Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 860 Nocturnal Intrigue
Yolandaâs voice dripped with flirtation in the delicate cocoon of her ear. âDamien, you
mentioned youâd come over once Cherise drifts into slumber. When might that be?â
âIâm a bit weary. When do you think Cherise will doze off?â
âWhy not utilize the sleeping pills youâve prepared? Didnât you prepare them?â
Cherise offered no reply.
She simply listened, her silence a canvas for Yolandaâs monologue, punctuated by soft
utterances of âMm,â âAh,â âOkay.â
âExcellent. Letâs convene at our usual haunt tomorrow!â
Confronted with Yolandaâs buoyant tone, Cherise sighed inwardly, rubbing her temples.
âMs. Weiss.â
Finally, Yolanda exclaimed through the line, âYou areâ¦â
âI am Cherise.â
With the phone nestled in her palm, Cherise sighed again, her brow furrowing.
While she didnât consider her initial âhelloâ particularly loud, it wasnât muted.
If her voice reached Yolandaâs ears, why did Yolanda persist in this charade?
Furthermore, Cherise never fathomed her softened tone, which could mirror Damienâs
deep timbre.
Ms. Weiss knowingly played this game, which is evident in her calculated words.
The intention behind her carefully chosen words was evident.
Summoning a deep breath, Cherise offered a faint smile. âMs. Weiss, I presumed your late
call was in pursuit of an accord regarding the issue of the shares with my husband.â
âAs his spouse, I, too, wish for an amicable resolution.â
âYet, your deliberate choice of words only muddies the waters between you and my
husband.â
âHence, I concur that my husband maintains a distance from you.â

With this declaration, her tone turned icy. âItâs late, Ms. Weiss. Rest well. Perhaps in your
dreams, youâll succeed in winning over your desired quarry.â
Without waiting for Yolandaâs retort, Cherise terminated the call.
Attempting to sow discord between her and Damien with such crude methods?
No way!
âFinished?â
The car door swung open at an indeterminate time. Damien stood outside, exuding the
scent of tobacco and the chill of the night air, a smile gracing his lips. âJust like the
conduct of Mrs. Lenoir.â
Cheriseâs checks flushed crimson. âYou⦠you heard everything?â
âMhmm.â
With a smile, Damien entered the car, closing the door. His imposing frame once again
enveloped Cherise. âMy dear little fool, youâve grown, defending the honor of Mrs. Lenoir.â
Cherise weakly pushed against him. âIâve told you Iâm not a fool!â
âBut in my eyes, youâll always be my dear, my little fool.â
When a shiver coursed through her body, Cherise pouted, poised to retaliate.
In a mix of surprise and anger, she met Damienâs gaze. âDamien!â
âYes, itâs me,â
He replied, lowering his head to plant gentle kisses. âIâll ensure youâre comfortable.â
âDonât fret.â
Cherise remained silent.
Comfort seemed irrelevant at the moment!
âI donât wantâ¦â
âBut your body spoke your desires,â he interjected.
With a smile, he drew her close, their bodies melding together. âFear not, leave it all to

Cheriseâs face flushed crimson, her voice faltering. âYouâre insufferableâ¦â
âYes, youâre always right,â he quipped.
âWho knew Iâd love you so fiercely, yearning to devour you each dayâ¦â
