Chapter 579
Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 579 I Did Nothing Wrong
Cherise entered the room with a furrowed brow, placing the condiments she was carrying next to his plate of
pierogis. âItâs getting late. I have work tomorrow, so I wonât disturb you any longer!â
With that, she turned and left.
As she reached the door, something seemed to jog her memory. She spun around, took the access card from her
pocket, and threw it onto the coffee table with a loud thu
âHereâs your card back. Please keep your distance from my children in the future. Thank you!â
And with that, she swiftly exited.
Damien watched her retreating figure, his brows wrinkling in confusion. He couldnât help but wonder, What upset
her?
Just moments ago, she had a pleasant demeanor and even personally prepared condiments for him. Why did her
attitude suddenly change?
He shook his head lightly. Women were unpredictable and difficult to understand.
Cherise was just as erratic and mysterious as the woman who had just called him.
Taking a deep breath, he looked down and continued eating his pierogis.
Although the pierogis were slightly bland, there was no denying that her cooking skills remained unchanged after
five years.
These pierogis were just as delicious as the ones she handmade five years ago.
Damien had missed her cooking so much that he polished off all the pierogis in front of him.
The next morning, Serafina realized that her access card was missing.
The little girl cleverly deduced that her mother had confiscated it.
Serafina sat quietly during breakfast and the car ride to kindergarten. She didnât utter a single word in the back
seat.
On the other hand, Soren was in high spirits.
The boy beamed at Cherise, âMommy, did you sleep well last night?â
Cheriseâs hands froze slightly on the steering wheel. âNot bad.â
âI noticed you werenât home when I woke up to use the bathroom last night.â
Soren blinked at Cherise through the rearview mirror. âWhere did you go, Mommy?â
Her sonâs innocent and earnest expression caused Cheriseâs brows to furrow slightly.
She took a deep breath. âSerafina, do you know what you did wrong?â
Serafina hesitated for a moment and shrunk back in her seat. âI didnât do anything wrong.â
âYou didnât do anything wrong?â

Cheriseâs frown deepened. âYou havenât been eating at home for the past few days. Did you have nice treats at
someone elseâs house instead? Have I ever told you not to simply accept food from others or enter other peopleâs
houses? Do you think I donât know that youâve been sneaking over to someone elseâs house to eat strawberries for
the past few days?!â
Serafina pursed her lips and sat in the corner, looking wronged. âI didnât sneak over. That man invited me.â
âHave I ever told you not to trust strangers easily or accept food from strangers?â
Cherise spoke coldly and harshly, her expression stern.
Iâve spoiled my children. Thatâs why Serafina would do such a thing
Thankfully, it was Damien living across from us this time. What if it were someone else? What if it were someone
with malicious intentions? What would have happened?
Iâve been too lenient as a mother!
Serafina looked aggrieved. âI donât think that man is a stranger.â
âWhy is that?â
As the little girl spoke, she subconsciously glanced at Sorenâs face. âBecause that man looks exactly like Ren. Thatâs
why I donât think heâs a bad person.â
After that, Serafina blinked at Cherise. âMommy, have you seen that manâs face?â
âHe looks exactly like Ren
Cheriseâs brows furrowed deeply.
âEven if he looks exactly like your brother, heâs still a stranger!â
