Chapter 47: A Proposition

*Josh's POV*

My eyes look around the airport and I can't help but sigh. Of course my parents didn't come pick me up, they have better things to do; obviously. I roll my luggage cart and wait for a cab, once inside I look at the scene unfolding in front of my eyes and sigh. I hope being back in North Carolina will be better, because being in California made me get closure. That's something I needed, desperately. Almost too quickly, the cab arrives at my house and after paying, I unlock the door and step inside. The house feels different and cold. I guess my parents are home, for once.

I go up the stairs and head to my room to find James sitting on my bed. "Hey, where have you been hiding?" James asks bitterly. I smirk. "Nowhere special. How are things in the kingdom?" I ask him and he stiffles a laugh. "Not so great. The king and queen are finally home. So you can assume that the kingdom's under a dark spell." I jump onto my bed and my brother rolls to the side. "What are they doing back?" I ask him quietly. "I honestly don't know." He answers truthfully.

"I don't like it when they're back. And then they try to act like they've raised us and shit." I scoff. "It sucks." James agrees. "You want some food? I'm starving." I say and James nods. "Pizza?" He asks. "Pizza." I say and then add. "Maybe 'pizza' will be our 'always'." I quote The Fault In Our Stars. He laughs, shaking his head. "How's school?" I ask, changing the subject once again. "Decent. A little 'thug' if you ask me." James said. "Well, I am asking you." I remark. James rolls his eyes, gets off my bed and throws my car keys to me. "Let's just go." He sas. "Feisty, I like it." I tease and he rolls his eyes but smiles anyways.

"Don't make plans for tomorrow night." My mom says at the dinner table later that night. "Why?" I ask. "We made plans for us to go see the family tomorrow. You guys get to see your cousins tomorrow." My mother explains and I sigh. "Great." I say sarcastically. "Watch your tone." My father warns. "Yeahhh, can I be excused?" I say, already standing up. "You haven't eaten anything." My mother says and I'm climbing up the stairs when I yell out. "Not hungry." Just as I'm about to close my door, I hear my mother sigh. I unlock my iPhone and send a quick text to Avery, asking how her day went.

Averyy👑 - fine, but we need to talk.

I furrow my brows and groan. Those words are never good, but I have no idea how I could've fucked up so quickly. I just got back from California.

"Okay then." I say awkwardly. I go to my music icon instead, click shuffle and Pierce The Veil's "Tangled In The Great Escape" sarts playing. I'm as straight as a pole, but I am gay for Vic Fuentes; if I'm being honest. "I know you're tortured within, and your eyes like hungry again. But I'll never wander my friend." He sings and several Weeknd sings come on after. "I got her on her knees, like religion." He sings and then I feel the end on my bed sink. I remove my arm from my eyes and find Avery looking at me.

I pause my music and smirk. "Hey, what are you doing here?" Avery shrugs and sighs. "I needed to talk to someone. And no one's willing to talk to a hypocrite." She says .bitterly. "Av, you okay?" I ask, sitting up. "Dylan and Emma hooked up." She says, looking straight ahead. "Uh, okay?" I ask, confused. "Dylan cheated on me; again." Avery says, turning to look at me now. "What do you mean again?" I ask, my anger rising. Avery practically deflates and says "This isn't the first time he's cheated on me. As far as I know, it's the second. Who knows how many times he's cheated on me?" She laughs bitterly.

"So he's a fuckboy?" I deadpan. "Pretty much, yeah." She says and now lays on my bed. I get up from my bed and start pacing. "I'm going to murder him." I mummble and Avery laughs. "You won't be the only one. Ryder and Marco will probably help you." She says, ever so casually. I stop my pacing and look at her. "What?" She asks and I shake my head, amused. "Come here." Avery says and pats the spot next to her on the bed. I debate it but end up losing pretty quickly and sit next to her.

She crawls onto my lap and I shake my head. "I have a proposition to make." She says and I bite my lip. "Alright, lay it on me." I say. "Okay, well since I'm a hypocrite, we're going to have to sneak around. Like we did in the beginning." Avery moveser hair to te side and I rest my mouth on her shoulder. "Is that what you want?" I ask her softly anf she shrugs. I retract my lips from her shoulder and look at her. "Av, if that's what you want, then we'll do it." I say and she nods. "Okay then." I say and kiss her lips softly. I pull away and look at her. "I thought you were happy with Dylan." I say softly and she shakes her head. "I thought I was. I thought it was what I wanted. But it wasn't." She says.

"I want you to know that I would've fought for you. I was going to, but you seemed happy. And a girl like you deserves to be happy." I tell her and she kisses me harshly. I lay her on my bed and she wraps her legs around my waist. After a couple more moments of kissing her, I pull back to let her catch her breath and I scoot down some and slowly lift her shirt off. I start kissing her neck and then slowly go down her collarbone and over her breasts. I go down the middle and kiss her ribs and her stomach, all the way down to the waistband of her jeans and kiss each of her hip bones.

I look up to see her and she's looking down at me, looking so beautiful. She smirks at me and turns me to my side and then gets on top of me. "My turn." She whisphers (suductivly) in my ear and my breathe hitches. She takes my shirt off and pushes me back and kisses my lips. Her delicate hands trace circles around my six pack and she moves down and kisses my neck. She softly starts sucking on my skin and then starts peppering my upper body with kisses.

When she gets to the waistband of my jeans, she slowly starts teasing me and tugs at the waistband to the jeans that are now a little too tight on me. She looks up and smirks when she notices this. She unzips my jeans and I swear I practically stop breathing. "Avery," I start. "Shh, baby." She says and I gulp. "JOSH!" I hear my father yell from the stairs. Avery looks back at me, wide-eyed, and she starts putting her shirt back on. I pull my pants back on and zip them up and tug my shirt back on.

"Window." I hiss to Avery and she nods. "Bye, I'll call you." I say to her and she nods again. She starts climbling out the window when I pull her back and kiss her harshly on the lips. She grins and says "Bye." She finally climbs out and my father yells for me again.

I roll up the sleeves of the sky blue button - up shirt I'm wearing and tie the laces of my Sperry's . I pull up my khakis and smooth down my white t-shirt. I run my fingers through my hair and sigh. I really didn't want to go to this dinner but I know there's no way out of it. I shove my phone in my pocket and fix my hair. "Josh! Let's go! We're going to be late!" my mother yells and I sigh. I open my door and run down the stairs and out the door and into the car. I look at James , who's tigging on his bowtie and scowling. Jesus, I think this kid did more scowling than I do.

The car pulls out the driveway and starts making its way to a richer part of Durham. We quickly drive up to the only big, mansion style house and pull up into the oval driveway. "Kendra!" a middle-aged woman comes running to greet my mom in heels. "Emily, hi!" my mom greets her and they embrace. I stand with James , awkwardly to the side and then the lady, Emily, turns to us. "Oh my goodness! Is this Josh? Look how much you've grown, ooh!" She exclaims and I look at my mom for help. "Boys, this is your aunt, Emily. You probably don't remember her." My mom says. 'Nooo, you don't say.' I can't help but think.

We follow Emily, my aunt, back into the house and take a look around. "How's Southern, Josh? Do you like it?" Emily asks and I shrug. "It's okay, I guess." I say. Emily's smile falters and then she says "You know your cousin -" She soon gets cut off when a a girl around James's age comes running down the stairs. "MOM! A- " She stops when she see's us. "Jessica, these are your cousins and aunt and uncle." Aunt Emily says. "Since when do we have family here?" she asks instead. "Couple months now." Emily says.

"Great." Jessica says sarcastically. "And why are you dressed like that? I told you we were going to have guests over." Emily scolds. "So what? They're family, it shouldn't matter." Jessica rolls her eyes. I like this kid. Not only that, but she's wearing a Nirvana t-shirt and jeans paired with all black Converse. "Jessica! Where is my curling iron?!" someone exclaims and out comes a girl around my age. "Alexia, meet your cousin, Josh." Emily says and I'm staring back to the same familiar face I'd befriended. "Shit." Alexia mummbles and then turns bright red.

So, the Devil's my cousin?
