Chapter 976
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Lillian rushed to Callum and said through a clogged nose, âI knew that you agreed to Madelineâs request and broke up with me back then because you wanted to save me. Five years later, you once again protected me from Madeline. Moreover, at that time, you had a curse on your body. Because of the curse, you felt immense pain whenever you touched me. To rid yourself of the curse, you allowed Madeline into your mansionâ¦â
However, Callum remained indifferent, his expression unchanged, as he listened. It appeared that her distress, her tears, and her remorse held no significance for him.
âIs that so? So you are aware.â At last, her heartfelt confession received only a brief response from him. Lillian bit her lips. âBack then, I went to your mansion to find you. I wanted to say that we should give it another try. But when I saw Madeline leaving your mansion, I thought you and her⦠I misunderstood. I didnât know it was due to curse.â
âYes, you misunderstood,â Callum murmured. âYouâre so quick to misunderstand me. It implies that you donât trust me at all, doesnât it?â
Lillian choked.
Callumâs expression became even more scathing. âHow can you claim you love me if itâs like this?â
After a pause, Callum continued. âSo you knew that you had misunderstood me, yet youâve come to see me again? But, Lillian, you must understand that I wonât remain the same and love you as naively as I did before just because youâve returned. My love for you had entirely vanished from the moment you thought of terminating your pregnancy at the hospital.â
Lillian burst into tears. âI⦠I didnât terminate the pregnancy. Callum. I didnât⦠Our baby is still inside me⦠Iâve been eating well and resting, all for the sake of our baby⦠so our child can grow healthilyâ¦â
She pulled his hand and put it on her abdomen as she spoke.
At four months into her pregnancy, her lower abdomen didnât show a noticeable bulge. Only a slight swell could be felt when a hand was pressed against it.
Callumâs hand gently touched Lillianâs stomach, and moments ticked by. When her tears trickled down her cheeks and fell onto his wrist, he abruptly withdrew his hand as if it had been scorched.
âEnough, Lillian. So what if you didnât terminate the pregnancy?â He suddenly stood up and said, âFrom the very beginning, it was never the baby that I cared about.â
She was all he cared about!
At that time, he was utterly devastated when she wanted to terminate the pregnancy to sever all ties with him. It was then that he realized she was willing to sacrifice a life just to break the connection between them.
It was only at that moment that he realized that her words, which he had taken to heart, had been nothing more than a jest.
He recalled that at the time, she had said to him, âCallum, if we were to have a child, I would want to bring it into the world because it would be our child and my treasure.â
Yet it turned out that she was willing to abandon this treasure at any moment. The worst was she might not want it at all!
âI know you didnât terminate the pregnancy, but so what? Now you came to me and suddenly said that loved me. What is it that you hope for? Do you want me to be with you and provide the child with a complete family? Am I just a father, necessary for the child, to you now?â Callum said.
you âNo, I⦠I want to be with you, but not just for the child!â Lillian interjected hastily. âItâs because I love you, and I donât want to lose you like this. Iâ¦â
âLillian, you and I have already missed our chance,â Callum said coldly as he withdrew his hand.
In an instant, Lillian felt her hand go empty, and the warmth from his touch on her abdomen was abruptly gone.
âDid we truly miss the chance to be together?â she thought bitterly.
08:27 âWell, if this is all you want to say after repeatedly requesting to meet me, you neednât come to me personally in the future. If thereâs anything else, you can contact my secretary,â Callum stated.
âContact your secretary?â Lillian was stunned momentarily.
âHow much child support payment are you asking, or how much money do you want? You can communicate this to my secretary, and as long as the sum is reasonable, there wonât be any issues. As for the child in your belly, itâs your decision whether to bring it into the world or terminate the pregnancy.â Callumâs voice was void of emotions.
âI⦠I am not here for moneyâ¦â Lillian murmured.
âDoes it matter whether you are or not? In any caseâ¦â
Before Callum could finish his words, Lillian suddenly strode forward, wrapped her hands around his neck, stood on tiptoe, and kissed him straightaway.
The sudden kiss caught Callum off guard, and he instantly tensed up. Subconsciously, he wanted to push her away, but when his hand made contact with her, it suddenly froze.
Now she was not her usual self, but a pregnant woman. Even a gentle push might potentially harm her and the baby in her womb.
Callum pursed his thin lips, and his body stiffened.
âDonât be swayed by her!â Callum repeated to himself in his heart.
Lillian felt as though she was pouring all her longing and regret over these days into this kiss. The kiss was eager and passionate.
Yet his lips remained closed and didnât part as if he were unwilling to forgive her and reciprocate her advances.
She didnât want to lose him like this.
The tears in Lillianâs eyes gushed out again, and her heart kept sinking. She thought he would still have some feelings for her. She thought she had hope, but nowâ¦
âHave we really missed our chances forever as he said?â she thought.
At that instant, her tears trickled down her cheek and nose before landing on their lips.
