The mother and daughter, who hadnât slept all night, were walking in the yard. Despite the cold, they
didnât seem to feel it. They werenât talking about hate or resentment, just chatting about family
matters. In that moment, they were simply an ordinary mother and daughter.
After walking for a while, Clarissa said to her daughter, âKathryn, letâs sit down. Iâm old, and I canât
walk any further.â
She led the way and sat on a long stone bench, and Kathryn followed, sitting beside her.
âItâs almost dawn,â Clarissa observed, looking at the sky. âIn winter, the nights are long, but in
summer, it would already be bright by now.â
She pulled her coat tighter and asked, âKathryn, are you cold?â
Kathryn replied, âYes, itâs quite cold out here.â
Clarissa reached out to adjust Kathrynâs collar. âYouâre not dressed warmly enough. You should
wear a thicker coat. Youâre used to being in heated places, so you donât feel it as much. Without
heat, youâll shiver in this cold. You have such fair skinâyoung people always have such soft, tender
skin. Itâs good to be young.â
As Clarissa touched Kathrynâs neck, Kathryn felt something was wrong and tried to stand up, but it
was too late. She felt a sharp pain at the back of her neck, and everything went black as she lost
consciousness.
Clarissa caught Kathryn as she collapsed and then called Mr. Dunn to come and take her away.
Mr. Dunn soon arrived, and Clarissa handed Kathryn over to him. She instructed, âAfter you take
Kathryn out, hand her over to her bodyguard. Make sure sheâs taken out of Jensburg and arrange
for someone to protect her. We donât want Pedro to harm her while sheâs unconscious. Once sheâs
safely out, notify Pedro so he can find her. But wait until near dusk to tell himâdonât let him bring
her back to Jensburg.â
Clarissa continued, âKathryn will wake up soon. When she does, make sure someone gives her two
sleeping pills so she stays asleep for two days. Otherwise, sheâll try everything to come back.â
Clarissa whispered her orders to Mr. Dunn, who then reassured her, âMaâam, Iâll arrange everything.
Kathrynâs stand-in is already prepared. Sheâll stay by your side after dawn and help you host Audrey
tonight.â
Clarissaâs eyes were cold. âThey want to dig up the truth and fight for the power of the Farrell family.
If they wonât let me live peacefully, then no one will.â
Mr. Dunn replied, âDonât worry, maâam. Iâll make sure the young lady is sent away safely. The stand-
in is nearly identical to Kathryn in body shape, voice, and face. With a little makeup, even Kathryn
herself would think itâs her twin.â
Clarissa nodded, satisfied. âGo ahead. I trust you.â
Mr. Dunn then took the unconscious Kathryn away, and soon after, brought Kathrynâs stand-in into
the Farrell family mansion to temporarily take her place.
With the stand-in posing as Kathryn, when Audrey and the others arrived that night, they wouldnât
suspect anything.
If Kathryn wasnât there, Audrey and the others would be on high alert.
Clarissaâs true intention behind this plan was to save Kathrynâs life. Kathryn was too stubborn and
refused to listen, believing that Clarissa was wrong and should face the consequences.
