Chapter 43
Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 43 I Donât Think He Works
It suddenly dawned on Cherise. âThatâs right. Youâre friends with the head, Lila.â
She could work here thanks to Ian and Lilaâs good relationship.
Otherwise, how could she have found a wellâpaying job that suited her?
âIan, itâs so late. Did you come to look for Lila?â
She asked with a frown.
Lila was pretty, competent, and intelligent. She should be the type of woman Ian liked.
The manâs hands on the steering wheel froze slightly. âSort of.â
Lila Gurwell had called and asked him out for dinner in the evening, but he turned her down.
âI thought you got off work at seven.â
He had come to wait for her to get off work and had been waiting since seven,
âI just started working, and Iâm unfamiliar with everything.â
Cherise laughed embarrassedly. âLila didnât make me work overtime. Iâm not skilled enough, so I got off
work late.â
Ian smiled. âIâm quite familiar with the work here. If thereâs anything you donât understand, you can call
me and ask.â
Cherise nodded. âThank you, Ian.â
So many years had passed, but Ian was still as gentle and friendly as he was back then.
âWeâve been friends for so many years. I feel like calling me fanâ is very solemn. If you donât mind, you
can call me âE.â
Eâ¦
Such a nickname was too intimate.
Cherise waved her hands. âI think Iâll continue calling you Ian. After all, youâre older than me.â
After that, the car was momentarily silent.
After a long time, lan coughed lightly. âWhy are you working partâtime all of a sudden? Are you in
trouble lately?â
Actually, Ian wanted to ask Cherise this question in the afternoon.
But she stammered and said she wanted to sign up for cooking classes.
She really didnât know how to lie.
She was such a sensible and capable girl. No one would believe that she didnât know how to cook.
âIâm not in trouble.â
She smiled as she denied it.
The man in the driverâs seat asked, âIf you need money, you can tell me. Even though I havenât worked
long, my pay is decent!â
After that, Ian couldnât help but start to show off. âI bought this car with my own money for around two
hundred thousand. All my classmates are jealous of me.â
Cherise looked at him enviously. âAs expected, youâre amazing, Ian.â
âIt would be great if I could be as excellent as you, Ian.â
Ian smiled, pleased with himself. âAs long as you work hard, nothing is impossible.â
âBy the way, Cherise, you havenât told me where youâre staying!â
Cherise quietly told him Swan Lake Chateauâs address.
Ian was in awe for a long time. âSwan Lake Chateau? Is that the exclusive villa area for wealthy
people?â
Cherise nodded. âI donât think thereâs another Swan Lake Chateau, right?â
The astonishment in Ianâs gaze lingered for a long time. âWhat⦠What does your husband work as?â
The villas in Swan Lake Chateau were so expensive that many didnât even dare to imagine living
there.
âI donât think he works.â
Cherise answered honestly. âHe stays at home every day, drinks tea, listens to the news, and chats
with the butler, Mr. Hampson, and the driver, Mr. Kolsonâ¦â
âIs his family rich?â
âI think so.â
Ianâs smile completely froze on his face. âSo you must be⦠quite happy being married to him.â
âHowever.â
Ian furrowed his brows. âSince heâs so rich, why are you working partâtime outside to earn money,
Cherise?â
If the man treats her well, she can act coyly in front of him and ask for money. Since he can stay in
Swan Lake Chateau without working, he must spend his money extravagantly.
Cherise took a deep breath and started to regret telling lan about her personal matters. âHe doesnât
know Iâm working partâtime. I donât want to let him know either.â
