*Avery's POV*

Seeing Josh and Emma getting in a car together really upset me. I don't know why. Emma's my best friend. I should be happy for her.
After an hour of just sitting there on my bed staring at the wall and think of all the reasons I can to hate Josh, I finally get up and get my laptop from my desk.
After scrolling through Netflix, I finally decide to watch Gossip Girl. Chuck and Blair's relationship is so adroable but so confusing. I pause the show and go downstairs to make some popcorn.
"Is she okay?" I hear my mother say.
"Where?.... Okay. I'll just have to tell Avery. We'll see you soon." My mother says and hangs up.
"Mom, who was that?" I ask her as I head into the kitchen and take out a bowl.
"That was Emma's mom." My mother says, cautionally.
"Oh, what did she want?" I ask as I place the popcorn inside the microwave.
"Avery, Emma's been in a car accident." My mom says.
My heart races and my stomach drops 6 feet under. And if my best friend dies, so will she.
Tears fill my eyes and I choke up. "What?" I manage to say.
"Sweetie, I really don't want to repeat it." My mother says quietly.
"Can we go visit her?" I ask quietly.
"Let's go. Let me just go get my purse." My mom says and she runs upstairs. I quickly follow and put on some boots and a cardigan and run downstairs. The microwave beeps and I remembered that I put in the popcorn. I take it out and set it on the counter and my mom finally comes down. We quickly go outside and get into the car and drive to the hospital.
The entire drive there, I listen to music and look out the window. My leg is bouncing up and down and my hands are fidgeting. My mom squeazes my shoulder and all I do is listen to one of the few songs Josh showed me and I liked.
~ flashback ~
We had just finished making out, again, and we were just laying in our backs, laying beside each other and looking up at the stars.
"Avery, I wanna show you something." Josh says as he takes out his phone from his pocket.
"Please, no dick pics" I say sweetly but joking around.
He laughs and says "No, it's a song. One of my favorites." I raise my eyebrow "Josh, I don't know. Every time you show me a song, I end up hating it. Like, that band. Black Veil Sirens?"
"It's Black Veil Brides and Sleeping With Sirens. Two completely different bands. I will murder you if you don't get them right next time." He says and I laugh. "Besides, I really think you'll like the song." He says again and I roll my eyes. "Finee! Enlighten me." I told him and he grins.
"This song is by Evanescence. It's called Bring Me To Life. And it's fucking awesome. I fucking love it and it's fucking addicting as weed. And besides, Amy Lee, the leader singer, is hot as fuck!" Josh says and hands me the earbud.
I put it in and listen to it.

The song finishes and Josh looks over at me. "Well?" He asks and I take my time to answer it. To be honest, I loved it. Sure, it was different from what I was used to listening to but it was actually good. "It was alright." I said.
"Yeah, right. You're probably obsessed with it now." Josh said, laughing.
"Shut up" I said and then I kissed him.
~ flashback over ~
Me and my mom rush into the hospital and Emma's parents are already there, nervously pacing back and forth.
"Avery!" Emma's younger brother says when he see's me. I blush and go over to hug him. Technically, he was only a year younger than us, but still. He was tall and muscular and well, hot.
"Oh, Avery, thank you so much for coming." Emma's mom, Natallie, says to me as she pulls me into a hug.
"Where else would I be?" I told her, wiping my eyes.
"Family of Emma Branch?" a young women doctor says and we all rush to her.
"Well, you all are quite lucky. She has a broken leg and a few brusied ribs. She should heal quickly and tomorrow she can go home." The doctor says ad we all sigh in relif.
"Do any of yall know Josh Redfern?" The doctor asks and nobody says anything.
"Yeah, he's my best friend." I say, catching everyone off guard.
"Well, usually, these news are off limits to friends but you seem to be the only one here for him. He has a broken arm and leg. And he has a broken rib. He's actually awake, would you like to see him?" The doctor asks and I nod.
"Okay, follow me." The doctor says and I follow her.
We turn the corner and she points to the room. "Thank you." I said and she nods.
I knock and then open the door. "Josh?" I ask and Josh looks up from his phone. Tears are in his eyes and he wipes them away. "Hey" he says, and his voice sounds hoarse.
"You okay?" I ask and then mentally slap myself. Of course he's not. He has a broken arm, leg and rib.
"Well, I can't text with both hands so it's taking a while to get used to it. And my rib is killing me and my leg is broken. My brother has been calling me non-stop and when I finally answered, it turns out he was on his way home cause he got scared and I just- urgh. Look at me. I'm acting like a fucking girl." Josh said, wiping his eyes again.
"Look, it's okay. Well, it's not okay, but. I'm here, if you need anything." I tell him and I come closer to him.
"How's Emma? Does she hate me?" Josh says and I shake my head.
"She's okay. She has a broken leg and a few bruised ribs. And I wouldn't know. I haven't visited her." I say and I sit on the corner of him bed.
"Avery, can you stay with me? Hospitals don't have the best memories for me." Josh says and I stand up and move his hair from his forehead and place a kiss on it.
"Of course. I'll always be here for you." I say and he smiles.
