Chapter 966
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
A man in a police uniform continued pointing his sniper rifle at Madeline. He was unmistakably on guard, ready to shoot another bullet if the last was not fatal.
However, it seemed the chances of Madeline surviving were low. Rosalie stared at Madeline, twitching on the ground. Then, she noticed a device rolling out of Madelineâs pocket, and Rosalieâs expression changed slightly.
The device resembled a remote control with a countdown. Now, it was counting down from 8, 7, 6â¦
It was a timer.
âWas Madeline fiddling with this timer in her pocket?
What exactly is this device for?â Rosalie suddenly had a bad feeling, but Madeline could no longer speak by then. After her body convulsed for a while, she stopped moving, as if announcing the end of her life. Then, Jonathan rushed forward and grabbed Rosalieâs arm. âLetâs go! Iâll take you to the hospital.â As he said that, he bent down to pick her up.
âJon, this timer-â An explosion suddenly went off before Rosalie could finish her words, and the whole building began to shake.
It was a bomb.
Rosalie froze and finally understood what the timer in Madelineâs pocket was used for. It was a device to detonate the bomb.
âEveryone, get out of here!â Jonathan ordered.
Those who could work for Jonathan were naturally skillful. Within a short time, they had already started looking for the best escape route.
The helicopters hovering in the sky lowered the rope ladders. These helicopters could carry some people away.
The explosion continued, and some parts of the abandoned building began to crack. It could collapse at any time.
Jonathan held Rosalie and tried to hold their ground.
âLillian! Hurry and get Lillian on the helicopter!â Rosalie shouted. Her friend was pregnant, and the safest way to leave was via helicopter.
âDonât worry! Someone will take Lillian to the helicopter,â Jonathan assured.
As he expected, immediately after he spoke, two people had already arrived at Lillianâs side and led her to climb the rope ladder put down by the helicopter.
Seeing her friend holding the rope ladder and slowly climbing up, Rosalie finally calmed down a little.
âWe should go, too.â As Jonathan spoke, he quickly tore off her sleeve and used it to press on the wound on her neck first, fearing that she would bleed more. âDonât worry about anything else right now.
You only have to grab onto the rope ladder and climb slowly until you reach the top, got it?â
He instructed while carrying her toward the rope ladder nearest to them.
Rosalie leaned against Jonathanâs chest. He was not wearing a top then, and the freezing rooftop wind made his chest feel icy.
However, she felt particularly at ease because he was there. It felt like she did not need to worry at all with him here.
Jon, you saved me again,â Rosalie murmured. âJust now, if Madeline didnât get distracted, do youâ¦
You didnât really plan on stripping naked, did you?â
Even though her neck would hurt every time she spoke, she still could not help but ask him the question.
His dark eyes stared at her. âWhat if I did plan to do that? If she werenât distracted, Iâd continue stripping. If she keeps holding you hostage until the end, and I canât find an opportunity to save you, even if she wants me to crawl like a dog, Iâd do it.â
Rosalieâs eyes were full of shock as she stared at Jonathan, thinking, âThis prideful man would do so 10:33 much for me?â
âWhy? Donât you believe me that Iâd go that far?â Jonathan asked.
She shook her head with difficulty. âN-Noâ¦â
âIt doesnât matter whether you believe me or not. Iâm willing to throw everything away to save you. So, what about you? If Iâm in danger one day, will you also come to save me, no matter what?â He asked as if directing the question to himself rather than her.
He did not intend to wait for her answer at all. He carried her toward the rope ladder and carefully put her on the ground where many cracks had been formed. Then, he let her stabilize herself before pulling the ladder over.
Just then, another loud explosion sounded.
The explosion also shook Rosalie and Jonathan. The cracks on the rooftop under their feet were getting larger, and the whole building was on the verge of collapse.
With another explosion, the ground under Rosalieâs feet suddenly caved in, and her body immediately fell. Yet, a hand firmly grabbed ahold of her and stopped her from falling.
âItâs Jon! He caught me!â Rosalie exclaimed inwardly.
Rosalie struggled to raise her head and only saw Jonathan holding her hand tightly. His other hand clutched onto the rope ladder, trying his best to pull her up.
However, the cracks on the rooftop he stood on continued crumbling. It would collapse at any time. The explosion kept on going off, and more areas of the rooftop fell.
He could not find a stable focus point on this crumbling rooftop. It was impossible to pull her up with one hand.
Rosalie knew this very well unless he grabbed her with both hands.
Nevertheless, he had to grab onto the rope ladder with his other hand. Once he let go, the two of them.
would fall.
In an instant, various memories flashed across Rosalieâs mind, and she made a decision. âJon, remember to take care of Guille, Jen, and Zeki. Zeki⦠Youâll need to be more patient with him. Also, you can tell them Iâve gone to a far place and can only come home in a long time. When they grow up, you can tell them the truth.â
Rosalie said with difficulty. Crimson blood had soaked the tie around her neck, dripping along the cloth strip.
Jonathanâs face suddenly turned pale. He scolded, âDonât talk anymore, Rosalie! I want you to stop talking again! Iâll get you out of here!â
âHer words sounded like a final message! She canât leave me!â These were the only thoughts filling Jonathanâs head.
