Chapter 994
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Tentatively, she asked, âUm⦠do you still love me deep down? But you donât want to straightforwardly forgive me, so youâre hoping that in a month, Iâll keep pestering you?â
Callum stared at Lillian and thought, âDoes she have to be so direct?â
Though, he had to admit, it was exactly as she described.
âIs that it?â she inquired further.
He turned away, feeling uncomfortable under her intense gaze.
âIs it or not?â she pressed on, circling to his front and continuing to stare at him. Her hands playfully tugged at his arm. âI didnât misunderstand, did I?â
He stared at her, thinking that this woman had an uncanny ability to push him into corners.
âYes,â he gruffly replied, then went back to his desk to look at the pile of documents.
Lillian was overjoyed that he had admitted it. She had been right; he did still have feelings for her. He had just been hurt deeply by her in the past.
Lillian approached Callumâs desk. âSo, Callum, when do you plan to forgive me? In two months? Three months? Or maybe half a year? If itâs half a year, our child will be born by then. Isnât that too long?
Callum, could you at least give me an approximate time so I can prepare mentally? Once you forgive me, what do you think about having a forgiveness banquet? It could be a celebration and a reminder for us not to have misunderstandings in the future.â
She chatted away, her words flowing freely.
Callum was momentarily speechless as he thought, âA forgiveness banquet? Where did she come up with this? And bargaining over the time for forgiveness!â
1 âBy the way, Callum, I love you so much. I really do.â Lillian, exclaimed with wide-open eyes, gazing at Callum passionately as she confessed her feelings.
Callumâs face turned red suddenly.
âHey, Callum, your face seems to be getting a bit redâ Lillian blinked and reached up to touch his cheek.
He should have pulled her hand down, but with her acting this way, he found it hard to focus on his work.
âYour ears are red too!â she exclaimed as if discovering a new world. Her hands started reaching toward his ears.
At that moment, Callum felt a rush of warmth to his face that made his ears turn red.
âYouâ¦â He stared at her. âStop messing around.â His words carried a trace of indulgence he couldnât quite hide.
âIâm not messing around; Iâm just happy,â Lillian said, her lips curving into a smile. âCallum, thank you for forgiving me.
Î Callum pursed his lips and lied, âI havenât forgiven you yet.â
âBut you will forgive me sooner or later, right? Callum, I want to spend every day with you in the future.â
Lillian rested her cheek on her hand, lost in thoughts of a beautiful future.
Callum was briefly taken aback. After a moment, he said, âAsk your parents if theyâre free tonight. They came all this way, and I havenât even invited them to dinner yet.â
Lillian was delighted and quickly responded on behalf of her parents, âSure, theyâre free. Iâll call them!â
She started making the call to her parents.
Callumâs lips curved into a smile as he watched Lillian. The heavy feeling that had been weighing on his chest seemed to be gradually dissipating.
Perhaps, for him, her actions on the street that day, when she cried so bitterly to recover the deleted photos, were enough to grant her forgiveness.
He just had been afraid of losing her again, fearing that she was with him only because of the child and that she didnât love him that much.
That was why he didnât forgive her easily, hoping that she would continue to pester him and love him more.
In the evening, Callum reserved a private room at an old-established restaurant in Jacaster and invited Lillianâs parents to dine with them.
Stephen and Abigail relaxed when they saw how happy Lillian seemed.
All the misunderstandings they had about Callum had been cleared up, thanks to Lillianâs explanation.
Stephen raised his glass and said, âCallum, we misunderstood you at the beginning. You did a lot for Lillian, and she wouldnât have survived without you.â
Callumâs eyes darkened for a moment; the past was a pain he could never forget.
âIf it werenât for me, she wouldnât have ended up in this situation,â he said quietly.
âBut itâs all in the past now,â Abigail chimed in. âWe are so happy for the both of you. We donât have any other hope but for Lillian to give birth safely, and for you to reconcile.â
âWe will, we definitely will!â Lillian said, cutting in before Callum could respond. She hadnât told her parents that she was still under probation.
Dinner was a pleasant affair.
Callum watched as the Quinn family chatted casually. They ate and drank with smiles on their faces.
This atmosphere seemed to be infecting him.
It was an experience he had never had in the White family, whether he was having a meal with his mother or other members of the White family.
It always felt cold and distant.
Perhaps he was the one who truly yearned for her.
After finishing the meal, Callum had the driver give the Quinn family a ride home. However, Lillian firmly held onto Callumâs arm and said to her parents, âMom, Dad, you should return to the inn. I⦠um, want to stay a few more days at Callumâs place.â
While saying this, she looked up at him with an eager expression. âIs it okay?â
Callum was at a loss for words. She had acted without prior consultation, so what could he say now?
âLet her stay at my place for a few days. Iâll take good care of her,â he said to Stephen and Abigail.
Stephen and Abigail expressed their gratitude. They got into the White familyâs car to head back to the hotel.
The car slowly drove toward the hotel where they were staying. Meanwhile, Lillian got into Callumâs car.
âI thought your face had already healed. You should have gone back to the inn with your parents,â he commented.
âjust thought we could spend more time getting to know each other! Weâve been apart for five years, and even though I love you, and you still love me, the misunderstandings from before have affected our relationship. Donât you think we need more time to be together?â
Well, Callum realized that he didnât mind spending more time with her. In fact, he welcomed it.
That night, Lillian appeared in Callumâs room, hugging her pregnancy pillow.
