Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 668 I Wonât Judge You
âCherise.â
Just as Cheriseâs hand touched the car door handle, a deep male voice resonated from
behind.
She paused, but continued to open the door. âI need to go home and rest. We can discuss everything else later.â
As she spoke, Damien firmly grasped the hand she was using to open the door.
He furrowed his brow, gripping Cheriseâs hand with one hand while opening the back passenger seat door with the
other. He immediately helped her into the car.
âIâll drive. Youâre not in the right state of mind. Itâs safer if you donât.â
He promptly settled into the driverâs seat and started the car.
Cherise pursed her lips in the back seat and watched his back. She tried to control her emotions. âIâm not upset.â
âJust because youâre holding back your tears doesnât mean youâre fine.â
Damien sighed softly. His knuckles were prominent as he gripped the steering wheel and set the car in motion. âI
remember that being a doctor has always been your dream. You should know that once what you said at the press
conference gets out, you might never find a job as a doctor again.â
âI know.â Cherise sniffled, looking out of the car window. âIâm fully aware of the consequences of my decision.â
Damienâs frown deepened. âSo why give up? Why wonât you reveal how you injured your hand?â
There was a tinge of tenderness and helplessness in Damienâs deep voice. They had distant that they could no
longer share secrets.
âHonestly, my hand wasnât severely injured.â

Cherise smiled as she gazed out the car window. She replied softly. âIâm just scared. My mom died of heart disease.
My grandma, too, died of heart diseaseâ¦
âThe most important people in my life all succumbed to heart problems. Iâm afraid to step into the operating room,
fearing Iâll remember them and make a mistake I truly lack the mental fortitude for surgery. It has nothing to do
with my injury.

Although she spoke calmly, Damien noticed a hint of panic in her eyes.
It was the distinctive gaze she had after telling a lie. She was never good at lying, not five years ago and certainly
not now.
Damien pursed his lips, wanting to say something. Eventually, he chose to respect her decision. âSince you donât
want to talk⦠so be it. But when youâre ready to talk, remember to tell me first.â
Damien did not take Cherise home but brought her to his presidential suite in the Syatt Hotel.
Upon entering, he whispered a few words to the attendant.
âI thought you would be taking me home.â
Once they entered the suite, Cherise slumped onto the couch as if all her strength had been drained.
âYour house is too small for you to hide your sadness. The kids will notice.â
Damien sighed softly. He sat down next to her and drew her into his arms. âHere, you donât have to pretend. You
can grieve and cry freely. Iâm the only person who wonât judge you, mock you, or force you to hold back your
emotions.â
Cherise pursed her lips. She instinctively tried to wriggle free from his embrace. However, he held her even tighter.
With no other option, she gave in and rested her face against his chest. âIâm not upset, 1â¦â
A knock on the door interrupted her words.
âMr. Lenoir, your wine has arrived.â
Damienâs brow furrowed slightly. âCome in.â
At his word, the attendant entered with several women carrying an assortment of red wines.
