Yolanda furrowed her brow, contemplating Sebastianâs words and finding some semblance of logic in them.
Her brother had indeed been involved in numerous flings, frequently changing partners, yet he never managed to maintain a long-term relationship.
Consequently, the chances of him fathering a child were relatively low.
âBut what if?â she voiced her concern, her mind swirling with possibilities.
Sebastianâs smirk was self-assured as he replied, âI always use protection. Iâm not like that reckless Alain, seeking pleasure and ending up in accidents.â
Yolandaâs complexion paled at the mention of their fatherâs indiscretions with other women.
If it werenât for their fatherâs actions, the Weiss family wouldnât have had someone like Sebastian.
Now, he used this fact to taunt their father.
âBut if Alexis isnât your son, why mention it to)Damien?â Yolanda pressed, seeking clarification.
âJust to disgust him,â Sebastian retorted with a smirk, his gaze distant and inscrutable.
Yolanda pursed her lips, unsatisfied with his answer âIs that all?â
âYou donât need to know,â Sebastian replied dismissively.
As the clock struck five in the afternoon, Lucy made her arrival at Lenoir Residence, bearing a medication test report and a DNA test application.
âThe medication has been confirmed as safe,â Lucy declared confidently, setting the report on the table before Damien.
âSebastian was telling the truth. Its ingredients can effectively neutralize the âtoxinsâ in Cheriseâs body.â
Placing another report in front of Damien, Lucy continued, âYou've been misled. The medication Sebastian administered to Cherise is detectable but technically harmless. In other words, it wasnât poison-it had no adverse effects whatsoever. Sebastian likely concocted the illusion of poisoning Cherise out of fear of you.â
Sitting stoically on the sofa, Damien studied the report in his hand. âThat makes sense,â he acknowledged. âif Jacob hadnât found any evidence of poisoning in Cheriseâs body, | wouldnât have believed he had harmed her. And at the bar that day, | wouldnât have merely shot his leg.â
Lucy frowned, pressing further. âWhat if you had known Cherise wasnât poisoned by him that day? What would you have done?â
Damien's gaze sharpened. âI would have ended him.â
âYou're still not composed enough,â Lucy remarked, shaking her head with a tinge of frustration.
âCherise used to praise you as the epitome of composure and self-control. Now it seems her perception was clouded by love.â
A faint smile ghosted across Damien's lips. âItâs not about composure-itâs about reacting appropriately to different circumstances.â
With a touch of melancholy, he rose and approached the window, gazing out at the fading leaves. âIf you were in this situation now, | believe Lennon wouldn't exhibit the composure you deem necessary.â
Lucyâs brows furrowed deeply as she shot Damien a piercing glare.
âDonât dare to compare Cheriseâs situation to mine!â she retorted sharply.
âThe dynamics between Lennon and | vastly differ from yours and Cheriseâs!â
Damien's lips curved into a cold smile as he met aicAnKene unyielding! |
detemindtid Vastly different?â he echoed, his tone laced with sarcasm.
âIs it that Lennon doesn't care for you enough, or patna Qy donttoare for hin entugh? & Ke} it be that there was never a child between you Awave of emotion swept over Lucyâs features, her expression contorted with pain.
âDon't bring up that child,â she snapped, he voice trembling with suppressed anguish.
Five years ago, after a night fueled by alcohol, she had indeed shared a relationship with Lennon.
And yes, she had been carrying his child.
But that child had been cruelly taken away by Lennon himself, shattering any possibility of reconciliation between them!
The impossibility of their relationship had solidified at that mnprpent, and |
