My eyes widened exponentially.
Any normal person would have dove down or hid behind the curtains.
But then again, we can all agree I strayed from the norm a little too many times.
So what did Santana Klaus do?
I waved. I freaking waved at the half naked male that stood by his window staring back at me.
And what did said halfnaked male do?
He waved back!
And no! I think it important to state to you that no, this was in no way normal, one person waving at the other person when the other person caught them oggling them and that person waving back!
This was definitely not normal.
My phone vibrates on top of my dresser.
I rush over and glance at the screen.
The said half-naked male was calling me.
I glance over to his room.
He'd disappeared from view.
My heart beats hard in my ears as I slid my fingers across the screen to answer the phone.
"Uhm, hello?" I answer, my voice sounding to timid, I clear my throat before repeating, "Hello?" With a more steady tone.
"Hey," he said, "enjoyed the show?"
My face reddened instantly. "Uh..."
"You're blushing, aren't you?"
"Goodbye, Jesse," I move to hang up the phone, before I hear him call out for me to hang on.
"What?" I asked.
"I...need to talk Marie," he said, his voice sounding pitiful suddenly.
"Now?" I asked. I glanced over to the wall clock above my vanity. 12:49
"Please, Marie."
"Fine. I'll be down in a sec," I replied, before hanging up, knowing he'd already be waiting outside.
I shrugged on a sweater over my floral pink singlet and just slipped into sweatpants over my mini pyjama bottoms.
I opened the door slowly, hoping no one noticed me slipping out.
Dad was a light sleeper.
I tiptoed across, heading towards the staircase.
The loose floorboard protests quite loudly as I step on it!
Disloyal piece of wood!
I pray and hope no one heard me, despite the impossibility of it.
After seconds of no sound I celebrate.
I continue walking, just reaching the top of the staircase when the door to my parents room opens.
Shit!
"San?" My dad appears by the doorway. He sounds surprised.
After all I was known to drop as soon as I fell on the bed and even an atomic bomb couldn't wake me up.
"Hey dad," I said, hoping to sound happy to see him.
"What you doing up?"
I ran through all the plausible excuses in my head but at reaching none, I decided to go with the truth. "Uhmm, Jesse wants to, uh... talk. So I was going out to see him," I replied, crossing my fingers.
"Oh," he rubs the sleep out of his eye. "Well, okay."
Wait, what?
He notices my confusion. "The boys needs to talk. Judging by the way he stomped out of the party after grabbing the wine today, you guys need to sort this mess out."
I nodded. That made sense, I guess. "Well, okay then."
"But, I hope you guys know how much I trust you two. I hope its only talking you'll be doing?" He smirked.
"Gosh! Dad! Obviously. Don't start with the whole sex talk, please."
He smiled. "I don't want to be a granddad so soon honey, I hope you and Jesse know that."
"Daaaad," I sighed.
"Okay, okay. Don't keep the poor boy waiting. And hurry back in, okay honey. Its too cold outside."
I nodded before heading down the stairs and out the door.
Jesse was already waiting outside, leaning against his BMW, wearing great sweatpants and a NYU hoodie.
He looked up at the sound of the door closing behind me.
"I thought you said you'll be a sec," he complained.
"Dad woke up and asked me where I was going," I replied.
"Oh. What else did he say?"
"Uhm," I felt my face heat up at what dad said after that.
"What was it?" He sounded playful for the first time since the party.
"Nothing."
"You know I'm gonna nag you until you tell me."
"Fine," I said, knowing he would. "He said he wasn't ready to be a grandad."
Jesse's smile turned into a frown. "Well, good luck with that," he said before he looked withdrawn and turned his head to the heavens.
Silence dawned as I came to stand beside him and leaned against his car.
"What did you wanna talk about?" I asked, after minutes of silence and the cold slipping into me.
"Its beautiful, isn't it?" He said, ignoring my question completely.
"What is?"
"Look up," he said.
I did. "Yeah," I agreed.
For a few minutes we enjoyed the night sky and the millions upon millions of stars.
"I submit," he said suddenly.
"What?" I asked, confused.
What was he talking about?
"I give up," he elaborates. "I get it now. You love Matthews and what you feel for me is the furthest thing from what you feel for him. I get it."
Oh!
"So?" I asked.
"So, I'm saying, let's be friends. I know when I've lost the fight. I don't like playing against losing chances and I know Daemons the one for you."
I stared at him for minutes. Didn't he know how I felt? He was very sure days ago that I liked him and now... he thought I didn't!
Tell him, you love him, you idiot!
"Say something, Marie."
I simply stared at him.
He was giving up? Without even putting up a fight?
"Jesse, I..."
"You don't have to try to comfort me, Candy Canes. I get it. I accept it. I am moving on."
He was moving on?
Fine!
"Okay then. I'm glad you get it finally." No you don't! You idiot! "I think its for the best!" No its not! The lies spewed out uncontrollably.
He doesn't like me anymore. I guess that's what you get when you don't appreciate what you have!

As I lay back against my bed what felt like centuries later, I sighed, before a tear rolled down my face.
So this is what its like to have you heart split in two
