Chapter 763
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Alan continued, âBut try not to mention Rosalie when Jonathan is around. Even though he doesnât seem to have much affection for her anymore, he doesnât like to hear her name being mentionedâ.
âHow could he let her go?â Calvin still had the look of disbelief on his face.
Alan shrugged. âWhy couldnât he? Sheâs just a woman. A man like Jonathan can have any woman he wants. But women who can give birth to a son like that are a dime a dozen.â
Alan shuddered at the memory of the boy from the Youngblood family. He was a five-year-old boy with an unfathomably high IQ. Alan grew increasingly angry as he remembered his humiliating encounter with the boy.
He thought, âFortunately, heâs not my son. If he were my son, he would probably dominate me completely.â
Jonathan was the only one who could discipline that boy.
Calvinâs expression darkened. âJust a woman, huh?â he mused. âThat woman nearly drove Jonathan crazy. Could he let go of a love like that?â he stated.
Calvin finished the glass of wine and walked over to Jonathan.
âDamn it, Calvin!â Alan muttered. âIs he going to talk to Jonathan about Rosalie? Could it be that Calvin hasnât moved on from her after five years?â Alan pondered.
Alan ran after him with that alarming thought, afraid of Calvin and Jonathan causing another scene at the mention of Rosalieâs name again.
âAfter all, they almost fought for Rosalie before!â he thought to himself.
Calvin had arrived almost before Jonathan. Some wealthy businessmen from Strico, who had been chatting with Jonathan, stepped aside when they saw Calvin approaching.
After all, he was a scion of the entertainment industry and one of the most powerful men in Strico.
âWhat a surprise to see you here. When did you get back?â Jonathan smiled as if he was greeting an old friend.
âThis is not a coincidence. I knew youâd be here tonight, and since I wanted to see you, I made a special trip to see you,â Calvin said.
âOh?â Jonathan raised his eyebrows. âTo see me? For what?â
âDo you still have feelings for Rosalie?â Calvin asked bluntly.
Jonathanâs smile faded. He stared at Calvin and replied, âItâs none of your business.â
âI just want to know if you still have her in your heart,â Calvin said.
11:18 D The surrounding air seemed to freeze. The nearby guests tactfully stayed away, wishing they had heard nothing.
They valued their own lives more than a piece of gossip.
Had they heard anything not meant for their ears, their time in Strico would have come to a premature end.
Jonathan narrowed his eyes. Suddenly, he smiled and said, âI seem to recall that you once liked her, too. Do you still have that woman in your heart?â
Calvinâs expression changed dramatically. He thought, âThat woman⦠Jonathan used the phrase âthat womanâ to describe Rosalie.
What is going on? And why did Jonathan use the word âseemâ? He knows better than anyone that I used to like Rosalie, doesnât he?â
âYouâ¦â Before Calvin could finish his sentence, Alan grabbed his arm and turned to Jonathan. âCalvin is a little tipsy, Jonathan,â Alan said apologetically. âItâs just a little drunken rambling. Please donât mind him.â
As he spoke, Alan quickly pulled Calvin away.
Calvin refused to budge. âLet go of me,â he told Alan. âI want to clarify this once and for all.â
âItâs not often that youâre back here in Strico. Why did you have to bother yourself with this? Why donât I take you to some new interesting places in the city?â Alan said hastily.
âLet him go, Alan. If he wants to ask me a question, let him,â Jonathan suddenly said.
âOh, my goodness gracious!â Alan thought in panic. âTheyâd better not start a fight here!â Alan said inwardly. He had no choice but to let Calvin go.
Calvin looked at Jonathan, who smiled faintly. He got the feeling that Jonathan did not know him at all.
He mused, âMaybe five years is enough to make someone feel like a different person.â
Especially in recent years, Calvin had deliberately avoided meeting Jonathan, fearing that if they met, it would remind him even more of Rosalie.
âAre you still in love with Rosalie?â Calvin asked after a moment of hesitation.
âNo,â Jonathan replied firmly. âDoes that answer satisfy you?â
For a moment, Calvin did not know what to say. When Jonathan explained that he did not love her, his gaze was so calm and deep, as if he did not care for the answer.
âIs Jonathan no longer love Rosalie?â Calvin wondered.
Calvin stood frozen like a piece of wood, still wondering, âWhatâs going on? What exactly has happened to Jonathan?â
11:18 As Jonathan emerged from the banquet, Carlos respectfully opened the car door and followed him into the car.
He was absent from Jonathanâs side that night due to a matter he had to attend to, but he realized something had happened during the banquet when he saw Jonathanâs expression.
Carlos was nervous. As he sat in the front row, he wondered if another socialite had pestered Jonathan at the banquet. Then, he heard something unexpected. âBy the way, how much did I love Rosalie back then?â
Carlos swallowed hard before breaking into a violent coughing fit. He never thought Jonathan would ask such a question.
âEr⦠Well⦠Did someone mention Mrs. Youngblood to you today?â Carlos asked cautiously as he observed Jonathanâs expression through the rearview mirror.
Jonathan sat in the back seat, his brows slightly furrowed and his eyes lowered. He looked the same as usual, but Carlos could not tell what Jonathan was thinking at that moment.
âI met Calvin today. From his expression, it was as if not loving Rosalie is something unbelievable,â
Jonathan said nonchalantly.
âUnbelievable, indeed!â Carlos said to himself. If it werenât for the fact that they were worried Jonathan might go crazy, they wouldnât have let Kurt speak to himâ¦
Although Jonathan survived, he had forgotten how serious his relationship with Rosalie was.
To Carlos, Jonathan seemed to be back in the state before he met Rosalie, loving no one and letting no one into his heart. âWait,â Carlos said inwardly, âThere is one exception.â
