Chapter 330
Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 330 Are You up to the Challenge?
Beckham muttered under his breath, âShe was raised in luxury. So how did she end up in a mountain
village?â
Such a coincidence was unlikely.
He took a deep breath and smiled at Cherise. âThat may have been too presumptuous of
me.â
Cherise shook her head vigorously, âItâs fine.â
âItâs my honor to share a resemblance with someone Mr. Tanner used to know.â
They chatted leisurely until Damien steered the conversation back to the main topic.
âMr. Tanner, our reason for coming, aside from celebrating your birthday, is to make a request.â
Beckham chuckled, âLet me guess. Youâre here to find the method to destroy the control chips.â
âI remember you bringing it up once in your letter.â
âUnfortunately, Iâm afraid Iâll have to disappoint you.â
Beckham looked Damien straight in the eyes and said, âYou should know it cost them at pretty penny to
order that many chips from us. All with the expectation that they would be able to make use of the
controlled people after they reach adulthood.â
âNow, after many years of investment and waiting, theyâre about to see the fruits of their labor. And you
want me to tell you how to destroy them?â
âWhat do you think will happen to the Tanner familyâs reputation if I were to tell you?â
Beckham whipped out a cigar and lit it with a flick. âI strongly suggest you give up on the idea, Mr.
Lenoir. No one from the family will tell you how to do that.â
Cherise clenched her hands tightly.
âBut Mr. Tanner, your chip violates basic human rights!â
âMandy was just seven years old when they put the chip in her! She had no choice!â
âYouâre essentially an accomplice in destroying her life!â

âMr. Lenoir, where did you find such an innocent wife? She has no idea how the world. works!â
Damien smirked and held Cheriseâs hand. âCheriseâs kindness is a virtue of hers.â
Beckham laughed. âCan you still call it a virtue when she canât differentiate right from. wrong, nor her
inability to see the world for its cruelty?â
Cherise tightened her fist, leaving crescent marks all over her palms.
Damien chuckled, âOf course, itâs a virtue.â
âPerhaps the lady you mentioned earlier, Mr. Tanner-the one who resembles Cherise, could also be
kind and innocent too.â
âWhat do you think about her, Mr. Tanner?â
Beckham glared at Damien.
Grandpa Tanner, on the other hand, chuckled warmly, âDonât be upset.â
He smiled at Damien, âI was the one who invited you to Beckhamâs birthday banquet. I made Gwenn
send you an invitation.â
âThereâs still some room for compromise on this matter.â
âIn a few days, during Beckhamâs birthday, we will announce a long-kept family secret.â
âThe Tanner family will be indebted to whoever solves the secret for us.â
âWe will grant them the power to request something from us.â
The elderly gentleman stroked his bread and grinned at Cherise and Damien. âWe have our own rules
we need to abide by. Money or connections do little to change our minds.â
âBut itâs a different story if we owe you a favor.â
Grandpa Tanner grinned playfully at Cherise, Little miss, are you up to the challenge?â
Cherise silently considered what he had said. Finding it reasonable, she nodded, âYes!â
