Marry me," Josh says out of nowhere one day, as we float in the water of the pool at his house. This catches me so off guard that I sit up and began to swallow the entire pool. I cough up water and head to the edge of the pool, and pull myself out. I cough for a few more times and I settle on the burning concrete.
Josh swims over to me and pulls himself up beside me. "You okay?" He asks me and I nod, causing me to let out a few more coughs up. "So, your answer?" He presses and I want to throw myself back into the water just to not answer.
"Josh, just 4 years ago, I couldn't get you to be loyal to me and now you wanna marry me?" I say. I know I'm comparing him to who he used to be. But I couldn't help it. I was insecure sometimes.
"Avery, that was 4 years ago. Have I done you wrong since then?" Josh says, clearly a little hurt.
"No, but.." I said but he cut me off.
"Avery Maria Hernandez, will you marry me?" Josh said, and he pulled out a ring from his swim trunks. Tears prick at the back of my eyes and I nod.
"Yes," I manage to choke out.

"Do you, Avery Maria Hernandez, take Joshua Redfern to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
Avery nods. "I do."
"Do you, Joshua Redfern, take Avery Maria Hernandez to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
"Do I? I mean, I do. I do." Josh says and he chuckles a bit. Of course he'd mess up during the most important moment in his life. I roll my eyes at this.
"I know pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride." The priest says.
Josh grins and pulls Avery to him, kissing her passionately and everyone cheers. She pulls away, laughing, her cheeks tinted pink from the flush. After a few moments, Avery comes over to me and I hug her.
"You know, I've never had a brother before." She says.
"James! Come here for the picture of the groom and his best man!" Josh shouts and I roll my eyes.
"Glad you're part of the family," I tease Avery and after another quick hug, I go over to Josh, and clap him hard on the back.
"You finally got cuffed for real, must suck," I give him a smile.
"It's amazing, if anything." Josh's smile widens and we pose for the picture.
My brother finally found happiness, and I was happy that he did.
