Marco couldnât think of anything heâd done wrong, so he relaxed a bit.
âMarco,â Clarissa said, her tone serious. âA lot of police officers went to our company today.
You and your brothers havenât been involved in anything illegal, have you? Especially under the
companyâs name?â
Clarissaâs tone was grave. Marco couldnât see her face, but he could tell from her voice that she
was serious.
Marco was shocked to hear about the police at the company. He replied carefully, âMom, my
brothers and I havenât done anything illegal. Weâve been doing business normally, maybe just a little
competitive. But, Mom, what are the police doing at the company? Is everything okay with our
taxes?â
Clarissa scolded him, âThe tax bureau handles taxes, not the police.â
âThen I really donât know whatâs going on,â Marco said. âI can assure you we havenât done anything
illegal.â
If they had done something wrong, the police would have come directly for them.
âWhere are you now? Get your brothers back to the company,â Clarissa ordered.
After notifying her sons, Clarissa called Mr. Dunn, her assistant, to make sure everything was in
order before heading back to Farrell Group.
When she arrived, the police were waiting for her. They informed her that they had received a report
that Mr. Dunn, her assistant, was in possession of a gun and requested that both she and Mr. Dunn
come to the station for questioning.
Mr. Dunn was fiercely loyal to Clarissa, only acting on her orders, so only she had his contact
information. Even though people often saw him at the company, no one else had his number.
The police asked Clarissa to provide Mr. Dunnâs contact information and to call him to accompany
her to the station.
âOfficer, who told you this? Who reported that Mr. Dunn has a gun? Heâs just my assistant, not a
criminal. Someone must be trying to frame him and discredit me,â Clarissa said, defensive. âIâve
made plenty of enemies, and now theyâre trying to bring me down by blaming me for things I didnât
do.â
Even though the police were only interested in Mr. Dunn, his actions reflected on her, and if he had
a gun, she would likely know about it. If she went to the station with him, it would be hard to avoid
trouble.
Clarissa suspected Liberty was behind this.
As soon as she heard the police were at the company, she feared they had discovered her gun and
reported it.
Her suspicion made her nervous.
She knew she was guilty of something illegal and that there would be consequences.
âMrs. Farrell, we need to investigate whether the report is false. Please cooperate by coming with
us for questioning. Itâs a routine procedure, and we appreciate your understanding,â one of the
officers explained.
Clarissa paused before responding, âSomeone is trying to frame me. You donât have any evidence;
you canât arrest anyone.â
âMrs. Farrell, weâre not formally arresting you. We just need to question you,â the officer clarified.
