Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 729 Mommy, Are You in There?
âIt hasnât been easy for us to be together again. Please donât test me anymore, okay?â The manâs deep voice
instantly softened Cheriseâs heart.
She pursed her lips and snuggled into his embrace. She felt his breath and the rhythm of his heartbeat. âBut Lucy
was merely trying to protect me. You treated me poorly in the past, and she was just concerned that I might get
hurt again.â
âDonât accuse Lucy of making things difficult for you. She wouldnât even try to help if she werenât my friend.â She
looked up. âShe was ultimately just trying to protect me. Just like me. I donât like Lennon when I see him now
because he wasnât kind to Lucy.â
Damien sighed nonchalantly and nodded. âSo, should I join you in giving Lennon a hard time in the future?â
Cherise was taken aback. After a moment, she hugged and kissed him. âDoes it mean youâre no longer upset with
Lucy?â
âI was never upset with her to begin with.â The man ruffled Cheriseâs hair in exasperation. âSheâs just a young girl.
Why would I be upset with her?â
âWeâre the same age. Lucy is my classmate and best friend. Cherise pouted. âIf sheâs a young girl, what does that
make me?â
âGuess.
âI donât want to. In any case, Iâm Mrs. Lenoir, your wife.â Cherise pursed her lips and snuggled into his arms. âIf you
think Iâm too young or immature, it reflects your bad taste!â
Damien chuckled helplessly and stroked her hair. âI have impeccable taste!â
They lay in the room for a long time until a childâs clear voice rang from outside, âMommy, are you in there?â
Cherise was startled. For a moment, she was unsure whether to respond or stay silent. Because the one outside the
door⦠was Soren.
âMommy, donât remain silent. I know youâre in there. Outside, the impeccably dressed boy was knocking. on the
door helplessly. âMommy, Frances has prepared breakfast. Would you like to come out and eat breakfast?â
âAlso, I need your signature on yesterdayâs homework. Weâre both eager to get to kindergarten. Otherwise, we
wouldnât disturb you.â
Cherise was flabbergasted. It wasnât always a blessing for her child to be so sensibleâ¦.
She cleared her throat lightly. âAlright, Soren. Wait for me downstairs. Iâll be down shortly.â
âRen, youâre so clever!â As her voice trailed off, Serafinaâs squeal rang outside the door. âHow did you know
Mommy was in Mr. Handsomeâs room? Iâve been searching for Mommy for ages! Youâre amazing, Ren!â
Sorenâs calm voice rang outside the door. âI didnât even have to think about it.â

âWhy? I donât understand!â
âUmâ¦â Soren cleared his throat, âAhem. Youâll understand when you grow up.â
Cherise exited Damienâs room with flushed cheeks. The two children outside were impeccably dressed. With their
litle backpacks slung over their shoulders, it was as though they were waiting outside the principalâs office as they
leaned against the corridor wall.
Upon seeing Cherise emerge, Soren pursed his lips and winked at Cherise. âYou have no self-restraint, Mommy. You
were won over so easily.â
Cherise blushed.
Serafina quickly ran over and shielded Cherise behind her. âRen, you canât speak about Mommy like that. Mommy
just likes Mr. Handsome, like me!â
Soren rolled his eyes at Serafina in exasperation. âYouâre just as infatuated as Mommy.â
Serafina retorted proudly, âHmph! Our teacher said itâs endearing for girls to be a little infatuated!â
The two childrenâs innocent voices instantly lifted Cheriseâs spirits.
