Chapter 279 Accusation
Lilaâs POV
âEnzo, can you take her back to her dorm room?â Headmaster Prescott asked as we watched the
police car take Scott away.
I hadnât realized I was standing frozen until Enzo took a gentle hold of my arm and pulled me along with
him. My legs, at first, didnât want to move. But then after the second gentle tug, they finally cooperated
and went with him toward the dorms.
âEnzoâ¦â I whispered h oa rsely, grabbing his arm with my other hand. I couldnât even look at him; I was
a complete zombie with my eyes filled with tears,
âI knowâ¦â he whispered in return. âWe will figure this out.â
I almost paused, but instead, I managed to look up at him. He looked concerned, but there was also a
stern determination on his face.
âYou believe me.â
It wasnât a question, though he nodded once without hesitation.
âOf course, I do,â he answered. âI will always believe you.â
âYou donât think he killed Merida?â
âI donât think he has it in him,â Enzo told me. âI think I will always trust your gut intuition as well and if
youâre sure he didnât kill him, then I donât think he did.â
I felt like breathing out a breath of fresh air. My mate believed me. I wanted to throw myself into his
arms and hug him tightly, but we were still out in the open and we couldnât do that right here.
âWhere are we going?â I asked, noticing that we were heading in the direction of the dorms.
âIâm taking you back to the dorm for tonight,â he said and though his voice sounded strained, his
shoulders were squared. âI think you should rest in your bed and see your roommates. Also, I was
thinking youâd want to ask around and do a little digging yourself in the dorms.â
I found myself beaming at him.
âI would,â I told him. âThank you.â
He looked down at me and smiled at me.
When we got into the dormitory, Eileen Carter stood in the living quarters with Alexander, and they
were talking intensely while glancing out the window at the bright sirens. Both their eyes widened when
they saw me walking into the room.
âLila?â Eilleen gasped. âI thought you were upstairs. What are you doing?â
âShe came running toward the police cars when she saw who was being arrested,â Enzo explained,
shaking his head as if he was so disappointed in me. But I knew the truth.

âHow did you get past us? Weâve been in here all night,â Eileen said, narrowing her eyes at me and
folding. her arms across her chest.
âThe window,â I lied. âI snuck out the window.â
She pressed her lips firmly together and shook her head at me.
âWe will discuss this tomorrow, Lila. Get back to your dorm right now.â
âYes, mam,â I said, glancing at Enzo one last time.
He had to stifle a small smile; I could tell. I turned away and rushed toward the stairway.
âThank you for bringing her back, Professor. Iâm sorry for the trouble.â
âWe really should look into window security,â I heard Enzo saying.
I went upstairs and toward my dorm room. My heart was heavy as I thought about Scott; I hated that he
was getting in trouble again.
I knew exactly who was to blame for this; again.
Before I could stop myself, I knocked on Sarahâs door. Within a few minutes, the door was opening,
and Kay stood before me with wide and worried eyes.
âLila-â
âWhere is she?â I said, stepping into the room and pushing Kay aside.
I hadnât meant to push her, but she stumbled slightly and moved out of my way quickly as I rushed into.
the dorm room. Sarah was curled up on the couch and it seemed she was watching a movie when I
entered. She looked up at me with furrowed brows and her lips were pressed together in a line.
âUm⦠rude,â she muttered. âHow dare you barge in here when we were watching a movie.â
âCut the act, Sarah,â I said through my teeth. âI know you did something to him, and you need to
reverse it.â
âDid something to who?â She asked, narrowing her eyes at me.
âLila, Sarah has been here all night-â
âI donât believe that for a second,â I said, and I could feel my emotions getting the best of me. But I
didnât care; I needed answers. I needed to clear Scottâs name.
âWho are you even talking about?â Sarah asked, standing to her feet and folding her arms across her
busty chest. âI havenât spoken to anyone since yesterday.â
âYou did something to Scott,â I said, shaking my head at her. âYou did something to him and now heâs
going to prison over something you did!!â
Sarahâs eyes grew large.
âWhat the f uck are you talking about?â Sarah asked. She genuinely seemed confused, which was

me off a bit but I knew what Sarah was capable of. I wasnât going to let her get into my head like she
does. everyone else. âScottâs going to prison?â
âLila, what happened?â Kay asked, stepping toward me. âWe heard sirens, but we didnât know it had
anything to do with Scott.â
âDid she get into your head too?â I asked, turning to Kay. âShe has a habit of doing that.â
âOne thing about fairies is we canât be manipulated like normal beings,â she said, a concerned frown.
decorating her lips. âCan you at least explain why Scott is going to prison?â
âIâd like to know the answer to that question too,â Sarah said, her brows knitting together. âWhat the hell
happened?â
âLike you donât already know,â I said through my teeth, glaring at her before turning back to Kay. My
expression softened and tears spilled from my eyes. âHe confessed to murdering Merida,â I said in a
low and defeated tone.
They both gasped loudly.
âWhat?!â Kay asked, her eyes wide with alarm.
âHe confessed to murdering someone?â Sarah asked, equally shocked. My gut was telling me
something was seriously off with my accusation. âScott wouldnât murder anybody.â
âThatâs why you manipulated his mind into thinking he did,â I said to her pointedly.
The color of her face drained and she looked taken aback.
âThatâs not a fair accusation,â Kay said, shaking her head at me. âI was with her all night. Weâve both
been freaked out about this whole murder thing and kept our minds off the events by binge-watching
corny movies. We havenât left our dorm since yesterday.â
My heart fell into my stomach as I looked at Sarah; tears were in her eyes, and she wasnât looking at
me. She was looking out the window; the bright blue lights of the sirens were no longer shining through
their window, and I could no longer hear the faint sounds of the sirens either.
Scott and the officers were gone.
âYou didnât manipulate his mind into thinking he killed her?â I asked, staring at her with dismay.
She remained still for a moment and then she looked at me through her unshed tears and shook her
blonde head.
âNoâ¦.â she murmured. âI didnât. I wouldnât actually kill anyone, and I certainly wouldnât make anyone
take the fall for me like thatâ¦â
Her words fell short, and her breathing grew thick. She was about to have a panic attack.
Kay could sense that as well because she rushed toward Sarah and wrapped her arm around her,
helping her to her couch. D
Thatâs when I realized just how wrong I truly was. I took a step back, unable to cope with what I had
done and what I had accused her of

âYou didnât do thisâ¦â
It wasnât a question.
Sarah met my eyes and I saw the pure worry in them as she shook her head slowly.
âNo,â she said, her voice breaking slightly. âI did not do this.â
âIf you didnât do this then who did?â I finally asked the question thatâs been sitting between us. A
question that none of us had the answers to.
âI donât know,â she finally said, shaking her head. âI donât f ucking know.â
I didnât stay much longer; I left and went back to my dorm to find Becca curled up on the couch. She
looked as if she had been crying but she forced a bright smile when she saw me enter.
âI didnât think youâd be back tonight,â she said, wiping at her tear-stained face.
âScott confessed to murdering Merida,â I blurted, sitting down beside her; my entire body still felt so
numb. I couldnât believe what had happened. I was completely and utterly numb.
âWhat?!â She gasped. âHe killed her?â
âNo, Becca,â I said, shaking my head. âHe didnât kill her. He just said that he did.â
âWhy would he say that if he didnât kill her?â
âSomething was wrong with him,â I said, remembering the dark look he had in his eyes. âIt was like he
wasnât fully there.â
âI donât understandâ¦â
âHe was under some kind of mind manipulation,â I blurted. âThis time, it wasnât Sarah.â
âAre you saying someone else at this school has the ability to control minds?â
I didnât want to face that fact, but that was exactly what I was saying.
âYes,â I finally said after a pause. âAnd whoever has that ability is who killed Merida and forced Scott to
take the fall.â
