Chapter 22
Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 22 You Canât Be So Reckless
âWe were just sending you away so we could talk about things we didnât want you to know about.â
Cheriseâs actions stopped entirely.
She turned and looked at Damien with a complicated expression.
âSo you didnât have to rush back at all. Nor did you need to get yourself into such a wretched
state.â
Cherise gritted her teeth and wanted to say something, but Elvis immediately started to smooth things
over. âMr. Lenoir, Cherise was afraid you were hungry.â
âPlease donât take offense. Cherise grew up in the countryside since she was young. She views things
too simply sometimes. Please pardon her.â
âUncle Shaw!â
Cherise gritted her teeth. She didnât think she had done anything wrong, so she couldnât stand her
uncle degrading her before Damien.
âKeep quiet, Cherise!â
Elvis took a deep breath. âYouâre Mrs. Lenoir from now on. You canât be so reckless!â
âYou must know that you have a reputation as Mrs. Lenoir. Itâs more important than this. dispensable
breakfast!â
âBut to me, you think your breakfast is more important!â
âWhat nonsense is this?! Youâre the Lenoir familyâs daughterâinâlaw, the wealthiest family in Mondale!â
The noise of the uncle and niece arguing made Damien turn away silently. He wheeled himself to the
window to feel the morning breeze.
Since he was around ten years old, no one other than the villaâs servants cared if he ate breakfast.
No one would ever climb up more than ten flights of stairs like Cherise just so he could have an earlier
breakfast.
He had always been lonely and desolate.
Therefore, he felt contented when he heard ordinary people like Elvis and Cherise argue over
something as simple as breakfast.
The morning breeze caressed his face. He shut his eyes and had a selfâdeprecating smile on the
corners of his lips.
âHere, your breakfast.â
A womanâs crisp voice rang in his ears. âI tried looking in the cafés downstairs but couldnât find
favorite milk and sandwiches, so I bought what was available. Donât turn it down.â
your
He turned and was faced with Cheriseâs tiny, charming face..
She was looking down and inserting a straw into a milkshake. She looked up with a smile as she
passed it to him. âI bet someone as wealthy as you hasnât tried this before. Itâs delicious.â
Upon seeing that he wasnât taking it from her, she grabbed his hand and put the milkshake in it. âI
carried it up fifteen floors. Donât be rude, okay?â
This was Damienâs first time trying a milkshake outside.
The milkshake was made of strawberries and bananas. A little sugar was added as well.
The pure flavor of the fruits was intertwined with a slight sweetness.
It resembled Damienâs current feelings.
The petite woman before him crouched down in front of his wheelchair. She stuffed a bagel into his
hands as she held the milkshake for him. âDo you want more?â
He shook his head. âIâm full.â
Upon hearing that, Cherise shook the milkshake left in the cup. She finished the remainder of Damienâs
milkshake and bagel on the principle of not wasting food.
After that, she went to Elvisâ side and collected the packaging from his breakfast before disposing of
them.
The doors of the emergency room opened after that.
A nurse pushed Mary out of the emergency room while a doctor removed his face mask. âShe isnât in
critical condition anymore but must be on bed rest for some time.â
After that, the doctor looked at Elvis meaningfully. âSheâs in poor health. As her family, I hope you can
pay more attention to her. She cannot be agitated further.â
