Chapter 1113
Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 1113 No Chance
"By the way, I never got around to asking because you lost your memory," Lucy seemed to suddenly recall something and looked up at Cherise. "Can you finally tell me why you were so insistent on adopting this child in the first place? Just because you thought he was cute?"
Cherise's heart skipped a beat. She hesitated, then pursed her lips. "Lucy, actually, this child..." At that moment, she felt there was no reason to keep it from Lucy any longer. With Lucy's inability to conceive, finding out she has a biological son should be a joyous occasion, right? Taking a deep breath, she was about to reveal Alexis's true identity when Lucy's phone rang.
It was an unknown number. "Yes?" Lucy answered the call without moving away from Cherise. "I'll be right back." Hanging up hastily, Lucy stood up. "The hotel staff informed me that my dad left with a man named Belcourt," she said, her lips pursed with a hint of coldness in her eyes. "That d*mn Lennon has followed me here!" With that declaration, she gathered her belongings and made to leave.
Cherise pressed her lips together and rose from her seat. "Um, are you still not... willing to..."
"I want to steer clear of anything to do with him!" Lucy ground her teeth in frustration. "If he's in Adania, I'll leave Adania. I can't bear to be in the same city as him! There's no chance of reconciliation in this lifetime." With those words, she grabbed her bag and hurried away in enormous strides.
Cherise remained rooted to the spot, watching Lucy's departure in a daze. The determination in her heart began to waver. Should I really... divulge Alexis's true background to Lucy? Especially now, when her resentment towards Lennon burns so fiercely... Maybe I should let it go. With a heavy sigh, Cherise got up and left.
Lucy and Colin's wedding was set for a week later, a lavish affair befitting Colin's impending status as the Gray family's heir. The event drew in all who had connections to the Gray family in Yatesville, alongside those with economic ties to the Gray Group.
The opulent ceremony unfolded in the most extravagant church in Yatesville. Despite the bride and groom not taking the marriage seriously, the Gray family spared no expense in their preparations.
Amidst the lively atmosphere of the wedding day, Cherise couldn't shake off a sense of loneliness. She couldn't quite pinpoint the reason behind it, but amidst the bustling crowds, the sight of Lucy in her bridal gown and Colin in his suit hit her with a pang of solitude. Perhaps it was because this union lacked the warmth of genuine blessings.
Everyone present at the wedding understood the true nature of the union between the bride and groom. The couple harbored no genuine feelings for each other. It was no secret that this marriage was merely a means for Colin to ascend to the Gray Group's presidency, with Lucy being utilized as a mere stepping stone. Despite the grandeur of the occasion, the absence of genuine blessings cast a palpable shadow of forlornness over the event.
"I've envisioned Lucy's wedding countless times," Cherise confessed softly as she leaned against Damien, a hint of sadness tugging at her heart. "But I never imagined... it would be like this..."
Despite the knowledge that this wedding was purely a business transaction,
Cherise couldn't help but feel... heartbroken and upset in spite of Lucy's apparent indifference towards the event. It was because Lucy was kind, courageous, charming, and deserving of happiness above all else. Why, then, was she relegated to such a fate?
