âNow that heâs finally sleeping soundly, his biggest problem must have been resolved, the doctor remarked, glancing at Cherise. âMrs. Lenoir, you must take good care of Mr. Lenoir and make sure he sleeps during this time. Heâs too neglectful of his own well-being.â
Cherise listened intently to the doctorâs concerns about Damien. She also took note of Mr. Hampsonâs account of Damienâs recent sleep patterns. It seemed that⦠he hadnât been able to rest properly since she lost her memory. He managed only three to four hours of sleep a day, consumed by fear that something might happen to her. He was afraid she would lose all her memories after some time due to amnesia.
Consequently, he worked tirelessly, handling the companyâs affairs and overseeing his subordinates.
Since Sebastian had informed her of their past, Damien had been sleeping only one or two hours a night, spending late hours in the study to carve out more time to be with her.
âMr. Lenoir hasnât been getting enough rest latelyâ¦â Mr. Hords struck Cherise deeply. causing a pang in her heart. Tears welled up in her eyes and silently rolled down her cheeks. âYou always call me a fool, she murmured, reaching out to stroke the manâs cold, stoic face tenderly, âBut arenât you the real fool?â â
He silently endured so much for her without ever revealing the extent of his sacrifices. He would rather bear her resentment and misunderstanding than burden her with explanations. If it hadnât been for Lucyâs words yesterday or if Mr. Hampson hadnât disclosed Damienâs recent sleeplessness⦠Would I still persist in misunderstanding him? Would I still engage in endless arguments with him?
âIâm not a fool,â the man murmured, slowly opening his eyes and gently wiping away the tears from the corners of her eyes. âPlease donât cry. It pains me to see you like this.â
Cheriseâs tears finally spilled over. She threw herself into his embrace. âIf you donât want me to cry, then stop putting yourself through this torment.â
âIâm fine,â the man smiled faintly, reaching to caress her head. âIâm a man. Iâll be alright.â
âYouâre a man, but youâre not invincible!â Cherise bit her lip as she lay against him, feeling the warmth of his body. Her voice caught in her throat. âIf you keep pushing yourself like this, youâll be gone before I regain my memory!â
âThat wonât happen,â the manâs voice remained faint. Itâs just a matter of not getting enough rest. Itâs nothing major.â
âInsufficient rest can lead to serious health issues, the doctor added, concerned by Damienâs disregard for his well-being. âContinuing to subject yourself to this level of strain could overwhelm even the strongest physiques.â
âDid you hear that?â Cherise sniffled, her gaze fixed on Damienâs face with a touch of frustration. âThe doctor clearly stated that even the strongest body canât endure this pressure!â She drew in a deep breath. Iâve made a decision. Youâre not permitted to do anything today. Just stay home to rest and sleep!â
âSilly girl,â Damien sighed softly. âThereâs still so much to do today. How can I possibly sleep? I âIâm not going!â Cherise sniffled, her tone resolute. âEven if you refuse to rest, I wonât go to Shawbury today. And even if I go, I wonât dwell on the past unless you take care of yourself!â
Damien frowned, studying her worried expression. After a moment, he managed a forced smile. âIt seems Iâll have to heed your advice today and prioritize my rest.â
âThatâs right! Set everything else aside for now,â Cherise affirmed. âYou must take good care of yourself today! I donât want to regain my memories only to lose my husband!â
