Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 716 Where Are You Off To?
âGood heavens! Is he going to declare his love?â
âHow utterly romantic!â
Cherise was dumbstruck. When she said she liked his roses in the afternoon, she merely acknowledged the roses he
had previously gifted her
Could this man possibly beâ¦.
âLook! I see something! The entire street to the research institute is filled with trucks delivering roses!â
âGoodness me, itâs true! All the cityâs roses are heading to our institute!â
Cherise was flabbergasted. Heâs here already?!â¦Can I play dead?
âWow! Iâm not seeing things. That lengthy procession is heading towards our institute!â
âGood heavens. Is someone proposing at the institute? This is so lavish and romantic!â
âGoodness, I must capture this moment and share it onlineâ¦â
When Cherise emerged from the restroom, people lined the corridors as they stood by the windows. Her female
colleagues sighed with envy, while her male colleagues observed with detached interest.
Cherise wanted to disappear into thin air. It was only her first day at work, and she already left such a favorable
impression on her colleagues. How am I supposed to face everyone in the future?!
She initially wanted to slip out the back door and head there with her belongings. But by a stroke of luck, she
encountered her supervisor, Mr. Whitlock, who greeted her with a warm smile. âCherise.â
Others might have been oblivious to the roses outside, but not Mr. Whitlock! Damien made a grand gesture on
Cheriseâs first day at the research institute. It sufficed to show that⦠she held a special place in his heart!
Therefore, how could Mr. Whitlock let Cherise slip out the back door unnoticed?
âCherise, what brings you here? Where are you off to?â
Cherise bit her lip and pretended to be unaware of who the roses outside were for. She turned around awkwardly
and lied. âI noticed it was quite hectic outside. Itâs nearly time to clock out, and the main entrance must be
congested, so I thought Iâd exit through the back doorâ¦â
âCherise. Mr. Whitlock looked at Cherise warmly. âWhy donât you join your colleagues and witness the significant
event unfolding outside?â
He spoke gently and kindly, but it made Cheriseâs legs go weak. Her smile was somewhat strained. âTd rather notâ¦
partake in this commotion.â
âBut Cherise,â Mr. Whitlock continued, smiling gently. âItâs not advisable to stand out on your first day at work. You
see, your colleagues are all quite intrigued by whatâs happening, but you seem indifferent. Youâre even attempting
to sneak out the back door. Arenât you being too conspicuous?â
Cherise was dumbstruck. Isnât it normal for a newcomer like me to be conspicuous?

But she didnât dare voice her thoughts and defended herself with a forced smile. âMr. Whitlock, itâs not that Iâm
uninterested in witnessing such a grand spectacle, but⦠I really have some matters to attend to at homeâ¦â
âBut you mentioned in the afternoon that youâre free tonight and available for dinner anytime.â
Cherise was dumbstruck. Alright, I did say that.
But she was merely trying to bridge the gap with her colleagues when she uttered those words. Now that Mr.
Whitlock had brought it up⦠She could only chuckle awkwardly. âIt was inappropriate of me to want to exit through
the back door.â
She took a deep breath and gazed resolutely at the bustling main entrance in the distance. âIâll head there now, Mr.
Whitlock.â
She could only imagine her future at the instituteâ¦.
