Chapter 624 Itâs Too Late Despite Lucyâs inner thoughts, she maintained a faint smile. âOf course I do.â
The woman laid the document in her hands on the desk. âMs. Lane, I need your signature on this document so I can submit these expenses to the finance department for reimbursement.â
Martha glanced at Lucy coldly. âThereâs no rush. Review it, fill in any missing details, and come back to me in two days.â
âMs. Lane, hereâs the thing.â Lucy pouted but responded respectfully, âIâve organized it meticulously and need your signature here. If anything is missing, Iâll bring it to your attention next time. Could you please sign this for me first?â
âWhat if thereâs no next time?â Martha stared at Lucy coldly, her smile turning malicious. âPerhaps this is your final reimbursement application in our hospitalâ¦
Lucy was taken aback. She gazed at Martha in shock, taking a moment to come to her senses.
However, she feigned ignorance on the surface. âWhy is that? Are you planning to dismiss Ms. Lane?â
me, âPerhaps.â Martha sneered but refrained from further comment.
Lucy is Cheriseâs closest friend and secured a position at Lermille Hospital through Cheriseâs influence.
Now that Cherise will be in hot water, itâs hard for Lucy to remain unscathed.
When Cherise gets ousted, perhaps Lucy will also be implicated and have to leaveâ¦
Upon seeing that the older woman remained unmoved, Lucy smirked. She picked up the documents on the desk and held them to her chest. âYouâre right, Ms. Lane. Iâll review it again. Perhaps I wonât need your signature next time. I should hope our new deputy hospital director will be friendlier.â
Lucyâs words caused Martha to raise her brows abruptly. Martha glared at Lucy icily. âWhat did you just say?!â
âPerhaps youâre on the verge of being dismissed too.â
The atmosphere in the office suddenly grew tense.
Marthaâs eyes widened, and she glared fiercely at Lucy. âWhat did you say?!â
âWeâre in the same boat.â Lucy continued smiling at Martha. âMs. Lane, didnât you just insinuate that I would be dismissed? If you can make such jokes with me, why canât I do the same with you? We should be treated equally. I believe that no one enjoys being the butt of a cruel joke, including you.â
âIâll inform Dr. Keeples that you didnât approve.â Lucy continued smiling and held the documents close.
âHe told me to look for you to expedite the approval of this document for reimbursement because it involves his personal funds.â
She yawned lightly and had just walked away when she heard Marthaâs somewhat resentful voice from behind, âCome back. Iâll approve it!â
âItâs too late.â Lucy yawned again. âIâll go look for Mrs. Keeples.â
Lermille Hospital had a hospital director and two deputy directors. One was Martha, and the other was Mrs. Keeples, Dr. Keeplesâ wife.
Anything related to Dr. Keeplesâ personal funds was usually approved by Martha, as it could potentially cause conflicts if Mrs. Keeples were to sign off on it. But now, Lucy was determined to get Mrs.
Keeplesâ approval instead.
If Dr. Keeples wanted to hold someone accountable, all blame could be pointed to Martha!
âYouâre ruthless!â Martha clenched her fists tightly as she watched Lucy leave determinedly.
