Chapter 12: Chapter Eleven-

Best Friends with the Player ✔️ (The Player #1)Words: 7483

The day I figured out that I liked Daemon brought on myriads of emotions. I was confused, devastated, shocked, outraged and near tears. I felt like I was PMS'ing.

That day had nothing on today.

"Whhhaaaat?!" I snapped at Jesse, taking a step back from him. "What do you mean?" I looked at warrily. Did he, by chance lik-?

"Oh, banish the thought Marie," Jess interupted my thought process. "I do not like you. Nor will I ever like you and have I never liked you, both ways. I have standards."

I glared at him, pissed beyond reasonableness. You would be too if a guy just called you ugly in a sort of roundabout way.

"You're no Abercrombie model yourself, jackass." I hope he didn't hear my voice shake.

The smirk on his face proved my nightmare true. "Oh, we both know you're lying Marie. Actually, I would say that I'm on a different level entirely."

"Oh go kill yourself Jesse and end the earth's suffering of your presence."

"That hurts Marie." He put on a pained expression. "Anyways moving on. Like I said, I need you to fall for me."

Again, the words catch me off guard. "W-what do you mean?"

He walked towards me, one step then pause than another. "I mean, I need you to be my girlfriend, Marie."

My eyes widened exponentially.

"Your girlfriend?" Those words sent chills down my spine.

He nodded. "A fake one of course." His lips tugged up forming a half smile. "So what do you say?"

"Why?"

"Because, as I said, I need entertainment in this boring as hell town. You seem to be hilariously making a fool out of yourself whenever loverboy is around so why not? I get my entertainment and you get my unwavering silence."

"But why be your girlfriend? You can watch the entertainment just by hanging around."

He took another step, and leaned in, his warm yet minty breath hitting me as he entered my personal space. "Because... I like you."

My breath caught, heart racing as if it was running a marathon as I watched him.

He stared back at me, leaning in.

My thoughts were in a disarray. Is he going to kiss me? What if he did? What should I do? Should I kiss him back?

Instead he leaned in to my ear, his warm breath enveloping my ear, which should be red by now, blushing. He paused and whispered, his warm breath tickling my ear, "At least that's what I want everyone to believe."

I break out of my reverie. Had I wanted to kiss him, or wanted him to kiss me?

Nah, I was definitely to caught up in the moment. Stupid Santana.

"So... deal or no deal?" Jesse asked. He was now sitting on his huge bed.

"What's in it for me?"

"My silence."

"That's all?"

He smirked. "And... Daemon."

"How can you promise Daemon?" I dared him to lie.

He smiled, looking like he knew I'd ask that. "Have you ever heard of the quote, 'A man wants what he can't have.'?"

I nodded.

"There you go. Once Daemon thinks we're together, his possessive nature will take control and he'll finally look at you. He won't take you for granted anymore."

"Yea... but what if it backfries? What if he'll think I'm happy with you, then he'll let me go."

"Hmm... fifty-fifty chance then."

I shook my head. "No deal."  And before he could retaliate I was out the door and heading towards Jenny's room.

* * *

"Okay, so I'll be back as soon as I talk to Daemon, okay?" I told Jenny as we walked into Dave's house.

"Let me come with," she volunteered.

"No. I need to do this alone, Jenny. Sorry."

She looked at me, sullen, "Okay."

With a smile directed at her, I walked off in search of my bestfriend.

I passed Jesse, who looked bored out of his mind as he watched drunken make out sessions.

"Seen Daemon?"

He shook my head.

I turned to walk off when I felt him grab my hand. I glared at him.

"You might wanna turn down the hatred, love. I am the one with the upperhand here. So, in light of that fact, I'm giving you til tomorrow to rethink your response and give me the correct answer." He smiled like he was doing me a favour.

I ripped my hand out of his grip. "I'm not changing my mind, you sicko!"

He laughed delirously. "What do you have to lose? You're the one gaining here. I'm the hot one!"

"Yes, because having such a big ego is such a turn on." With that, I turned and went off to continue my search.

Finding Daemon in a party this size required finding either Josh, Dave or other of his mindless lackeys.

Once I found them, I found Daemon soon after, in one of Dave's spare room.

"Daemon," I called out, knocking on the door softly.

I heard sounds on the other side.

"Santana..." I heard my name and instantly I smiled.

He must've drunk himself senseless and had been disposed off here by one of his friends.

I opened the door, caught totally off-guard when I saw him on top of a dark haired brunette on the bed, his kisses trailing down her neck.

In my years of attending this parties with Daemon I had walked in on my fair share of lust induced moments in bedrooms, but never had I walked in on it being between Daemon and some other girl.

He had a tattoo on his shoulder that looked liked a snake forming a letter 'S' but i couldn't really make it out properly. I hadn't even known he'd gotten a tattoo.

How much did I not know about him?

"...I love you."

The words filled the room and hit me hard enough to stagger back from the shock.

What?

Did he just say he loved that girl? Who was she? Did I know her?

The lyrics of Taylor Swift's 'Teardrop on my Guitar' ran through my head.

I tried to make out the girl's face. I tried to see the girl who got Daemon Matthews to fall for her.

But they were too into each other that they didn't notice me.

Tears ran down my face. I lost him, even before I put up a fight.

Turning around, I closed the door behind me and ran away from it. The tears dampered my sight and a lot of peope paid for it when I ran into them, hard.

The last one I hit placed strong hands on myshoulders. I lifted my head, tucking the hair away from my face and smiled at my victim.

Jesse, of course.

"Hey Marie, watch where you're..." His eyes paused on my face, "What did he do to you?" He felt around my body, pulling back the sleeves on my shirt, and checking for bruises. "Did he hurt you physically?"

I shook my head. "Daemon will never hurt me!" I glared at him for saying such a stupid thing.

He trailed a finger down my face, wiping away the tears. "You sure about that?"

"Just let me go already. I need out of here!" I shrugged off his hands only to have him interlock our fingers together. "What are you doing?"

"Escorting you. Knowing you, you might disappear tonight and never come back. I wanna be there when you make those rash decisions."

I looked at him confused as he began leading us out of the party.

He made sure that Jenny would get a ride home, before taking me on a drive to the Cliff.

I always liked coming up here. The view of the town below, and the Milky Way on full display above.

"So what happened?" Jesse asked as we parked.

"I don't wanna talk about it," I muttered, exhausted from crying the entire ride over.

He didn't push for an answer. I liked him a little more than I did before, which wasn't much.

"I'm up for some payback, what about you?" I said to Jesse, determined of the plan I was orchestrating on the ride over.

"What?"

"Fifty-fifty. I think it's worth a try."

"So you up for it?" He asked.

I nodded.

"You know what that means, right?" He leaned in.

"Yeah. I'm officially your fake girlfriend," I smiled at him.

"And that we need to make up for lost time, Marie," he said, a smug look on his face.

And a second later, he leaned in and kissed me.
