Chapter 26
Maria cried in her dreams, âI didnât push or drug anyone! I didnât do anything!
However, no one trusted her. She kneeled in the living room and endured her fatherâs whippings and her stepmotherâs slaps. She also had to confront Frankâs distrust and
vengeance.
Everyone thought Maria was the most wicked woman in the world and wished she could be the one falling down the stairs.
Everyone was convinced that Maria had destroyed the brilliant future that Nina was supposed to have. They hated Maria deeply because Nina, as a gentle and kind young lady, should never have experienced all those.
Maria shouted inwardly, âBut what about my life? Who ruined my life?â
The old memories were like a nightmare, rooting in the deepest corner of Mariaâs head and refusing to leave.
The endless and unbearable pain wrapped around Maria like a relentless vine, refusing to wither until it had drained the very life from her.
Frank had never seen Maria being like that. She was helpless, desperate, and sorrowful, like a small animal seeking the hope of living at the edge of death.
âIt wasnât me.â
Frank had heard this sentence so many times that he could imagine Mariaâs expression when she said that. However, he ignored her every time.
After all, Ninaâs mother accused Maria of pushing Nina down the stairs. There was evidence and witnesses, leaving Maria with no opportunity to defend herself.
However, Frank began to waver in his opinion of Maria, thinking, âDid she do it?â
âDing.â The message notification interrupted Frankâs thoughts. It was from his phone on the night table.
Frank picked up the phone and saw the message from Chloe. She asked him to take Maria over for lunch.
Frank raised his head and looked at the woman on the bed who was sleeping uneasily. Then, he quickly typed a line of texts with his slender finger, clicked send, and put his phone back on the night table.

Chapter 26
Maria stopped her sobbing. Instead, she screamed and flung her arms in the air, trying to grab something. âMom! Mom! Wake up. Please donât leave me. Momâ¦â
Frank frowned and reached out to push Maria to wake her up, saying, âMaria, wake up.â
Maria sensed someone was pushing her in her dream. She grabbed Frankâs hand and begged, âDoctor. Please save my mom. Iâm begging you. Please save herâ¦
Tears started running out of her eyes and into her hair. She seemed not to notice it. She tightly grabbed Frankâs big hand and did not let go.
Frank got annoyed by Mariaâs touch and frowned. He tried to retrieve his hand but found Mariaâs grip was surprisingly tight.
Maria choked up and continued her begging, âPlease save my mom. I canât live without her, Iâll request a loan to pay the medical billâ¦â
Frank frowned more tightly, but his impatience disappeared a lot.
He was aware that Mariaâs mother had fallen ill, slipped into a coma, and was undergoing treatment at the hospital, but he did not know Maria cared about her mother so much.
Frank fell silent, his lips tightened into a line, thinking, âShe can be jealous of others and play dirty, but she seems she will never do something to her mother. It looks like she hasnât lost all of her virtues.â

Maria slept soundly and went through all her memories in her dreams.
Thus, she felt even more tired when she woke up.
