.
Shock flashed across the caretakerâs eyes.
She had been arranged to take care of Rosalie before but had never seen Jonathan appear. The caretaker had always thought Rosalie only managed to marry into the Youngblood family because she was pregnant with children and that Jonathan did not care about her.
Now, the caretaker was a little dumbfounded as she watched the scene.
Jonathan seemed to care dearly for Rosalie that even his touch was so careful as if he was handling a precious treasure.
Suddenly, Rosalieâs eyelashes fluttered slightly, and she opened her eyes in a daze. When Jonathanâs face entered her vision, she mumbled, âJonâ¦â
Jonathanâs body stiffened abruptly, but he had subconsciously retracted his hand. âSorry for waking you up. If youâre still sleepy, you can sleep longer,â he said. âNo need. If I go back to sleep, Iâll be unable to fall asleep at night.â She sat up slowly.
He wanted to help her sit up but immediately withdrew his hands upon remembering something and let the caretaker help Rosalie up.
âThen, you should wash up. Iâll have someone serve the food,â Jonathan said. âOkay,â Rosalie replied and got up.
Because her stomach had grown bigger, her movements had become more sluggish.
After she finished washing up and came to the dining room, she saw Jonathan quietly sitting on the chair at the table. He was looking down as if staring at his own hands.
âWhatâs wrong with his hands?â Rosalie wondered.
He seemed to have felt her gaze and looked up. Then, he stepped forward and pulled out a chair for her. He never touched her at all from beginning to end.
This was her first New Yearâs celebration after marrying into the Youngblood family. The housekeepers and caretakers were not dining with them but eating in another small hall., Only Rosalie and Jonathan were at the wide dining table.
10:26 The meal was sumptuous. Almost all the dishes at the New Yearâs Eve dinner were Rosalieâs favorite.
Rosalie ate bite after bite while glancing sideways at Jonathan from time to time. She thought, âNow that I met Jonathan, I should tell himâ¦
âWhy do you keep sneaking looks at me? You can look at me openly if you want. Weâre a married couple, arenât we?â Jonathan suddenly said.
Rosalie felt awkward after being caught stealing glances at Jonathan.
âYou know what? Iâm happy,â Jonathan continued.
Rosalie was startled. âHappy?â
Jonathan gazed at Rosalie and said, âIâm happy you asked me to have this New Yearâs Eve dinner with you, and Iâm happy you want to see me again. Also, Iâm glad you called me Jon again. Did you miss me in the past few days, Rosie?â She stared at him in a daze. Of course, she missed him. She kept thinking about their past and imagining their future.
âI missed you very much. I kept thinking about you these days,â Jonathan murmured, his voice sounding slightly airy.
Rosalie bit her lip. As if she had made up her mind, she said, âYes, I missed you.â Jonathanâs eyes lit up like stars glistening when those words escaped her mouth. The corner of his mouth curved into a handsome smile.
âYou missed meâ¦â he kept muttering excitedly. Tears welled up in his beautiful eyes.
She looked at his excited expression and was lost in thought for a moment. She pondered, âMy words can make him behave this way? I know he loves me. Thereâs no doubt about it. And I also love him, donât I?â
âLetâs eat first. Otherwise, the food might get cold,â Rosalie said.
âOkay, letâs eat first. This is our first time celebrating New Yearâs Eve together. You will have New Yearâs Eve dinner with me every year from now on, right?â he asked with a nervous look, a glimmer of hope flashing in his eyes.
She knew what kind of answer he wanted to hear and did not want to disappoint him.
âYes. Letâs have New Yearâs Eve dinner together every year from now on,â she said.
This was a promise and also to fulfill his expectations and desires.
The next moment, two rows of tears poured out of Jonathanâs eyes and trickled down his face. He was crying, but his lips were smiling.
The smile was like the most beautiful spring, a sight difficult to look away from. For a moment, Rosalie only felt a tinge of pain in her heart.
It took them a while to finally finish the New Yearâs Eve dinner because Jonathan cried.
âI-I want to watch some New Yearâs Eve programs with you. Can you accompany 10:26 D me?â Rosalie said. Speaking of which, she had not watched those programs for many years.
Rosalie could vaguely remember her cuddling in her grandmother Wilmaâs arms as a child while watching the New Yearâs Eve programs.
Later, Rosalie went back to her so-called home in the city. However, it was always her father Gordon, stepmother Caitlin, and sister Loretta, waiting in front of the TV and watching the shows. Rosalie was always like an outsider who could not blend in with such a family.
It was only during the two years she and Zachary dated that her family deliberately showed goodwill to her, but Rosalie had never felt a familial connection to them.
âOkay,â Jonathan replied. âIf you want to see it, Iâll watch it with you.â
The show began at 8 p.m.
Rosalie and Jonathan sat on the couch in the living room, watching the played on the large TV screen.
This was something Rosalie had never experienced before.
programs She seemed to feel a long-lost peace, similar to staying by Wilmaâs side and watching the show in the past. However, it was also slightly different.
Perhaps it was because, to her, Jonathan was not only her family but also the one she loved.
As the show was playing, Rosalie suddenly turned and looked at Jonathan who was sitting beside her.
âJon⦠I-I will try my best to forget what happened in the past.â
Jonathanâs body stiffened abruptly. His gaze at her was filled with a mix of shock, surprise, expectation, and nervousness. âRosie, youâ¦â
âIs it what I think it is? Could it be possible?â Jonathan wondered.
At that moment, Jonathan was so nervous that his mind was blank, like a man awaiting his judgment.
