Chapter 990
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
The banquet continued. As Ysabel watched her son, whose cheeks were flushed slightly, walk toward the lounge on the second floor, a smile crept onto her face. Everything was unfolding as she had hoped. The daughter of the Turner family had been waiting in the lounge for some time. After that night, the union between the White family and the Turner family would be sealed. After that, Lillian would no longer be involved with Callum.
Ysabel engaged in small talk with the guests while drinking. At the same time, she was calculating the time in her mind.
However, a loud noise suddenly erupted from the second floor, followed by a swift silence.
The guests exchanged puzzled glances. They did not know what had just happened.
Ysabel forced a smile and then made her way to the second floor. She wanted to investigate the situation. To her surprise, she found two of Callumâs subordinates standing right in front of the lounge where Veronica was supposed to be. The subordinates whom Ysabel had arranged to guard the room had disappeared. âWhy are youâ¦â Ysabel asked in confusion.
âMr. White instructed us to allow Ms. Turner and your subordinates to rest in this lounge. Otherwise, theyâd be exhausted,â one of the men replied.
âWhat?â Ysabel was stunned upon hearing that. She immediately stepped forward to open the door.
When the door opened, Ysabel saw Veronica, fully dressed and lying unconscious on the couch.
Moreover, her two subordinates were tied up, lying on the floor.
Meanwhile, her son was nowhere to be seen. Callum was obviously not in the lounge.
âWhereâs Callum?â she asked sternly.
Callumâs subordinate answered, âMr. White said heâll go home first. He also asked you to stop doing these meaningless things in the future.â
Upon hearing those words, Ysabel gritted her teeth. She knew Callum had seen through everything.
It seemed like she would have to appease the Turner family later. Meanwhile, Callum sat in the carâs back seat and smiled wryly. He had not expected his own mother to make a move against him. Callum had always been guarded against outsiders but did not anticipate his mother would do such a thing.
That was why he became a victim of her dirty tricks.
Callum should have been well aware of Ysabelâs character. The incident simply made him realize the truth.
08:28 D As the car pulled up to the White residence, Callum entered the house while catching his breath. He instructed the butler, Dave, âWithout my permission, no one is allowed into the house.â
Dave was taken aback. âButâ¦â
Nevertheless, Callum had already entered the house before Dave could finish speaking. He slammed the door shut, leaving the latter outside. âMs. Quinn is still inside,â Dave added. However, his words were now muffled from the outside.
When Callum entered the living room, he suddenly stopped in his tracks. The room was bathed in soft lighting while Lillian sat on the couch. In front of her was a coffee table. There was an exquisite cake placed on top. There were even candles displaying his age.
She wore a white dress with her hair tied loosely. The light shined on her face and body, accentuating her beauty and grace. Right then, Lillian spotted Callum entering the living room. Her face instantly lit up as she flashed a radiant smile at him.
âCallum, youâre back! Wait, let me light the candles first,â said Lillian. She wanted to use a lighter to ignite the candles.
Callum, however, wanted to go upstairs. âNo need for that.â
Nevertheless, Lillian stepped forward. She noticed the strange flush on Callumâs face and asked, âWhatâs the matter? Are you feeling unwell?â As she spoke, she lifted her hand, intending to touch his forehead.
Yet, Callum swiftly pushed Lillianâs hand away. âIgnore me. Donât come to my room again tonight!â
For the past two days, she had been going into his room at night with the pregnancy pillow. If Lillian were to enter Callumâs room again, he feared he wouldâ¦
âWhatâs the matter with you? Did you drink too much at the banquet? Or is it something else?â Lillian suddenly grasped his arm. She did not want Callum to leave without explaining anything.
Moreover, it was his birthday. She had gone to great lengths to get the cake, and they hadnât even had a bite yet.
Callumâs body stiffened.
âDonât touch meâ¦â he warned as his expression darkened.
But the more Callum resisted, the more worried Lillian was. âWhat on earth is wrong? Iâll go to the hospital with you if you feel unwell. Otherwise, I can call your family doctor.â
âNo!â he yelled.
âButâ¦â
âNo! I said no!â Callum snapped. Suddenly, he grabbed her jaw and kissed her 08.28 hard.
âCallum⦠Callum⦠Whatâs wrong with you?â Lillian shouted. She subconsciously tried to break free from his grasp, fearing that his intense kisses might harm the baby in her belly.
However, it seemed like Callum could not hear her cries.
Lillian was so anxious that she burst into tears. âStop it, Callum. No⦠Iâm scaredâ¦â
Tears streamed down her face, sliding along her jaw and dripping onto her neck, even finding its way into her lips.
The hot, salty tears instantly awakened Callum from that impulse.
In a raspy voice, he struggled to force the words out of his mouth. âDonât⦠come near me. At leastâ¦
not tonight!â
After saying that, it was as if he used all his strength to push her away and then went upstairs alone.
Lillian stood rooted to her spot in a daze. She stared at the figure that had vanished within a second.
After a while, Lillian finally returned to her senses.
Her body was still trembling instinctively. The last look Callum gave her seemed like he had exerted every effort to avoid hurting her.
âWhatâs wrong with Callum? Why is he acting this way?â Lillian questioned inwardly as a faint sense of suspicion arose.
Lillian took a deep breath before quickly ascending the stairs. Then she arrived at the entrance to his bedroom.
His bedroom had already been locked from the inside. Lillian reckoned it was because he did not want her to enter.
