Rong Weiwei forced a smile, no longer wanting to speak, and her eyes began to wander around. Quickly, her gaze locked onto the reason she had made the trip today.
âMufeng, I see my sister. Letâs go say hello,â she said, eager to hold Shi Mufengâs hand and head over to where Rong Yan was.
Shi Mufeng initially didnât realise Rong Yan was here, but now seeing her, his pupils constricted sharply, and he suddenly gripped Rong Weiweiâs hand tighter.
Rong Weiwei, who had been leading him forward, was suddenly pulled back, nearly stumbling. She turned her head back, puzzled, and said blankly, âMufeng?â
Whatâs he doing?
Shi Mufeng didnât even glance at her, his mind filled with the memory of the slap and warning he received because of Rong Yan, his eyes darkened while the corners of his mouth curled up, âI donât want to go over there!â
âWhy?â Rong Weiwei still wanted to parade their affection in front of Rong Yan, to disgust her. If he refused to go over, wouldnât it disrupt her plan?
She bit her lip and, with a flicker in her eyes, tilted her head upward and ventured, âAre you still angry at my sister? She probably didnât mean to keep us in the dark about her and Mr. Li; she was most likely afraid weâd bring up something from five years ago in front of Mr. Li.â
The stain from five years ago would forever be a blot on Rong Yanâs record, even if the man back then wasnât Huang Youde, it would have been some other man! She wouldnât sit idly by; this time, she intended to give Rong Yan a significant gift!
Rong Weiwei tightened her grip on his arm and softened her voice, âMufeng, since weâve already seen my sister, letâs go over and offer her a toast. How about it?â
Shi Mufengâs brow furrowed into a Sichuan character, showing no intention of going over there.
She persisted, pulling out all the stops, âFor my sake, letâs not hold a grudge against my sister. The issue from the other day has already caused so much distress at home; I donât want to see our family thrown into disarray because of an issue between my sister and me. I truly want to reconcile with her, and I donât want to have any more conflicts with her.â
âMufeng, will you accompany me over there?â
Shi Mufeng saw the watery shimmer in her apricot eyes, felt a twinge of reluctance in his heart, and remembered all the recent gossip implying that she was looking for fun in nightclubsâhe found it hard to refuse her request as she had never confronted him about it and had borne it all silently, âI understand.â
Rong Weiweiâs face brightened with joy, her delicate features beaming with happiness, âThank you, Mufeng. I knew you would stand by me.â
As she spoke, she held his arm even tighter.
Shi Mufeng found himself firmly linked by her assertion of ownership, surrounded by onlookers glancing their way; however, he lost the sense of ease and pride he used to feel, driven more by a sense of duty than anything else, he did not pull away.

âQi Yue.â Rong Yan was unaware that some pests were once again targeting her as she only glanced over when Rong Weiwei and the others entered, and promptly headed to the corner to find the obedient girl who had been waiting there with a juice in hand.
Qi Yue had also dressed formally today, a white ladylike dress complemented by a cute pearl hairpin, looking demure and tranquil. Unfortunately, amid the dazzling beauties in the VIP room, her serene appearance seemed dull and lacklustre. Despite also being one of the top ten contestantsâranking even higher than Xia Xueânot a single investor or executive seemed to notice her
