323 Help Me Catch Elijah
âYouâre up,â Adele breathed a sigh of relief when she saw his brows flutter open. She was standing, unable to sit anymore and do nothing.
Although she knew Aziz would survive, she hadnât slept a wink that night, keeping watching over him and making sure nothing happened.
âYeah,â Aziz said, trying to sit up only to wince slightly when he moved the bad arm.
âNo, donât move, youâd need a lot of rest for the time being,â She told him, gently pushing him back down to the bed.
Aziz sighed heavily, shutting his eyes close for a few minutes only to open them, and saw Adele staring at him in a way thatâs quite creepy.
âWhy are you staring at me that way?â He needed to know when to run for his life, âMostly, in horror movies, people turn into monsters when they look that way. I donât want to end up as a meal in your stomach.â
She glared at him, âAre you still in the mood to joke?â
âItâs the only thing I can do to distract myself from the pain. And you still havenât answered my question?â
Adele sighed, then sat down on the edge of the bed with her arms folded across her chest, âIâm trying to figure you out,â she said.
.....
He arched a brow at her, âAnd have you been able to figure me out?â
She leaned over him, âNo, leaves me more confused than ever. Youâre like a pyramid I canât comprehend yet so enchanting at the same time that I canât help but want to reach it.â
He gulped, âIs that a love confession?â
She answered, âI hate pyramids.â
âOh,â Aziz said. The answer was even more confusing.
âWhy did you save me?â She asked, looking at him with burning intensity. It almost seemed as if the answer would determine whether he lived or died.
âI donât know,â He answered, âMy body just kind of reacted. You can think of it as a maleâs protective instinct towards the female. Or if it makes you laugh, saving a damsel in distress.â Aziz thought it sounded funny, but it didnât to her.
âIâm not a damsel in distress and you interrupting my duty stopped me from going after him,â She protested, sitting back up. Her back was straight.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
He wondered if Adele ever relaxed and had a good time because she always seemed in control and ready for action.
âYou would have been dead if I hadnât interrupted you. And who the hell was that guy? Something tells me youâve had a history with him.â Aziz pried for information while keeping an innocent look.
âNo, I didnât have a history with him until today, seems I have fallen in his good grace,â That was said with deep sarcasm, âTo be precise, he has bad blood with the boss, Marcel. Both of them are arch-nemesis and....â She trailed off as if wondering why she was telling him all of this.
âAnd?â He inquired further, not satisfied with the little treat she gave him. The info was sweet but not satisfying.
Adele looked him over as if deciding if she was making the right decision by feeding him the sensitive details. But then, whether she liked it or not, he has already gotten himself involved by taking that bullet for her.
If she doesnât keep him informed, heâd probably go about, poking his nose in business that doesnât concern him just to get information on the accident and the perpetrator and might bring unnecessary attention to himself, and land in hot soup.
By then, it would be his fault. Moreover, whatâs the possibility Elijah himself wouldnât come after him? No, the phantom ghost had more important things than going after some newbie who rescued his target. She should be worried about her safety.
Also, what has she got to lose except gaining a partner? Well up until tonight, she had been suspecting that Aziz was Elijah. Well, that suspicion has been killed by what happened tonight. Aziz even risked his life for her, he deserves the truth at least.
With a renewed determination, Adele began, âHis name is Elijah, and debuted into the industry months ago and got the title already, heâs famously called the phantom ghost. Heâs a freelance mercenary whoâs known to find his targets, they donât find him. His record is clean and untraceable. Unfortunately, Iâve been tasked with finding this ghost and I believe thatâs the reason he came after me tonight. â She explained to him.
However, Adele muttered under her breath,â I must be close to uncovering him, no wonder he wants to take me out, â She said and didnât notice the deep look on Azizâs face.
Yes, she was indeed close to finding him, that was why he had to push the attention from him, and as well, gain her trust aka killing two birds with one stone. He reasoned.
âBut then,â Her face flickered back to him and Azizâs expression returned to normal. She told him, âSince youâve heard of this now, it means weâre in this together. You, Aziz, are going to help me find this ghost, Elijah. Letâs see if heâs as dead as he rumored.â
Unfortunately, no, heâs very much alive and standing in front of you, Elijah fought back the urge to laugh hard till tears escaped his eyes.
If he had known his actions would get to this point, he would have assumed a more comic personality so it wouldnât seem suspicious if he laughed now. You know Joker style, â I have a laughing conditionâ shit.
However, he only expressed shock as he pointed to his chest, âMe?â
âYes, shocker, right?â Adele gestured animatedly, âAnd before you reject this offer, let me inform you that if we pull this off well, you might be working your way to becoming Marcelâs right-hand man. Yeah, youâd be working with that boss directly without any intermediary,â She knew it would shock him and it did.
âSlap me!â Aziz couldnât believe it, happiness spreading over his face, âThat would be like a dream come through.â At last, his plans came to fruition.
âYes, indeed. A dream come true for both of us. I have a good feeling about you, Aziz and I know we would work out fine.â
