Chapter 927
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Jonathan followed them. He cast a glance at Connorâs hand that had just clasped Kaylieâs, then turned his thoughtful gaze toward Kaylie who was striding ahead.
Jonathan wondered, âWhat is Mrs. Smuckler afraid of? When she shook hands with me just now, her hand was trembling!â
Since Connor and Kaylie had already booked a hotel and preferred not to stay in the Youngblood residence, Jonathan and Rosalie sent them to the hotel to place their luggage. Afterward, Jonathan and Rosalie bought them dinner at a famous hotel in Strico.
The triplets went to the dinner that night and so did Karina and Felix.
Karina was there because of Zekiah. Zekiah was like a piece of gum that could not be removed from her. Except for the time when she was in school, he would follow her almost everywhere she went.
Such a sight was even more obvious especially after Zekiahâs identity was exposed.
After seeking advice from a psychologist, Rosalie came to understand that the child was experiencing emotional distress. In a way, his behavior resembled that of a creature that instinctively identifies the first moving object it sees as its mother.
As Karina was the only one who had really protected Zekiah, Zekiah would instinctively rely on Karina.
As for Felix, it was because Jennifer had insisted that they come together.
Connor looked at the triplets happily and gave them monetary gifts, while Kaylie produced three intricately knotted bracelets, each adorned with a gold cross pendant symbolizing life.
âThis is for your children. I hope they will be safe in the future,â Kaylie said to Rosalie.
Connor chimed in, âKaylie made these bracelets. It took her almost a month.â
Rosalie immediately noticed the intricate weaving of the three bracelets, which was far more complex than what was typically available in the market.
âThank you, Mrs. Smuckler.â Rosalie took the bracelets and helped her kids wear them.
Because there were only three bracelets, Kaylie prepared two monetary gifts and gave them to Karina and Felix.
During the meal, Jonathan asked casually, âYour ascent is somewhat different from the local accent in Lofbury, Mrs. Smuckler. I wonder where you came from.â
Kaylie stopped what she was doing and said, âI⦠came from a small place, but I moved to Lofbury a long time ago.â
âReally?â Jonathan smiled faintly. âI wonder what small place. Maybe Iâve been there before.â
Crash!
The glass in Kaylieâs hand suddenly slipped down from her hand, and the beverage spilled on the table. Connor and Rosalie hurriedly helped wipe the table with tissues.
Connor asked Kaylie, âAre you alright?â
âIâm just⦠a little nervous.â Kaylie took a deep breath. âAfter all, we met Mr. Youngblood, the head of the Youngblood family as soon as we arrived in Strico. Iâve only seen him in the news.â
Jonathan said, âMrs. Smuckler, you hold as much significance to me as you do to Rosie. You donât need to be nervous or think of me as the head of the Youngblood family. I am just Rosieâs husband.
You can call me Jonathan.â
Kaylie looked at Jonathan who was smiling gently, her eyes misty.
âJon⦠Jonathanâ¦â Kaylie said softly after a long while.
Jonathan flashed a smile in return.
The atmosphere at the scene became harmonious again. After the meal, Jonathan said to Rosalie on the way back, âMrs. Smuckler seems to be afraid of me.â
âI guess she was just nervous. Didnât she say so because it was the first time she had seen someone she had only seen in the news?â Rosalie said. âMrs. Smuckler is just a housewife. Mr. Smuckler worries about 09:471 her leg, so he never lets her go out to work. And because of that, she doesnât get to meet many people, so itâs not weird that she was nervous around you. There are many rumors about thatâ¦â
you âRumor? What rumor?â Jonathan raised his eyebrows and looked at Rosalie with interest.
Rosalie felt awkward. The rumors about him were definitely not good. It was said that he was cruel and cold-blooded. In Strico, if anyone offended him, there would be no good ending.
âHmm? What kind of rumor could make Mrs. Smuckler so nervous?â Jonathan continued.
âWell, youâre cold-blooded and merciless. If anyone tries to mess with you in Strico, it probably wonât end up well for themâ¦â Rosalie said in a soft voice.
Jonathan held Rosalieâs hand and said, âThen you can tell Mrs. Smuckler to rest assured. Even if she really messes with me one day, I wonât hurt her for your sake.â
He gently stroked her fingers and asked, âDo your fingers still hurt these days?â
âThey donât hurt anymore. Tomorrow when I go to Mr. Sabatiniâs for a reexamination, I will take Mrs.
Smuckler to have her leg examined,â Rosalie said.
âDo you want me to accompany you?â Jonathan asked.
âNah, Iâll just take Mrs. Smuckler there myself. If you come with us, sheâll probably get nervous again,â
she joked.
He smiled and didnât continue to talk about this topic anymore. He lowered his head and fell into deep thought.
Jonathan wondered, âWas Mrs. Smuckler really just nervous? But why do I sense a fear of me in her?
However, it seems to be different from ordinary fear. After all, some too many people are afraid of me.
But within Mrs. Smucklerâs fear, there appears to be a hint of anticipation. Is this merely a figment of my imagination? Or could there be more to this than meets the eye?â
The next day, Rosalie took Connor and Kaylie to Levi so that Levi could examine Kaylieâs leg.
After examining Kaylieâs leg, Levi said directly, âYour leg has always been bad. Itâs not your knee. You damaged your hamstring and although it has healed, itâs not quite as good as it used to be. The older you are, the more problems there will be. And duc to your joint injury, your leg has remained uncured all this while.â
Connor and Kaylie had come over without much hope.
However, at that moment, when Levi said so, something flickered in their eyes.
Connor asked excitedly, âThen can it be cured?â
âI could try operating on it. The operation will be much simpler than the one I did on Rosalie,â Levi said.
