Chapter 26
Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 26 A Burden
Cheriseâs figure trembled slightly. She subconsciously turned to glance at Damien next to her.
The man was still leaning back in his chair like before. He hadnât moved.
She took a deep breath and picked up the pen to write her reply. âOf course, he isnât mute. He speaks!â
âSo why isnât he saying anything?â
Cherise wrinkled her brows as she looked at what Lucy had written.
Thatâs right. Why isnât he saying anything?
Since Blake had pushed him to the schoolâs back door, he didnât seem to have said anything until
now.
She bit her lips and racked her brains before she sighed. âDamien must be angry.
âWhy is he angry?â
âPerhaps he feels like he married a burden.
Perhaps when Damien married her, he never thought her family would be so complicated.
Not only did she have aunts who wanted money from her uncle, but she also had a shameless cousin
like Nicky.
âA burden?â
Lucy was confused at the word Cherise used.
âWealthy people donât like troublesome people. My relatives are very troublesome.
Cherise sighed deeply. She suddenly felt that the pen in her hands was slightly heavy.
After a long time, she wrote down her worst thought. âPerhaps heâs already planning to divorce
me.â
Women had boundless imaginations.
The man, whose eyes were covered by black silk, leaned back in his chair and shook his head subtly.
A trace of a smile was in the corners of his lips.
The car quickly arrived at an intersection near Lucyâs house.
âI can get down here.â
Lucy said to Mr. Kolson before patting Cheriseâs shoulder gently. âDonât think of the worst.â
After she left, Cherise leaned in her chair and was lost in thought as she watched the landscape
outside the window sweep past continuously.
Donât think of the worst.
She wasnât thinking of the worst now. It was the reality.
âHas your cousin always treated you like this?â
The manâs deep voice rang softly in her ears when she was lost in thought.
Cherise was startled and turned. The man, whose eyes were covered with black silk, was still in his
previous posture as he leaned back. A thoughtful expression was on his face.
She pursed her lips. âIâm thinking about what to eat for dinner.â
A relaxed smile was on the corners of the manâs lips. âHave you decided?â
Her mind was restless, and she wanted him to stop asking her. âNot⦠yet.
âLetâs eat out for a change. I happen to want something different today.â
After that, the man spoke indifferently to Mr. Kolson, who was driving. âTo Garden Paradise.â
Mr. Kolson was slightly taken aback. âAre you sure, Mr. Lenoir?â
âYes. Tell Blake to get ready.â
âAlright.â
Their conversation left Cherise baffled.
They were just going out for a meal. Why did it sound so serious?
What did Blake have to prepare?
Thirty minutes later, Cherise and Damien arrived at the soâcalled Garden Paradise. She finally
understood why Mr. Kolson had reacted that way.
The soâcalled Garden Paradise wasnât a restaurant. It was the rooftop of a hotel.
The hotel was over thirty floors high. It wasnât tall or short but showcased Mondaleâs evening
scenery.
The rooftopâs security measures were comprehensive. It was also decorated gorgeously, but only one
table was there.
Mr. Kolson pushed Damien to the table, and Cherise sat across from him.
A waiter walked up to them. âMr. Lenoir, would you like the usual course?â
