I woke up to light slicing through the gap in the curtains, and piercing through my closed eyelids.

I bury my head deeper into my pillow, trying to escape the sun's blinding morning rays, but to no avail. I crack open one eye to look at the time, 7 o'clock proudly presented to me by my digital alarm clock.

I sigh heavily with frustration and close my eyes again, pressing my back further into Kaden's chest. I allow his scent to envelope me, take comfort in the warmth escaping his body, allow my body to feel the rhythm of his steady breathing against the skin on my bare shoulder.

But I still can't fall asleep.

I turn around in his hold in order to escape the sun, knowing that with my eyes firmly away from it I'll finally be in the dark. Kaden's arms are wrapped tightly around my waist, and his nose buries in the crook of my neck the second I fit into his shoulder, his feet tangled around mine. His eyes have luckily been spared from the sun, so he continues to sleep undisturbed beside me.

With my head buried in my own shadow, nestled against my mate's chest, the sound of his steady heartbeat lulling my body into a sudden, comfortable sleep.

When I wake again I notice it's much later, and Kaden is still asleep. He must've been exhausted after the trip we made yesterday, as well as staying up well after I went to bed dealing with those 'issues' he failed to extend his knowledge on.

It hurts slightly that he's still keeping things from me, but I'm just putting all of my faith in the fact he was tired and he didn't want to speak about it and he'd have rather gone to bed and talked about it in the morning.

I know there is definitely no chance of me going back to sleep this time, so I just lie there and admire what's mine.

The morning light his enhanced his cheekbones, made his jaw stronger, his hair that little bit lighter. His long, dark eyelashes rest gently against his cheeks, his breathing coming out slow and steady across my face.

He looks so peaceful when he sleeps, I almost forget he's an alpha with a lot of power and influence. My nose is brushing against his, our proximity obvious by his scent clogging up my nostrils. I can see the minute freckles across his nose and cheekbones, the ones that go unnoticed if you're looking from a distance, and the small hairs coming out of his jaw because he hasn't shaved yet.

"You done staring at me, princess?" His deep voice rumbles, his voice thick and heavy with sleep. I just smile, leaning forwards and pressing a soft kiss to his lips. He responds to me slowly, applying gentle pressure as he begins to wake up. "If that's your new definition of staring at me, feel free to carry on."

I laugh at him before kissing him again, letting my fingers rest on the side of his face and in his hair. Kissing Kaden in the morning is my favourite type of kiss, because it's soft and slow and he's half asleep so he's not pushy or forceful.

I hear him hum in content, his arms tightening around my waist and pressing me against him. His eyelashes are tickling my cheeks because I'm slightly higher in the bed, but I don't mind.

"I'm going to take a shower." I say against his lips, feeling him sigh heavily, expelling a breath against my face. He reluctantly unwraps his arms and lets me wriggle out from his embrace, and I trot over to the bathroom.

I shoot a quick glance over my shoulder, which almost has me jumping straight back into bed. His hair is a wild mess which has fallen down in front of his eyes, and the sheets have bunched up around his waist. His toned upper body is revealed, the muscles in his back flexing and contracting as he moves his arms to get comfortable staring at me. He smiles lazily, his icy blue eyes becoming a translucent white as he moves into the light.

I force myself into the bathroom and I turn on the water for the shower, allowing the water to heat up and steam to develop before stripping off my vest and shorts and stepping under the warm jets.

My muscles quickly loosen, the knots and tenseness in my body flowing down the drain with the shower water. I massage my shampoo into my hair and wash my body before stepping out and wrapping a towel around my waist, leaving my hair to drip water down my back.

I'm combing through it with my fingers as I step into the bedroom again, Kaden out of bed and stood reading the book I've been struggling to finish amongst my hectic schedule. "Hey."

His body tenses at the sound of my voice, and he turns around slowly, fury and hurt radiating off him like nuclear aftermath, his wolf's obsidian eyes windows to his soul. In his hand, clutched so tightly within his grasp that it may rip, was the note he wrote to me on the first night I stayed here, the one I use as my bookmark. "What is this?"

His voice is uncharacteristically cold, at least when speaking to me. His behaviour is odd, his body shaking with anger as he waits for my answer.

"What are you talking about?" I ask, slowly walking over to him. He flinches away from me, and hurt starts to flood my veins like an addictive drug, and I feel close to tears.

He never moves away from me, he's the one that always finds ways to touch me. "Kaden I don't understand."

"Who fvcking wrote this!" He seethes, thrusting the paper at me before dragging his hands desperately through his hair. "Is this from someone before me, and you keep it as a keepsake!"

"You wrote this?" My voice comes out timid, as I snatch the piece of paper from his hand. Was he insane? This is the same note he left me the first night he got angry at me. "You left this in my room after we argued the first night I was here!"

"Why are you lying!" He roars, swiping everything off the top of the dressing table, sending mirrors and candles shattering across the floor. "I've given you everything! I've told you my feelings, I've given you figures, I've given you more than I ever even gave my parents, and you can't even be honest to me when I've been nothing but honest to you!"

"Listen to my heart beat!" I shout at him, my own pulse roaring in my ears like a tidal wave. I don't want him to break our house again, I know his anger gets the better of him, and I don't stop this now we'll be moving again, and I really don't want to move out of a house that finally feels like home. "Does my pulse sound like I'm lying to you?!"

I watch as he breathes heavily in silence, his eyes showing how much he's breaking into tiny little pieces. I watch as he listens to my heartbeat, and the look on his face confirms what I already knew. I'm not lying, when I thought that he wrote it, I was so sure that it was because of the flutter of my heart as I read it. "Lola, I didn't write this."

"Then who did?" I whisper, all of the fight gone from me. I cross my arms over my chest and hug, trying to put some warmth back into my barely covered body. Shivers break out across my arms at the fact a complete stranger managed to get in my room. "Kaden, they went through my stuff, they were in our room."

Kaden stands still again, his eyes darkening into pits darker than Tartarus, his jaw clenching tightly at he bites down tightly. Then his eyes flash red, and a guttural roar breaks out from deep within his chest and he sends his fist flying straight through the nearest wall, cinder and plasterboard exploding across the room.

And then he stalks out of the room in nothing but a pair of boxers, grabbing his jeans from over the back of the chair before he disappears, the sound of the front door slamming causing me to jump in fright.

And that's when I collapsed to the ground, my legs finally giving out underneath me.

I pulled on the most incognito outfit I could find in my wardrobe, pulling my hair into a messy bun before pulling up my hood over my hair and down past my eyes.

I don't want to be recognised by anyone in the pack, even though they can smell me. I don't want to have to talk to people, so if my hood is up and my sunglasses are on, the walk to Olivia's should be undisturbed, allowing me some time with the crazy jumble of thoughts swimming around inside my head.

I decided I needed to get out of the house after I called the plasterers in to fix the hole in our bedroom wall. I didn't want them asking me questions about what happened, so I figured I'd let them do there thing unsupervised.

I don't bother trying to conceal the tear tracks down my face, or put on any form of makeup for that matter, I'm only going to see Olivia, and she's not exactly going to broadcast to the entire pack that Kaden once again made me cry.

It wasn't because I was upset, although I was really hurt he didn't trust me, I'm just more frustrated at the fact he once again walked out when things didn't go as planned, leaving me to fend off the demons trying to invade our home.

Olivia's has already mind linked me telling me she's gone to the shop to stock up on everything with a sugar content greater than ten grams, and she's kicked Brett out of the house so we can have a girls day just nothing about our mates.

A birdie has told me (aka Olivia) that there is trouble in paradise with them as well. She didn't dive into details, but I could tell that it was upsetting her and she needed to talk about it, so I knew we were going to have a very long day, and I hadn't cried my last year just yet.

I knock quickly on her door, tapping my foot impatiently as I wait for her to come and let me in. Soon enough I hear her loud, elephant footsteps jumping down her stairs, and soon enough the door swings open and Olivia reveals herself.

Like me, she has opted to go without makeup, her hair pulled lazily into a messy bun. Without her signature, cherry red lipstick, the focal point of attention is her hazel coloured eyes that appear golden in the afternoon light. I can smell Brett's scent all over her large jumper, her hands lost in the long sleeves. It falls well past her knees, her body buried underneath all of the fabric.

"Don't you just look like the epitome of shît." I smirk, a laugh escaping my lips as I watch her roll her eyes when I walk past her into the house. "Luckily for you, you feel just as good as me so I can't laugh at you."

"You wouldn't laugh at me anyway with your face looking like that." She snorts, heading upstairs without waiting to see if I'm following. "I've already got the exorcist in the DVD player, so we'll watch that and then spill our feelings about our fvcked up love lives."

I kick my shoes off at the door before following her to the sitting room upstairs. Pillows and blankets have been bunched up on the floor to make seating spots on the carpet, whilst bowls of sweets, tubs of ice cream and packets of crisps lay in a giant heap in front of the TV.

"I'll be one second I just need to grab the coke from the fridge." Olivia says absentmindedly, clicking her fingers as she spins on her toes and marches from the room.

I shrug and throw myself on the floor, burying myself in various available blankets and piling pillows on top of my lap. I look like a giant pillow fort for one, and I nestle against a beanbag behind me.

After a few minutes and half a packet of m&ms later, Olivia still hasn't returned, I explode out of my pillow caste and head downstairs to where I can notice a centre of her scent.

Her back is to me when I walk into the room, but she's just stood there, no movement, her back rigid and tense. I notice the coke out on the counter, two glasses on the side next to it.

I can feel my eyebrows scrunch together in confusion, because I have no idea what she's doing. "Olivia?"

I walk around the island counter separating us and place a hand on her shoulder, flinching away at the cool feel of her clothes.

It was like touching ice.

The room seemed to darken suddenly, a strange mist swirling around my ankles like vipers, chilling my body to the very bone. Her head twisted to the side with a snap, her appearance making my breath catch in my throat, my stomach dropping and my feet moving quickly without having to think about it.

Her usually olive coloured skin had become grey and cracked like stone, her veins running black across her face. When her mouth opened, it was like staring into the vast abyss of space, and her fingernails were sharp like steel. But her eyes, her usually hazel coloured eyes were all black, a small ring of orange in the centre.

"It's beginning, little wolf." A voice escaped from her lips that wasn't hers at all. It was raspy and deep and reminded me of the voice that had been following me around since the rogue attack back at my old pack when I met Kaden. It was cold and cruel and sent heavy shivers crawling down my spine, freezing me feet and making me unable to move. "And whilst I require your wolf, I don't actually require you."

I watch with wide eyes as Olivia's hand pulls a long jagged knife from behind her, seemingly from thin air. It looks ceremonial, with the handle being made from crude, twisted tree roots, the thin branches wrapping around the gleaming blade, stopping short of the tip.

"Why have you decided that you don't need me now." I ask incredulously, my feet finally being able to move again as I stumble backwards. "You've been working so hard to catch me."

Olivia's head cocks to the side, her strange orange eyes staring straight through me and into my soul. "You have become too much hassle to apprehend. I might as well do things like this, from the safety of my home, because if you kill this body, you're only killing her."

Olivia's body lunges towards me, throwing me to the floor with so much force that the wind is knocked out of me and I cannot breathe. She's aiming the knife down towards my heart, but I quickly throw my arms up to try and stop her. She's stronger than I ever imagined, and even whilst I thrash around trying to knock her off, she's too strong, something I never thought I'd say.

"Kaden!" I scream as loud as my lungs will allow, the blade edging closer to my chest as my muscles begin to tire, and tears form in the corner of my eyes. "Kaden!"

"He can't hear you." Olivia laughs cruelly, forcing the blade closer to my chest. "And even if he could he'll be too late."

And then the knife breaks the skin of my chest, and all of the energy gets sucked from my body, and for some reason I feel no want to fight anymore.

So I don't.
