Chapter 42: Assumptions and Wagers Hunter The next morning, on the way to warrior training, I bump into a ridiculously happy Lucas. âBeta?â I ask but based on the dark circles under his eyes and the fresh mark on his neck, Iâm pretty sure I know why my Betal looks so happy. âIt finally happened, Alpha. Kins finally gave herself to me, and holy f**g s**t. I had no idea it could be that good.â I smile at my Beta. Itâs good to see him this happy and to know that what I saw in Kinsley yesterday extended to their relationship. âIâm not exactly an expert, but I can tell you that after just a few days, it gets better and better every day.â I say. âSeriously?â âSeriously. Where is your mate?â âSleeping. I wore her out,â he says smugly. âIâm sure that will continue for a long time, so she better get used to working on little to no sleep.â I tell him as we step outside. I take the time to address our warriors and explain that we have some new faces from Alpha Carterâs pack to assist us until we 111 can begin to rebuild our packâs defenses and update our patrol schedule. After that, I pair Carterâs warriors with mine and watch to see how good they actually are. Iâm not sure if Beta Matthew sent me his best warriors, or if they are all this good, but itâs a testament to his pack and their training that his warriors are able to easily keep up with mine. As with all packs, methods of training and techniques vary, so l talk to Lucas about having Carterâs warriors rotate in to lead the morning training and teach our warriors some new fighting methods. The more prepared we are for battle, the better. After training, I head inside, happy to see my mate talking to our pack members and getting to know
them. I havenât given her much time to do that other than her Luna ceremony. I walk up behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist. âCan I join you for breakfast?â I ask her. âAbsolutely not,â she says, surprising me and turning to look at me with her hand on her hips. âDid I do something wrong?â âWhy didnât you wake me for warrior training?â I smile down at her. âI thought you might be tired after last night,â I say, knowing that the entire room is watching our exchange. She might want to think twice about making a scene in the future. Her cheeks redden and she suddenly realizes that we have an audience. âItâs not because Iâm a woman?â she asks. 10.17% 11:51 Chapter 43: Assumptions and Wages 288 Voucher âDid you not tell me that you were able to withstand Alpha Owenâs Alpha command?â I ask her. I hear the murmurings of the group. Itâs good to remind our pack that their Luna is an Alpha wolf. âYes, but what does that have to do with fighting?â she asks. âWhy would I keep one of the strongest wolves in our pack from training unless I thought she needed her sleep?â She presses her lips together and looks down. âI want to start. training, no matter how little sleep Iâve had,â she says, a bit sullenly. âFine, then no complaints when I keep you up until the wee hours of the morning because youâre begging me for more,â I say, leaning in so only she can hear the last part. Now her cheeks turn a deep shade of red and I run my knuckles over her cheek, feeling the heat. âI love your passion, by the way. You should make sure itâs directed properly, though. Now, will you have breakfast with me? Iâd like to talk to you about our next steps.â âYes,â she says, lifting up on her toes and kissing me softly. âSorry for jumping to conclusions.â âWe both still have a lot to learn about the other. But I promise. you, until you are carrying my pup, I
would be thrilled for you to attend warrior training. As a matter of fact, I told Lucas to have your fatherâs warriors start training ours so we can learn the different techniques. Maybe you could stand in as trainer as well.â âIâm a bit out of practice. I think Iâd like to go through a couple of 23.984. 111 11:51 training classes first, see how much I remember and how out of practice I am before I begin training others,â she says, looking like she expects that sheâll be starting over. She wonât. Sheâs an Alpha and it will all come back quickly. Sheâs only been out of training for two years and if her father started her at ten, like most Alphas, she had six years before she stopped training. âLetâs see how you do tomorrow. Iâll spar with you and see what you remember and how good your reflexes are. Deal?â âDeal,â she says, going through the buffet and piling food on her plate. Iâm glad to see sheâs eating a decent amount of food. Iâm hoping sheâll put on some weight soon. âHow about we add a little wager to out sparring, to make it fun,â I say quietly. She glances at me from the corner of her eye, but I see the tips of her mouth tip up. âWhat kind of wager?â she asks, and I can tell sheâs excited at the idea of a competition. Sheâs such an Alpha. I love it. âHow about the winner gets to pick our sexual positions that night,â I say in her ear. I feel her body shiver with my words, or maybe itâs my breath against her ear, Iâm not sure but her mouth spreads into a very satisfied smile. âAll of them?â she asks, knowing weâll be having sex more than once each night. âAbsolutely.â âYouâre on, Alpha,â she says. 38.57% 11:51
Chapter 42 Assumptions and Wagers 288 Wouchers Pleased, I finish gathering my own food and the two of us head to a table where Kinsley and Lucas are eating. I notice they are talking quietly, and Kinsley is blushing similarly to how Sophie was blushing a few moments ago. âMind if we join you?â I ask. Sophie had already put her tray down but stops and looks form them to me. âOh, did you want some privacy?â she asks. âNo, no, we were justâ¦talking,â Kinsley says, blushing a deeper shade of red. âBased on the color of your cheeks, Iâd say your mate was talking to you about the same things that mine was talking to me about,â Sophie says, smiling at Kinsley before smirking up at me. I just shake my head and sit down. I look at Kinsley. âAre we good after yesterday?â âYes, Alpha. I wonât disappoint you again.â I lean forward, holding her gaze. âYou didnât disappoint me, Kinsley. I just wanted to see you rise to the Beta that I know your can be. I think youâve found yourself and Iâm proud of you.â She smiles, looking down, this blush a lighter shade than the one Lucas elicited. He leans in and kisses the side of her head. âI told you,â he says to her softly. I give her a minute to collect herself, checking to make sure my mate is eating, then focus. âSo, today, I want to invite Alphas Kayce and Robin for dinner. It needs to be soon and if they arenâ 11:51 t willing to make the trip, then Iâm going to see if Sophie and I can travel to see them. If that happens, you two will be in charge. again. I know Iâm asking a lot during a time when things are up in the air, but⦠âWe understand, Alpha. Weâre your Betas for a reason, right Kins?â Lucas says. âAbsolutely, Alpha. We will manage the pack and protect them as you would if the need arises.â âIâm not expecting an attack, but am expecting to get a notice that the two of us have to come
before the Committee of Alphas. However, that doesnât mean that one or more of the Alphas wonât consider our pack weak knowing we lost some pack members recently, and depending on where they ended upâ¦â âActually, I found out that Koden ended up with Alpha Owen,â Lucas says. âWorst possible scenario,â I grumble. âIf we do get attacked, that will be who leads it.â âAgreed. I also heard that Owen has taken a fancy to one of the younger she-wolves who left our pack.â I frown. âWho?â âBrooklyn. Leah and Michaelâs daughter.â âThe laws havenât changed. He canât publicly claim an omega,â I say. Lucas stares at me. I glance at Sophie. Right. I went against our 65.23% 11 200 Vouchers laws, so whatâs to keep Owen from going against them as well. âIf they come back, interview them, make sure you feel comfortable letting them back into the pack. At the very least, weâll give Brooklyn a safe place to live,â I say. âLeah didnât want to leave either. It was Michael who chose to leave,â Kinsley says. I nod. If Owen sets the precedent and the others follow in his footsteps, things could escalate even quicker than they will with just Sophie being involved. âWe need to start letting the she-wolves know that we have a safe place for them here,â I say. âWe started that yesterday, Alphaâ Kinsley says, smiling. âAnd thatâs why you two are my Betas,â I say, watching as Sophie pushes her plate away. Itâs only half empty. âSophie?â âI canât eat anymore. I thought I could, but I canât. If I do, I wonât be able to move,â she says. I want her to eat more, sheâs barely eating enough to support a human, much less a werewolf. âYour stomach probably shrank while you were gone and if you werenât training, you wouldnât have been burning the calories that you normally would in a pack. If that doesnât work, weâll have to find other activities to burn calories,â I say, winking at Sophie and making her blush again. After breakfast, I head to my office, leaving Sophie with Kinsley to begin walking through what she does with the pack. Before I call Kayce and Robin, I check my email. One in particular catches my eye and I open it. âYou are hereby ordered to appear in front of the Committee of Alphas one week from today at 9am. Your mate, Sophie Meyers, is required to attend as well to address the issue of you attempting to install your mate as your Luna without going through the proper protocols. If you fail to appear before the Committee, you will be renounced as an Alpha and your title and pack will be removed from you, with force, if necessary.â One week. I have one week to get the remaining three Alphas on board. I pick up the phone and dial Kayceâs number. 10.07%
