Chapter 15
âMaria Greenwood!â the man shouted.
Maria was startled by a sudden roar, causing her whole body to tremble. The blanket that was covering her was forcefully yanked away from her.
When she opened her eyes and saw the man glaring furiously at her, she thought his inkâblack eyes were capable of devouring her.
Shocked and belatedly realizing that they were on the same bed, the knowledge terrified her. She involuntarily leaped up at once, falling off the bed without meaning to.

The pain from the fall woke Maria up fully. She couldnât believe her eyes as she looked at the man sitting on the bed, glaring at her with a fierce expression. His short hair was slightly messy, a clear sign that he had just woken up.
Her mind was in a mess. âWhy is Frank there?â she wondered.
âMaria, who gave you permission to come in?â Frank stared at her ominously as though she was no better than trash.
âThis woman was indeed quite scheming. She sneaked into my bed at midnight while I was under the influence of sleeping pills, he thought.
âIâI thought you were in the bedroomâ¦â It was at that moment that Maria understood what happened. Frank wasnât in the bedroom. He was in the guest room.
She was too tired yesterday and didnât notice.
But what about him? Why hadnât he noticed her come in?
âYou thought?â Frank narrowed his eyes in displeasure. He emitted a cold aura, making Maria shiver involuntarily. âYou thought I would sleep where you are? Maria, Iâve told you not to play tricks on me. It seems you havenât learned your lesson!â
Maria stiffened, feeling suddenly nervous. A sense of foreboding crept over her.
Biting her lip, she explained frightfully, âI truly didnât know⦠it was your bedroomâ¦â
Frank snorted. He mocked, âDo you think I would believe you?â
Maria knew very well that no matter how she explained, Frank wouldnât believe her.
Like everyone else, they didnât believe her when she denied pushing Nina.
Everyone thought she was jealous and plotted against her halfâsister.
She bit her lower lip in misery. âEven if you donât believe me, I still need to make it clear. I had no idea you were here, and I didnâtâ¦â
âEnough!â Frank interrupted Maria before she could finish. His eyebrows were tightly furrowed. âDonât pretend to be so innocent. I know what kind of person you are. Now get out of here!â
Maria stopped speaking. She got up and walked towards the door with her head down.
Frankâs voice sounded again from behind. âHold on!â
Maria froze. She turned around, looking at the man who had just gotten out of bed and was glaring at her with impatience.
âTake everything you touched and wash them,â he spoke sternly. He walked toward the bathroom without another look.
Maria stood there, overwhelmed with embarrassment. When Frank entered the bathroom and noticed she hadnât moved,

he frowned. âWhat? Do you intend to stay and watch me shower?â
Maria heard what he said and got a move on at once. She stripped the bed of the covers and, carrying them, headed to the door.
Once outside, Maria didnât know where the laundry room was or where to clean these items.
Just as she was about to find a servant to ask, she saw a maid dressed in uniform approaching.
The maid, Paige, looked familiar to Maria. It seemed she had seen Paige taking care of her when she woke up the previous day.
Paige saw Maria walk towards her. She was surprised. âMiss Greenwood, youâre awake?â
Hearing Paige call her âMiss Greenwood,â Maria felt somewhat relieved. Compared to being called âMrs. Johnston,â she preferred others to call her âMiss Greenwood.â
âMiss Greenwood, thereâs something Iâd like to ask for your help with.â Before Maria could speak, Paige spoke first.
