Chapter 1105

Marrying the Man in the Dark

Chapter 1105 Mrs Gray's Condition

As everyone raised their glasses at the table, Anthony reluctantly raised his own with a stormy expression. He muttered, "To Mrs. Lenoir." Even Cherise couldn't help but notice the hesitance etched on his face.

After the toast, Damien broached the question, which weighed heavily on his mind with wrinkled brows. "Why haven't I seen Mrs. Gray?" His primary reason for being there was to track down Mrs. Gray and unravel the mysteries surrounding her connection to his mother. Regardless of whether Colin was his biological twin, Damien needed to have a candid conversation with Mrs. Gray. After all, the details she had shared with Colin about his background raised suspicions.

"My wife, she..." Anthony started with furrowed brows, but before he could finish, Jude cut in sharply, "My mother won't be able to join us, Mr. Lenoir."

Damien frowned. "Why not?"

"My mother was recently involved in a car accident and is still unconscious," Jude stated the harsh truth indifferently. "Due to her condition, my father rushed to transfer control of Gray Group to Coles so he could focus on caring for her." As he spoke, he shot a smirk in Damien's direction. "I'm sorry to disappoint you, Mr. Lenoir."

Damien's eyes narrowed, a flicker of deadly anger passing through them. Since leaving the island, an entire day had elapsed. Not once had Colin or Jude mentioned Mrs. Gray being unconscious whenever she was brought up. Colin had even talked about Mrs. Gray multiple times. He had confided in them that she told him about his family background, but he never brought up that she was in an accident!

It was evident that Jude had orchestrated this plan. His aim was to stir Damien's curiosity about Mrs. Gray, draw him in, secure his voluntary agreement to Colin's request, and then disclose the truth about Mrs. Gray's unconscious state only after Damien was already committed and had no way to back down at Gray Residence. It was a crafty and devious strategy.

"But, Mr. Lenoir, there's no reason to be disappointed. After all, my mother will regain consciousness soon," Jude said as if sensing Damien's displeasure and fury as he topped up Damien's wine glass. "You can see her sooner than you think. After all..." He shot a glance at Anthony and smiled maliciously. "Our father is more eager for her recovery."

Anthony's expression soured slightly, though he still offered reassurance to Damien. "That's right. You'll have the chance to see my wife... in due time."

Damien came to the stark realization that he had fallen right into Jude's carefully laid trap, leaving him with no recourse but to bide his time until Mrs. Gray awoke. On one hand, he could only resign himself to his fate. On the other hand, he had no other choice but to wait for Mrs. Gray to regain consciousness.

Beyond Mrs. Gray's enigmatic condition... he found himself perplexed by the idiosyncratic members of the Gray family, particularly the frighteningly guileless Colin, whom he could get no answers.

Following dinner, Colin escorted Damien and Cherise to their guest room. Gray Residence was a vast villa, but the guest rooms Anthony had arranged for them to stay in were strategically situated apart from the main villa. He claimed it was to circumvent any potential discomfort.

However, Damien understood Anthony's underlying motives for such arrangements... Anthony preferred not to encounter Cherise on a daily basis. It was a preemptive measure to sidestep any awkward encounters. Nonetheless, it was a good decision. Damien didn't want the narrow-minded Anthony to constantly show his disdain towards Cherise.

"Why do I get the sense that Mr. Gray is... rather peculiar?" Cherise mused aloud on the sofa at the detached villa after Colin had departed, looking at Damien in bewilderment.
