Chapter 866
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Lillian lifted her head, her gaze fixed upon the man who had shielded her. Now, he was the one who should be hurting. He had become a human cushion for her. âI⦠Iâm fine,â she hurriedly said, noticing his unusually pale complexion and the beads of sweat forming on his forehead, his brows furrowed in pain.
Lillian quickly stood up and said, âHow about you?â
Callum gasped. âIâm fine.â
Lillian reached out, attempting to help Callum up, but he glanced at her hand and then met her eyes. âIf you donât have feelings for me, donât touch me.â
âI⦠I just wanted to help you up.â
âItâs unnecessary,â he replied, steadying himself and standing on his own.
âLillian, are you alright?â Jerick rushed over anxiously.
âIâm okay, didnât get hurt much,â Lillian replied while thinking, âBut⦠What about Callum? Is he okay?
We fell together just now, and I landed on top of him⦠Is he really unh Jerick turned to Callum and said, âMr. White, thank you for saving Lillian just now.â
Callum raised an eyebrow, his tone mocking. âThank me?â
âYes, Iâm thanking you. Is there a problem?â Jerick met Callumâs gaze confidently.
Callumâs eyes darkened, his face clouded with a layer of gloom. Jerick stared back, unflinching.
In the end, Callum was the one to look away first. His gaze shifted to Rebecca, who was still standing frozen at the escalator exit.
His icy stare jolted Rebecca back to reality, and she hurriedly stammered, âI⦠I didnât mean it; I didnât mean toâ¦â With that, she fled, not looking back.
âThat Rebecca, claiming it wasnât intentional, how outrageous!â Lillian fumed. However, right now, she couldnât catch up to Rebecca anymore.
âThe mall has surveillance cameras. We can report to the police and have them check the footage. She wonât get away with this,â Jerick said.
Hearing that, Lillian nodded in agreement.
Callum turned without a word, intending to leave, âWait Lillian almost instinctively tried to grab Callum, but he sidestepped her louch..
id if you donât have feelings for me, donât touch me!â Callum said coldly.
anted to make sure youâre really okay. Lillian said.
ided, 1. âAnd what if 1 mid tâin uw okay? What then?â
Lillian was taken aback, but Callum left without another word.
âMr. White must love you. Otherwise, he wouldnât have saved you like that.â Jerickâs voice echoed softly. Lillian bit her lip, feeling a mixture of emotions. âDoes he love me? Perhaps he does! Maybe, as he has said before, he has never loved Madeline. His love had always been for me,â she thought.
Nevertheless, she didnât have the courage to love him anymore. In five years, she had shed the audacity and unwavering determination of her youth. She cared about many things now and didnât want her aging parents to worry about her. She just wanted a peaceful life.
At that moment, mall security guards rushed over, asking Lillian and Jerick, âWere you the ones pushed down the escalator? Are you injured?â
âNo.â Lillian shook her head.
Just then, one of the guards asked, âWhat happened? Is someone bleeding? Is anyone else injured besides you two?â
âBleeding?â Lillian thought, taken aback. Following the guardâs gaze, she noticed a trail of crimson on the escalator steps, barely visible against the dark gray color. As the steps were dark gray, the bloodstain wasnât very conspicuous, and Lillian hadnât noticed it before.
âThis blood⦠It was Callumâs!â she thought.
It was where Callum had fallen.
Lillian felt like something heavy was pressing on her chest, making it hard to breathe. He was hurt, but he didnât say anything.
If only she had been more observant, or if he hadnât been wearing dark clothes, maybe she would have noticed.
Back at home, Lillian couldnât sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the image of Callum and her falling on the escalator together.
âWhy hadnât he mentioned his injury? Does he not want any ties with me anymore?â she thought. âThen why did he save me? Why did he happen to be there?â
For a moment, various doubts flooded her mind.
She had thought they were done, but he suddenly claimed that he had always loved her.
When she thought she had made it clear that they couldnât be together, he saved her in that way.
I felt like they were tangled up in a neverâending loop, something she couldnât for untangle, Chijable to sleep, Lilian picked up her phone. It was past two mi the morni The Leos got up and walked to her bedroom window, opening it to get some fresh air. However, when she did, she froze. From her window, she could see a figure leaning against a car, looking up at her.
It was Callum.
Lillian stared blankly, watching his silhouette bathed in the moonlight. The moon made him appear ethereal.
She even had an illusion that he was from her imagination and not really here.
Their eyes met in the middle of the night, and the moment stretched, lingering in the air like an unspoken promise.
After a while, Callum turned around, opened the door, and tried to leave. Without hesitating, Lillian blurted out, âDonât go!â
That shout, in the silent night, sounded unusually clear.
Callumâs body stiffened for a moment, but the next moment, he still opened the car door and got in.
Lillian turned around and rushed out of the bedroom, out of the house, and ran downstairs in swift steps.
Even she couldnât explain why she chased after him. He clearly had no intention. of staying, and running out like that, she would never catch up.
Yet, at that moment, the impulse completely overwhelmed her rationality.
By the time she sprinted to the spot where his car was parked, there was no car anymore, only an empty space.
So, he left.
Lillian sighed, feeling a little disappointed in her heart. She turned to go back, but suddenly, a cold voice came from behind, âWhatâs the matter, are you looking for me?â
