Chapter 24
Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 24 Blue Darts
Eriana was an annoying troublemaker. Cherise didnât want to be involved with her.
But Cherise never thought Erianaâs underlings would ambush her at the schoolâs back door.
The schoolâs isolated and uninhabited back door was overgrown with weeds.
Lucy pulled Cherise to the back door. They had just left when the hooligans guarding the back door
surrounded them.
âIâm right. You really left from the back door.â
The crafty leader smiled maliciously. âI havenât seen you in a long time, Chèrry.â
The man looked like a criminal. Lucy frowned slightly. âWho is this?â
Cherise took a deep breath. âAunt Erianaâs son, Nicky Gruber.â
Nicky was three years older than Cherise but kept repeating grades because of his poor results. When
Cherise sat for her SATS, Nicky had just gotten into a dubious, thirdârate school in Adania.
He had sinister thoughts about Cherise since they were young. He had even tried to force her toâ¦
If her uncle hadnât reached in time, she would have taken her own life at the scene.
When Cherise thought of how she had been bullied by Nicky in the past, a wave of nausea emerged
uncontrollably in her heart.
She retreated subconsciously, but Nickyâs friends were behind her.
âCherry, youâre studying in Adania. Why have you never come to look for me?â
âIf
my mom didnât ask me where your school was, I wouldnât have known my beloved cousin was in the
same city as me!â
As he spoke, he approached Cherise with a sneer. âI havenât seen you in a few years. Youâre glowing,
Cherry!â
He smiled suggestively, giving Lucy goosebumps.
She summoned her courage and stood in front of Cherise. âYouâre not worthy to be Cheriseâs cousin!
Youâre disgusting!â
âTsk, tsk. You say such nasty things, pretty girl.â
A cigarette hung from the corner of Nickyâs mouth. He indicated for his friends to apprehend Lucy.
After that, he scoffed while approaching Cherise. âCherise, come here and let me look at you.â
Cheriseâs hands by her side were clenched into fists.
She pursed her lips and glared straight at him. âDonât come near me!â
âWhat are you going to do if I come to you?â
Nicky smiled maliciously and leaned closer to her.
A man behind Cherise held her hands to prevent her from escaping.
As Nicky approached Cherise crudelyâ¦
âSwish. A sharp dart landed on Nickyâs right knee.
He staggered in pain, and his other leg knelt on the ground.
At the same time, there was another swish. Another dart flew past and hit him firmly in his left knee.
âCrash.â Nicky knelt on the ground with both knees before Cherise.
The abrupt and unforeseen situation left Cherise, Lucy, Nicky, and his friends at the scene stupefied.
As the people around Nicky helped him stand up, he pulled the dart from his knee and looked around
frantically. âWho was it?!â
âD*mn it! So meddlesome!â
A small blue dart was in his hands.
Cherise furrowed her brows. While cleaning the bedside table this morning, /she had seen this type of
dart in Damienâs drawer.
When she had picked it up, she wanted to ask him if the dart was his. But when she thought about it,
he was blind. How could he see the dartboard if he couldnât see his newly weddedâ wife?
She didnât ask him to avoid bringing up a sad matter.
But why is this dart here? And why did it happen to land on Nickyâs knee?
âScoundrel! Show yourself!â
