Chapter 940
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Rosalieâs exposed skin had become cold, prompting Jonathan to say, âYou should rest for a while. Iâll wake you up when we get home.â
âYou are not going to disappear on me again, are you?â Rosalie inquired worriedly. It was entirely by chance that she had discovered Jonathan this time.
âI wonât, so get some sleep now,â Jonathan assured Rosalie.
His reassurance put her at ease. After a night of turmoil, she was indeed exhausted. Rosalie slowly closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Jonathan, on the other hand, watched her sleep deeply, his mind filled with thought.
The car slowly made its way back to the Youngblood residence.
He did not wake her up when they got back. Instead, he carried her to their bedroom and gently placed her on the bed.
âRosalie, I canât forgive that woman, so please do not plead on her behalf anymore,â he said softly, his voice a mixture of caution and entreaty.
When Lillian saw Rosalie, her face was filled with concern. âWhat is the matter? Has something happened?â
In Lillianâs opinion, Rosalie should be leading a trouble-free life since she was now the lady of the Youngblood family. Moreover, Jonathan loved her dearly, and their children had also been found.
After hesitating for a moment, Rosalie said, âItâs a complicated situation.â
âCanât Jonathan help you resolve it?â Lillian asked.
âSomeone did me a great favor, but that person offended Jon. Jon refuses to let that person go because they once did terrible things to him. I am caught between a rock and a hard place now, not knowing whether to plead for that person or not.â Rosalie smiled bitterly.
When Lillian heard that, she frowned. âIt appears you are in a difficult situation, a classic case of conflicting loyalties.â
âWhat about you? How are things going with you?â Rosalie changed the subject, choosing not to dwell on her own troubles.
âI am doing well, eating and sleeping well every day. Iâm not experiencing morning sickness as much now, maybe because my baby is being considerate of me.â Lillian smiled and lightly rubbed her belly. âWhat about Callum? Are you really no longer in contact with him? Has he truly abandoned you and this child, not even asking how you are?â Rosalie inquired.
Lillian suddenly felt a pang of guilt. âWell, he probably has no idea I have decided to keep this child.â
âWhat do you mean?â Rosalie was surprised.
âHe probably thought the baby was no longer in this world because I was about to have an abortion right in front of him at that time,â Lillian explained.
âSo youâre saying Callum believed you had an abortion, but in reality, you didnât?â Rosalie asked nervously.
âYes. Thatâs rightâ¦â Lillian hesitated to respond.
âBut have you considered that if, one day, Callum finds out about the childâs existence and insists on having custody of the child?â Rosalie questioned.
Hearing that, Lillian exclaimed, âThe child is mine, and I will not let anyone separate us!â
Rosalie continued, âBut he can take legal action and seek custody. Back then, Warren also sued to obtain custody of Aiden from Amelia.â
Lillianâs face turned pale, and she put down her dessert. âW-Will he be able to claim the childâs custody?â
âIf he genuinely intends to and hires the best lawyers, when the child turns two, thereâs a fifty-fifty chance he could win custody,â Rosalie explained.
Lillian bit her lip tightly, her hands clenched.
Rosalie sighed. âLillian, if it comes to that point, Iâll definitely help you. But how did you and Callum get to this point? Didnât you want to start anew with him?â
âThere is no chance of starting over. Perhaps he never really loved me. I assumed he and Madeline had broken up because he claimed he never loved her from the start and only married her due to circumstances. However, I found out it was all a facade,â Lillian said bitterly.
Rosalie felt puzzled. âWhat do you mean?â
âOne day, I saw Madeline enter his mansion, and she did not leave until the next morning. The security guard at Callumâs mansion confirmed that she had entered the mansion multiple times, spending the night each time and leaving the next day,â Lillian explained.
Rosalie was in shock but chose not to bring up the matter again.
Rosalie thought for a moment and asked, âIs it possible that there was a misunderstanding?â
âWhat possible misunderstanding could there be? Is there any reason for Callum to make Madeline spend the night at his mansion? Even if we consider the worst-case scenario, if he did it for the sake of his business, I cannot accept it. Perhaps we are simply too dissimilar. He was never truly in love with me. I was just a woman who matched his preferences among those he met, or perhaps...â Lillian's voice grew even more hoarse. âMaybe he did it out of regret? Because he ended his relationship with me for the sake of his career at the time. I did not truly belong to him. That is why he desired reconciliation, and that is all there is to it. He could never give me the kind of love I desired.â
Listening to her words, Rosalie felt like something was not quite right.
Even though Callum appeared cold when arranging for Madeline to stay overnight in his mansion made no sense.
There was no need for such a complicated breakup if he still cared about Madeline. He had already accomplished his goal of freeing himself from the Tall familyâs control and acquiring their assets. The Tall family was essentially at his mercy.
Furthermore, it appeared that White Maple Group had announced the acquisition of a portion of the Tall familyâs assets just two days after Lillian went to find Callum. What was odd was that the price offered was really decent, given the Tall familyâs current situation. It could even be said that the selling price was surprisingly high.
Why would Callum do something like that? Did he have something against Madeline, or were there other reasons? Rosalie mused.
âWhat are you thinking, Rosalie?â Lillian's voice brought Rosalie back to her senses.
âI was thinking there might be something wrong with Madeline,â Rosalie explained.
âIt doesnât matter if thereâs something wrong with her or not. Now I just want to focus on having a healthy child and raising it. If Callum truly wants custody of this child, I will not back down,â Lillian replied.
