Chapter 1103

Marrying the Man in the Dark

Chapter 1103 Anthony's Disdain

"If I didn't know better, I might have forgotten that I only have one elder sister, mistook Colin for my long-lost twin, and rushed him to a DNA test!" Damien quipped.

This prompted a subtle furrow of Anthony's eyebrows. "You have quite the sense of humor, Mr. Lenoir," Anthony chuckled softly. "Coles's father hails from abroad, hence his distinctive features. But yours... well, I presume your father is a native Adanian, Mr. Lenoir. It's merely a coincidence; don't read too much into it."

Damien keenly noted the panic flickering in the middle-aged man's eyes and the slight quiver in his voice. "Of course," he replied with a faint smile. "I don't recall any foreign lineage in my family. After seeing Mr. Colin's eyes, I abandoned that notion." After that, Damien proceeded to introduce Cherise. "This is my wife, Cherise Shaw."

"You're also known as Ms. Charlotte Tanner, right?" Anthony's smile widened as he extended his hand towards Cherise. He felt a twinge of awkwardness and was about to retract his hand, but Cherise had already grasped it firmly and shook his hand. "Mr. Gray, a pleasure to meet you. We might be imposing on your hospitality for a while."

"No trouble at all!" Anthony beamed, ushering them in with a grin and signaling the servants to serve the food.

Seated around the dining table, Cherise and Damien found themselves sitting in the guests' seats. Across from them were Colin and Jude, while Anthony occupied the head of the table. At the same time, the seat beside him remained conspicuously empty.

"Mr. Lenoir, is this you and Mrs. Lenoir's inaugural visit to our charming Yatesville?" Anthony inquired warmly after the servants had served the dishes. "I've arranged for the servants to prepare some local specialties for you. I trust they'll delight your palate."

Damien glanced briefly over the spread of delectable seafood dishes before turning to Cherise with a gentle smile. His wife, a great food lover, regarded the dishes curiously with wide eyes as they were served. This was their first time in Yatesville, and the coastal town boasted an array of deep-sea delicacies unfamiliar to her. Observing Cherise's wonderment, Damien couldn't help but smile.

Yet, in Anthony's eyes, there lingered a hint of disdain. Charlotte is the Tanner family's sole heir. No wonder she has yet to assume control of the family business. Such uncultivated behavior, openly displaying her ignorance, is hardly befitting of a lady of her standing!

As the Tanner family's daughter and Damien's spouse, she should display greater poise and dignity! A proper young lady or the wife of a man of high standing would maintain a composed and indifferent demeanor, even when confronted with the unfamiliar! How can Cherise lay bare her superficiality and ignorance so unabashedly?

The more Anthony gazed at Cherise, the more his disgust simmered privately. Ultimately, he couldn't help but secretly feel relieved that she was Damien's wife, not Coles's. Otherwise, his ire would have been ignited! This woman proved even more uncultivated than Phoenix, Jude's girlfriend back then!

Though others might not have perceived the disdain in Anthony's gaze, his son, Jude, discerned it clearly. He offered a faint smile and remarked to Cherise, "Dr. Shaw, it appears you're unfamiliar with large fishing towns like Yatesville."

Cherise felt a twinge of embarrassment and nodded. "Well, as you're aware, I've been confined to my work in the hospital for years. It's only recently that I resigned from my position and gained the opportunity to travel."
