Chapter 917
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
âItâs only a week, Lillian. All I ask is to give me another week,â urged Callum.
Lillian was displeased. âWhat in the world do you want, Callum? You refuse to talk about the compensation for the car accident and then keep asking me to give you time. Are you going to ask me to give you a few more weeks in one week again?â
âLillian, Iâ¦â
At this moment, a voice suddenly sounded, interrupting Callum.
âWhat are you two doing together?â
Hearing that, Lillian instantly quivered, for that was her father Stephenâs voice.
Hurriedly, Lillian looked back and spotted her parents standing not far away, looking at the duo in astoundment. Her mother Abigail was even carrying a food basket with plenty of groceries inside.
Unmistakably, Stephen and Abigail had just come back from grocery shopping.
âLillian, you said you had something to do this morning. Was it just to go out with Callum?â Abigail questioned.
Lillian blinked, at a loss for how to explain herself there and then.
âWhat did you two do this early in the morning?â
Lillian was struck dumb, feeling an incoming headache. âHow do I answer that? Am I supposed to tell them that Callum accompanied me to a prenatal checkup early in the morning?â she brooded. Right then, Abigail seemed to think of something, and her expression changed. Then, she approached Stephenâs ear and whispered something that caused his countenance to change as well.
âWeâll talk in the house! Youâre coming with us, Callum!â stated Stephen.
Lillian was taken aback. âDad, you want him to come to our place too?â
âIf not? Heâs already sent you to the door. Shouldnât we âinviteâ him into our house and have a seat?â
Stephen gritted out, emphasizing the word âinvite.â
Lillian still wanted to convince Stephen otherwise, but Callum ended up answering straightforwardly, âSure!â
âYou⦠Youâre really coming to my house?â Lillian looked at Callum in bafflement.
âMr. Quinn has already extended the invitation. Of course, I have to,â said Callum.
With that, the four of them returned to the Quinn residence. Stephen glared at Callum with obvious displeasure. Stephen had only invited Callum to the house because Stephen feared the neighbors would overhear them outside earlier.
Had that not been the case, Stephen wouldâve long chewed out Callum when they were outside.
âLillian, tell me yourself. Are you with this Callum fellow again?â Stephen questioned.
âNo!â Lillian denied it at once.
However, as soon as Lillian finished speaking, Abigail took out a bottle of folic acid and put it on the coffee table. âThen, what is this?â
Lillian scowled at the bottle of folic acid. This was one of the stuff from the pile of parcels Callum had sent her previously. She had stuffed them all into her cabinet at first, but upon learning that folic acid was used to prevent fetal deformity, she took the bottle out and consumed the tablets.
As only one tablet was required a day, Lillian offhandedly put the bottle in the drawer after taking the medication daily.
Alas, now, it appeared in Abigailâs hand.
âMom, you went through my drawer?â Lillian shouted.
Abigail glowered at Lillian. âI was looking for a nail clipper. How would I know Iâd find this instead? I thought you were taking some nonsensical weight-loss pills. But when I got to the pharmacy, they told me this is taken by women who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant!â
09:37 Lillian bit her lip and immediately didnât dare to say anything else.
âLillian, you⦠Why are you eating this for no reason? Donât tell me that you⦠youâ¦â Abigail seemed a little embarrassed to continue.
Stephen, on the other hand, yelled right away, âBe honest with me. Are you pregnant with Callumâs child?â
The more Stephen thought about Lillianâs recent periodical vomiting, her sudden break up with Jerick and being platonic friends with Jerick, the fact that it was Callum who sent Lillian back today, as well as the pile of parcels that were sent to their home inexplicably some time ago, the more Stephen thought this was a possibility.
Lillian almost went down on her knees before Stephen, stunned by how Stephen actually guessed it right based on one box of folic acid!.
Just the sight of Lillianâs expression told Stephen his speculation was correct. Promptly, he stood up and swung a fist at Callum.
Stephen was nearly 60 years old now, so his punch was naturally not too powerful. Nonetheless, Callum did not dodge it and simply stood there motionless, allowing Stephen to beat him up.
âYou little punk! Back then, you broke up with Lillian when she was seriously injured, and now youâve come to take advantage of her again. Havenât you done enough harm to her?â Stephen rained his fist down on Callum repeatedly and soon started panting.
Callum however, remained unmoving as he endured the hits.
In the meantime, Lillian and Abigail hurriedly stopped Stephen. âWhatâs the use of hitting him, Stephen? Itâs pointless right now!â Abigail said.
âHeâs too awful! I need to give him a good beating! Lillian isnât just someone he can take advantage of as he pleases! Just look at him. He pulled up his pants and left right after having his fill, but what about Lillian? How is she going to live in the future?â Stephen bellowed, his fist still landing on Callumâs body.
Callum didnât say a word or defend himself.
Seeing that the corner of Callumâs lips was already bleeding, Lillian hollered anxiously, âDad, Callum didnât take advantage of me. Itâs not what you think!â She feared that if Stephen continued to beat Callum up, Callum would really end up in the hospital.
âHe didnât take advantage of you?â Stephenâs actions stopped at once, and he turned to glare at Lillian.
âSo, you were a willing party?â
âUm⦠Not reallyâ¦â Lillian replied awkwardly. âItâs just⦠That night, I⦠I drank too much andâ¦
accidentally phoned Callum⦠and then somehow I pinned him down andâ¦
It was practically killing Lillian to say these words. In a way, it felt like when she skipped classes in elementary school, got reprimanded by the teacher, and had to go home to face her parents for self-
reflection.
Halfway through her explanation, Lillian looked at Stephen and Abigail with chagrin. âWell⦠Do I have to go into further details?â
âEnough, enough. Shut upâ¦â Stephen hurriedly stopped Lillian. He and Abigail also looked mortified at present, realizing that after all the fuss, it was Lillian who had forced herself onto Callum all along! Now, it seemed like Callum was the one who was taken advantage of.
At this moment, Callum was probably the least embarrassed person in the house.
âHow⦠How could you do such a thing? Even if you were drunk, you canât do that!â Stephen could only flare up at Lillian awkwardly now, Lillian nodded and admitted her mistake humbly. âI wonât do it again next time. I promise to turn over a new leaf.â
âNext time? Youâre still thinking about a next time?â Stephen rolled his eyes angrily. âSince youâre pregnant now, what exactly do you two plan to do with this child?â
After all, currently, the baby in Lillianâs womb was the most troublesome thing.
âIâll take responsibility,â Callum responded unhesitatingly.
