Chapter 316
Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 316 A Tough One
Cherise pursed her lips, quietly comforting her. âLucy, youâve only been with Rodney for a month. Itâs
great you realized heâs a jerk this early into your relationship.â
âDonât waste your emotional energy for a man like him.â
Lucy let out a long sigh, her frustrations building. âIâm not emotional because of him!â
âIâm angry at myself for being with a man like him!â Lucy slammed her fist onto her thighs.
âI made a bet with Lennon yesterday that Rodney was definitely into me!â
âI told Lennon that if Rodney didnât like me or wanted to break up with me, Iâd be with him!â
Her face darkened as she thought about it. âHe even burst out laughing just now!â
Cherise was rendered speechless by her friendâs reaction.
Instead of comforting Lucy further, she felt the urge to congratulate her.
âLucy! Cherry!â
Arissa was waving at them from afar. âCall your friends out. Weâre leaving soon!â
Cherise nodded and hurried to the villa to let the others know.
Damien, Lennon, and Jacob were chatting happily.
Over their shouldersâ¦.
Cherise saw Mandy and Rodneyâ¦
Her eyes bulged at the sight.
Mandy was a tough one.
Cherise couldnât believe any girl would like Rodney, even for his looks.
Mandy and Rodney had only known each other for two days.
She would only be willing to believe that Mandy was acting this way because she told her that Rodney
wasnât ready to initiate the breakup with Lucy.

But⦠isnât this going a little overboard?
Wouldnât she feel uncomfortable looking at Rodney?
âI have seen people who were much uglier when I was practicing my flirting skills.â
Mandy yawned and leaned against the big tree, staring at Rodney in the distance, who was getting
water for her. âI have had several experiences with this type of man before.â
Mandy grinned and patted Cherise on the shoulder. âDonât worry. Iâll take care of this jerk.â
Cherise pressed her lips together. âThank you she whispered.
If it werenât for Mandy, Rodney wouldnât have given up on Lucy. After all, he had chased after her for
over a year before she agreed to be with him-he wouldnât have let her go easily.
âWhy are you thanking me?â Mandy asked rhetorically.
Mandyâs lips curled into a warm smile as she gave Cherise another pat on the shoulder. âYou rescued
me from the fire even though I intended to steal your husband.â
âIâm just glad I could help you and your friend.
Her eyes crinkled in amusement as she looked at Cherise. âI never had any friends. because I was
under someone elseâs control for the past thirteen years.â
âIâm friends with Jessie because S told me she holds grudges and bullies those less powerful than her.â
âI know she would be someone I can count on, so I kept her close.â
âCherise.â
She stared at Cherise with a sincere gaze. âYouâre the first person Iâve wanted to truly be friends with.â
Cheriseâs eyes widened in surprise. âI guess thatâs an honor.â
She didnât care who she was saving from the fire.
She simply didnât want to give up on life.
After all, she was an aspiring doctor.

If she could so easily give up a life, how can she save those in need in the future?
She never thought that Mandy would want to be her friend.
She pressed her lips together as she recalled Damienâs words about having Mandy as her younger
sister.
