Chapter 25 Mike Tells Melandaâs Mom His Feelings
Mikeâs POV
I had a good sleep. When I woke up, I felt that my mind had cleared up a lot. I remembered what my mother had said. âBaby, you have to be brave. You must not lose Melanda again.â
Yes, I definitely couldnât lose her again. I had already wasted so much time.
Around seven, I arrived at Aunt Annieâs house. I promised Millie I would come to see her. As soon as I entered the house, Millie ran toward me. âDaddy, youâre here!â The way she called me Daddy was so pleasant. I hugged my little angel.
âBaby, whereâs your mother? Why donât I see her?â
âMom went on a date.â
âWhat?â My head thumped and I was stunned. âShe went on a date. She went on a date,â I muttered.
âYeah, Mom went on a date with Leo.â Millie didnât sense my abnormality and was still reporting to me.
Aunt Annie came over and took Millie from me. âBaby, didnât you want to watch a cartoon for a while?â Millie was distracted and left me to watch television.
Aunt Annie saw my distraught look and walked over to say, âMike, are you okay? Come sit down.â
I sat on the sofa and covered my face with my hand.
I heard Aunt Annie asking me, âMike, whatâs wrong?â
âMelanda went on a date with someone else.â
âYes, whatâs wrong with that? Why do you have such a strong reaction? Melanda should have a life of her own, right? Sheâs only 24.â
âBut I can make her happy, and sheâs happy with me. She canât date anyone else,â I couldnât help but say.
âBaby, do you know what youâre saying?â Aunt Annie continued to ask.
âAunt Annie, Iâm sorry. I should have told you sooner.â I planned to be honest with Aunt Annie. âActually, Iâve always liked Melanda. Iâve liked her since a long time ago. I love her a lot,â I said as I observed Aunt Annieâs reaction.
Aunt Annie looked shocked. Her mouth dropped open. The expression on her face was strange. It looked like a smile, but there were tears in her eyes. This reaction was familiar. It was like my motherâs reaction. I stood up and walked to her, then I squatted down.
âAuntie, whatâs wrong? Why are you crying?â
âIâm fine, baby. Iâm good. Iâm just so happy. You finally realized your feelings. Iâm so happy. You really love her, right?â she said with a smile as she cried.
âYes, Auntie. I love her more than I think. I canât live without her. But what should I do? Sheâs already gone on a date with someone else.â The thought of Melanda dating someone else right now was torturous to me.
âIâm really happy for you, Mike. Itâs okay. You have to be patient with her. Sheâs been through a lot and suffered a lot. The burden sheâs carrying is too heavy. Give her some time and let her tell you the truth herself.â The truth? What truth? Aunt Annieâs words confused me.
But I didnât have time to think so much. It was enough as long as Auntie didnât stop me from pursuing Melanda. I stood up, found my phone, and sent Melanda a message. I wanted her to know I was waiting for her at home. Jealousy was making me impatient.
I knew it was childish of me to interrupt Melandaâs date, but I couldnât control myself. At first, Melanda even replied to me. Fortunately, she was still worried about Millie. Later, she saw me flirting with her and ignored me.
When they finally returned and Leo left, I asked eagerly,
âI was right, wasnât I? Leo is into you. So did you agree to him?â
Melanda looked at me intently. âMike, donât you think youâre acting strange tonight? What position are you in to be jealous? My brother? Iâve grown up. Iâm not a little girl anymore. I have my own sense of judgment.â
âNo, Iâm not your brother. I like you. Iâm dying of jealousy!â I shouted in my heart, but I controlled myself. I couldnât scare her. I couldnât lose her again.
âBaby, Iâm a man. I know how men think. Leo is too young. So many young girls in the office like him. Iâm afraid youâll be hurt by him.â I was telling the truth. Leo was very popular with young girls in the office.
âOkay, I donât want to discuss this with you anymore. Iâm tired. Thank you for watching Millie for me. Now that Iâm back, you can go home and rest.â Melanda didnât seem to want to continue the topic.
âBaby, I just want you to know that Iâll always be with you.â Before I left, I hugged her. This beautiful little angel was too charming tonight. I couldnât take my eyes off her. Even so, I had to say goodbye.
