324 His Unsettled Affairs
Adele left the room after she received information that Marcel was there. She met him in the clinicâs hallway and sat down right beside him on the bench.
Marcel, who had lowered his head, lost in his thought, lifted his face the moment he sensed her. He looked at her thoroughly, scanning for injuries that he thankfully couldnât find. Adele might not be his sister but she was family and he took care of his own.
âThey said you got shot,â He pointed out.
âOne of the boys took the shot for me. Heâs the promising newbie Iâve been trying to introduce to you. However, heâs handicapped at the moment, I guess the both of you would meet at a better moment when heâs recovered.â
Marcel didnât say anything but she could tell from the look in his eyes that he gave assent. He asked her, âThere was no trace? â
âNothing as usual. His plan was clean which was not surprising since he had the element of surprise. I think he orchestrated the other gangâs infiltration into the club to distract and lower my defenses. I looked down at them, and got careless. I forgot I was dealing with a dangerous man and almost got killed. However, Iâm sober now and he wouldnât get away with it the next time, â Adele promised him, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. She failed Marcel and the thought didnât sit well with her.
âNo,â Marcel told her instead, â I should be the one apologizing for putting your life in danger,â His gray eyes bored into her dark ones, âHe must know that youâre looking for him.â
âAnd I must be close to finding him,â Adele added with determination, âFor Elijah to react this way, I must have dug too deep enough that it made him comfortable.â
Marcel sighed, âThis is dangerous,â
.....
Adele frowned, and sensing what he was about to do, said immediately, âIâm not taking my hands off this investigation.â
âIâm not going to say that when I know youâd only work behind my back and endanger your life the more. You donât know what Elijah is capable of. The fact that youâre still alive means Elijah doesnât want you dead yet, he merely rattled you,â He added, looking her dead in the eyes,â The phantom ghost never misses. â
Adele let out a grotesque snort,
âThat was a warning then, âA warning that Aziz was currently suffering the aftermath,âHow merciful.â
âIâm just saying you should be careful,â
âFine, dad.â She sassed and he glared at her.
Marcel finally stood up, his mission here was fulfilled. However, he remembered something at the last minute and said to Adele, âOne of these days, you should hang out with Arianna, Iâm sure the both of you would work out fine.â
âIâm a busy woman.â She retorted.
âA busy woman in need of friends. Arianna needs company. Itâs a nice setup.â He demanded.
âFine, Iâll come around like an obedient chaperone and entertain your lovely girlfriend.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âSheâs not -â
Adele raised her brows, as if challenging him to deny her feelings for Arianna.
â... my girlfriend yet,â He said instead.
âIâm not trying to butt into your affair, but as a fellow woman, I suggest you clean your gardens first before you decide to play house,â She reminded him of his betrothal to Clara and his affairs with other women in the past that may or may not have been settled.
Adele stood up to whisper into his ears, âHell has no fury for a woman scorned. Donât wait until you learn to make your move because experience is a painful teacher.â And with that, she left.
Perhaps, because of her warning, Marcelâs expression changed when his phone flashed and a name he had forgotten for so long appeared on his screen on his way home back to the base.
Macy.
And sheâs one of his unsettled affairs.
âHello?â He said with a deep voice devoid of all emotions as if he was speaking to a stranger for the first time.
Perhaps due to his unfriendly response, Macy changed her way of addressing him at the last moment, âHello, Mar-boss.â She said,
âWhat is it?â He asked without inquiring how she was doing and that alone was a stab to her chest.
The Marcel she knew would have called her since the day of that incident. He was slipping through her fingers and she knew that and was desperate to crawl her way back into his grace.
âI-I just wanted to inform you that I would be back to work soon. Iâm fully recovered now,â She said and Marcel finally remembered that Arianna broke her nose that day when Macy tried to kill her.
Fierce, little thing, even in the face of death, she didnât forget to leave her marks on the enemy, Marcel was so proud of her. At that moment, if Arianna was beside him, he would have reached out and patted her head, complimenting her for a work well done.
Honestly, Marcel had forgotten all about Macy after that day and even thought he fired her. Turns out that she was merely recovering from the wounds his baby girl gave her. His baby girl? He felt like grinning at the endearment.
âYou donât have to worry about returning so soon, Macy, have more breaks.â
âWhat?â She was not expecting that.
âTake advantage of all the leave that is due and you missed out on because of your dedication to work. Donât worry about money, youâd be compensated immensely and funded right after this call. Travel around the world, have all the fun you want, two months? Three months? Six months? Take it all and return later. Good luck on your vacation.â He ended the call.
âH-hello? Hello? Boss? Marcel?!â She shouted when the call ended in her ears.
With great anger, Macy tossed her cellphone to the wall and screamed. She knew this method, having given the same orders in his place to his other affairs over the years.
No, he canât get rid of her like this. She had prepared for this for so long that she canât give up now.
