Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 714 Lucyâs New Job
Cherise coughed and sipped her coffee lightly. âIn any case, I donât want him to realize how deeply I care for him
before we officially tie the knot again.â
âI understand.â Lucy sighed. Iâve kept numerous secrets for you. One more wonât make much of a difference.â The
woman picked up her coffee and took a delicate sip. âHowâs the new job?â
Cherise beamed. âItâs pretty good. No one at the institute is concerned about my troubled past, and everyone is
amicable and supportive. Iâve worked for less than a day, but itâs been a positive experience.â
âThatâs reassuring.â Lucy nodded. âGiven your gentle nature, I was concerned you might be taken advantage of.â
âYouâre overthinking!â Cherise chuckled as she picked up the coffee pot and refilled her and Lucyâs cups. âWhat
about you? What kind of a job are you considering after returning to Adania? Should I inquire if the director has an
opening for you?â
âForget it!â Lucy promptly waved her hand. âI canât endure the monotony of sitting in an office all day at the
institute.â She settled into a comfortable position in her seat. âDonât worry about me. An old friend. recommended
me for a job as a private physician.
Lucy felt somewhat pleased when she mentioned her new job. âMy friend said heâs a wealthy bachelor with no
severe illnesses. He just started smoking and drinking a few years ago as he worked late nights. Although the
company is performing well, his health has deteriorated.â
âHe happened to be looking for a private physician and nutritionist, and my friend thought I was a good fit for the
job, so she forwarded my resume to him. I was immediately hired.â
Cherise widened her eyes, somewhat taken aback. âWithout even going for an interview?â
âHe said it wasnât necessary.â Lucy sipped her coffee, âAnyway, it doesnât matter. Perhaps the man was captivated
by my beauty when he saw how young and attractive I am.â
âYouâre so vain.â Cherise rolled her eyes at Lucy. But what if heâs an elderly man captivated by your beauty? What
will you do?â
âNothing. He canât hurt me. I can tolerate him looking at me.â Lucy said as she settled into a comfortable. position
in her chair. âBesides, Iâve already signed the contract. Even if heâs an old grump, I must care for him for a year.â
âIf it wasnât for the lucrative pay, I wouldnât have agreed so readily. My dad is facing financial troubles. recently, and
Iâm his only daughter. I canât just stand by and watch, right? I can earn over half a million by caring for this old
grump for a year. I have no other choice.â
âWhy didnât you tell me your family is having problems?â Cherise pursed her lips while tightly clutching the coffee
cup. âAfter all, Iâm also a part of the Tanner familyâ¦
âEnough.â Lucy waved her hand, âYouâre reluctant to spend the Tanner and Miles familyâs money for yourself. Why
should I burden you?â She glanced at her watch. âItâs about time. I should go meet that old grump. Wish me luck!â
The woman yawned, picked up her handbag, and left.
Cherise stayed in her spot and watched Lucy leave as she sighed softly. As she sat in the coffee shop, she
grew more worried as she pondered, so she dialed Damienâs number. âCan you arrange for someone to safeguard
Lucy?â
âShe signed a one-year agreement with a wealthy man she hasnât met. Iâm afraid he might be someone with
malicious intentâ¦â
There was a prolonged silence on the other end of the phone. After a while, Damienâs deep voice rang.
âThereâs no need for that.â
âWhy not?â
