Chapter 875
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
With that, Rosalie turned to leave, but Calvin strode forward, blocking her path. âWait! You havenât disrupted anything. Thereâs no need to hurry off.â
After a momentâs pause, Calvin said, âDid you come to see Mr. Sabatini about your hands? How is your handsâ condition all these years? Have they still been causing you pain?â
His tone was laced with worry, something that was impossible to conceal.
âI appreciate your concern. Mr. Gunner. However, Iâd rather discuss my hands condition with Mr.
Sabatini in private, Rosalie said, her words deflecting Calvinâs worry while maintaining her boundaries.
Calvinâs face turned slightly pale, and he managed a bitter smile. âVery well, you can stay here. Iâll step out.â
With that, he walked out of the consulting room.
Levi looked at Rosalie and addressed her with compassion, âRosalie, Calvin is just expressing his concern for you. During your absence of five years, he frequently asked about you whenever he visited.â
Moments ago, they were talking about her.
Rosalie said with a serious look. âMr. Sabatini, I am now married to Jonathan. If Calvin continues to show concern for me, it would only complicate matters for both of us.â
Levi let out a sigh. âI donât know when that boy will let go. But letâs not dwell on this now. Letâs focus on examining your hands. We paused the treatment when you became pregnant, and itâs been quite some time since we last saw you. Your hands must have been causing you pain frequently, havenât they?â
Rosalie offered a wry smile.
After conducting X-rays and various tests in the clinic for Rosalie, Leviâs expression turned grave.
âWhatâs wrong? Is there an issue?â Rosalie asked.
âWhen we initially began treatment, I warned you that halting the process could worsen your condition.
Now that youâve delayed treatment for so many years and only returned recently, I must inform you that your hands are challenging to treat. In three years at most, they will be severely damaged,â Levi disclosed.
âSeverely damaged?â Rosalie was surprised, her expression showing astonishment rather than fear.
âDo you doubt that your hands will truly be ruined?â Levi asked.
Rosalie shook her head. âLevi, youâre an expert in this field. If you say thereâs a high likelihood my hands will be ruined, then I believe it. When I was pregnant and wanted to discontinue treatment, you warned me of the possible consequences. Since I had made that choice in the past, Iâm prepared to bear the outcome now.â
Over the years, her hands would flare up in painful attacks, and these attacks had grown increasingly frequent, particularly in the past year. To relieve her pain, Rosalie would take painkillers, despite knowing that this temporary relief was no enduring remedy.
During her consultations in the hospital in Lofbury, doctors had shared similar insights, albeit in gentler terms, stating that no medication or surgery could cure her hands. The only solution was to protect these hands well at ordinary times to prolong the nerve numbness of these hands.
When she inquired about how long her hands might function, the doctors in Lofbury provided vague answers, saying, âIt could be ten years, twenty years, or maybe even longer.â
However, none had provided a precise timeframe like Levi.
Levi seemed somewhat surprised. âYou do remember your decision from back then. Well, youâre self-
aware at the very least.â
âIs there a way to save my hands?â Rosalie asked.
âIt depends on luck,â Levi explained. âIf you undergo treatment now and luck is on your side, thereâs a chance to save your hands. If luck doesnât favor you, your hands could deteriorate rapidly, and youâll have less than three years.â
Rosalie remained silent. In essence, she was gambling on success within three years.
âWhen can we begin?â she inquired.
âAre you sure about this?â Levi appeared to admire Rosalieâs determination. âIâm sure. Itâs better to start treatment now than to risk my hands being utterly damaged in three years,â she replied.
âIâll need some time to make preparations, as some things canât be rushed,â Levi said after a brief pause. âIâll let you know when Iâm ready.â
âVery well,â Rosalie agreed without hesitation.
âApart from that, Iâll prescribe some pain relief medication for you. Your hands have likely been in pain over the past year,â Levi added.
Rosalie nodded. After receiving her prescribed medication at Leviâs clinic and exiting the consultation room, she paused abruptly. Calvin and another man were engaged in a tense face-off, with the other manâs back to her. Yet even before the latter turned around, she recognized his silhouette.
Her footsteps seemed to draw their attention. Calvin was the first to turn to look at her.
Then, Jonathan turned and greeted her with a hint of a smile. He walked toward her. âIs your hand okay?â
10.01 Rosalie did want Jonathan to worry, so she replied nonchalantly, âMr. Sabatini has to prepare some things before treatment. Iâll wait for him to notify me when heâs ready to commence treatment.â
âIn that case, letâs go back,â Jonathan said, naturally taking hold of Rosalieâs hand.
Calvin, standing to the side, remained silent. As the two passed by him, he suddenly spoke, âJonathan, can you genuinely trust someone completely? If you canât, someone will eventually find their way into disrupting your relationship, even without the need for me to interfere!â
Jonathan paused in his tracks and shot Calvin a cold glare. âI can trust Rosalie completely. You donât have to worry about it.â
As he uttered those words, Jonathan tightened his grip on Rosalieâs hand and then proceeded to walk her to the car.
As the car slowly drove away from Calvinâs view, a smirk played on his lips. He seethed in silence, âJonathan, you have always been paranoid about your relationship.
If he really trusted her, why would he feel the need to warn her not to harbor feelings for someone else?
After all, Jonathan must still have his doubts. Perhaps he was afraid that her heart might still be with another man, that her love was not enough? Or perhaps, he was afraid that Rosalie might leave him again!â
Seated inside the car, Rosalie could not help but ask Jonathan, âWhat were you and Calvin discussing earlier?â
âNothing important,â Jonathan responded with a subtle smile. âJust a casual chat.â The car stopped at a traffic light, and as they waited for it to turn green, Jonathan. turned toward Rosalie, his eyes locking onto hers as he posed a question, âHe canât come between us, can he?â
Rosalie met his intense gaze. âAs long as we love each other, no one can break us apart.â She knew that, someday, Calvin would have to release his hold on them.
Jonathanâs smile grew even more radiant as the traffic light shifted to green, and he continued to drive.
