The iciness in Gong Yexiaoâs cold eyes dissipated when he looked over at Cheng Liyue. There seemed to be a sparkle in his eyes.
Shen Junyao looked on as the car departed.
Gritting her teeth, she was somewhat in disbelief. Cheng Liyue actually knew Gong Yexiao? And what was more, Gong Yexiao was that concerned over Cheng Liyue â going as far as to issue her a warning for Cheng Liyueâs benefit?
How was that even remotely possible?
She was able to sense the warmth and tenderness in Gong Yexiaoâs gesture towards Cheng Liyue. Heavens! How did Cheng Liyue have the good fortune of meeting Gong Yexiao?
Shen Junyao sneered. It must be that Gong Yexiao was unaware of the fact that Cheng Liyue had a son. Cheng Liyue, just you wait. You want to cling onto a man like Gong Yexiao? Dream on!
In the car
Gong Yexiao asked Cheng Liyue, âWho was that woman? Why did you hit her?â
âLu Junxuanâs wife.â She answered through clenched teeth.
Gong Yexiaoâs brows knitted in a frown. âWhat was that confrontation all about?ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Thinking back to Shen Junyao accusing her of intentionally approaching Lu Junxuan, Cheng Liyue wanted to laugh coldly. The last thing she would want to see in her life was Lu Junxuanâs nauseating face. She answered lightly, âIt was nothing.â
Gong Yexiao arched his brow. What was she concealing from him? Couldnât she trust him?
âWhoever dares to bully you in the future, let me be the first to know. I will help you out.â Gong Yexiao said to her in the hope that she would understand that he was willing to be her pillar of strength.
Cheng Liyue was taken aback. Shaking her head, she replied, âThank you, but no.â
His brows creased with displeasure. âCheng Liyue, we will be living together. I do not want there to be any alienation between us.â
He had a point. She mulled over it but she couldnât seem to get past the fact that he was part of the Gong family.
âDonât worry, I will try to get along well with you.â Cheng Liyue consoled.
This made him speechless. It was like there was a barrier around her. She would put up her guard against anyone that got too close to her.
They arrived at the school where there were many luxury cars waiting. Gong Yexiao had special access to drive into the school compound to pick up Cheng Yuze. They were met with the sight of the little boy playing with some kids on the slide. Seeing his parents approaching, the little boy made a showy display of going down the slide.
âXiao Ze, itâs time to go home.â Raising her voice, Cheng Liyue called out to him.
âMommy, can I do it one more time? Just once more.â The little boy was absorbed in playing to the point where he was reluctant to leave â such was a childâs nature.
âAlright.â Cheng Liyue was not a strict mother. She was lenient with her son for the most part.
Standing at the side, Gong Yexiaoâs gaze landed on her smiling face that was aglow with motherly love. He felt that there would be no other woman in this world who could top that quiet yet fierce love which Cheng Liyue had for their son.
The little boy happily slid down the slide. Once he was done, he dashed towards Cheng Liyue. She caught him in her arms and lifted him up, giving his tender cheeks a few kisses. The little fellow put his arms around her neck, giggling delightedly.
Gong Yexiao reached out and ruffled the little boyâs hair. Like a young puppy, the boy nuzzled his head against his fatherâs palm. The reliance and love that his son had for him struck Gong Yexiaoâs heart.
Once in the car, Gong Yexiao told them some news. For the convenience of sending their son to school and because there was a construction underway back at his own home to build a childrenâs playground, he had decided to move them to a place downtown.
This residential area had excellent security and was not only close to their offices but also the kidâs school.
What was most important was that Gong Yexiao wanted to live as a family of three and not be waited hand and foot by the domestic help. The previous experience he had at Cheng Liyueâs home had left a profound impact on him. It was definitely a pleasant experience.
Therefore, the place they lived in neednât be large. A smaller place would be more homely.
He took them to their new home. The little fellow was very excited. Cheng Liyue couldnât think of anything to say. In her heart, her sonâs education and safety took priority.
Since she had the audio of the manâs pledge to her, she felt more at ease.
Gong Yexiaoâs new home was situated on the 38th floor of a high-rise that had two private elevators and biometric security. It was safe and peaceful.
The place had lavish decor, expensive furnishings and was equipped with an advanced security system. The glass panes that were explosion-proof afforded a 360-degree panoramic view.
âHow much does this cost?â Looking around, Cheng Liyue marveled. She was very much curious about the price of it.
âIâm not too sure.â Gong Yexiao replied with his low voice.
Cheng Liyue turned to look at him. âYouâre not too sure? Youâre not the one who bought it?â
Gong Yexiao lightly shrugged. âI just bought over a real estate company. It can be said that this property belongs to me.â
Cheng Liyueâs face instantly stiffened. Looking at this luxurious, towering high-rise, she was stunned into silence.
The rich sure had an unconventional way of doing things.
âDaddy, hereâs my room!â The little boy exclaimed in excitement.
Chuckling, Gong Yexiao walked over to him. The room was cutely decorated and had all of the childâs favorite toys: robots, cars and airplanes. It was simply a paradise for the kid.
Cheng Liyue circled the opulent suite. She appeared calm and composed on the surface but inside she was having heart palpitations. This would mean she and her son would have to live here with this man for a year.
âFrom now on, it will just be us three living here. I wonât hire any help. As the mistress of the house, you should have no problems managing the household.â Gong Yexiaoâs magnetic voice sounded from behind her.
Hearing the words âmistress of the houseâ caused Cheng Liyueâs heart to tremble. She was not the mistress of the house! She was just a temporary guest here.
âThis place is too big. Keeping it spotless would be a bother.â Cheng Liyue complained. Moreover, she had her own work to keep her busy.
âIâll help. If we canât manage, then Iâll let the housekeeper come over once a week.â Gong Yexiao said considerately.
âAlright then.â Pursing her lips, Cheng Liyue replied. She was used to taking care of only her son and herself but there was now an additional person. She didnât know if she could manage it.
âSince itâs still early, weâll go to the store to get some groceries. From now on, we have to give our son the warmth of a complete family.â
This was not just something that his son needed, he found himself in need of it as well. Having abandoned all personal feelings in the past few years to become the head of the Gong Corporation, what he sought now was the warmth of a home.
Cheng Liyue looked at him, somewhat startled. Since when did he become so agreeable?
