779 She Was Thinking Too Much
She knew it! This man was not ordinary and that was proved when he mentioned her daughterâs name. Alarm bells went off in Angelicaâs head and she lowered her hands to her lap, fiddling with them nervously. Whatever Daniel wanted from her, Angelica had a feeling that it was not going to be favorable to Adele.
She lifted her head to meet Danielâs gaze, but the intensity in those gray eyes made her uneasy. There was just something about him that unsettled her and if he aimed to scare her, it was definitely working. But Angelica pushed her fear away and went straight to the point.
âWhat do you want from me?â Angelica asked him, knowing he had ulterior motives for inviting her over. There was no way a man like him would send his people to get her here if he didnât want something important from her.
âPatience,â Daniel said nonchalantly as if he had all the time in the world.
âNow tell me.â He said, picking up the menu on the table and going through it, âWhat do you want for breakfast?â Daniel asked her.
Angelica frowned, her temper slowly beginning to rise to the surface as she said, âIâm not hungry, so perhaps we can start this conversation and get it over with.â
âIn that case, you can watch me eat then,â Daniel decided, gesturing to the waiter to come and serve him, taking his eyes off her.
âFine,â Angelica grumblingly snatched the menu from him with a glower. What kind of annoying man was this? How does he expect her to sit and watch him eat breakfast while she had nothing this morning?
Looking through the menu, she settled for buttermilk oven-fried chicken with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Angelica handed her order to the waiter, turning her attention back on Daniel who was staring at her with intrigue.
.....
âWhat?â She scowled at him. Why was he looking at her that way? Surely, he didnât fancy her or something â this was not the first time sheâs had men falling for her at first sight. The first thing men always noticed about her was her beauty and this man called Daniel couldnât be one of them too, right?. Or perhaps she was thinking too much.
âIâm just trying to correlate the similarities between you and Adele and aside from the physical attributes, you are nothing like her and she is nothing like you. The both of you share nothing in common.â He scrutinized her.
She narrowed her gaze at him, âShould I take that as a compliment or what? Why do I find your words kind of offensive?â
Daniel shrugged, âIâm merely pointing out the fact that both of you are special in your own ways. Unlike Adele, you areâ¦.â His eyes scanned over her in such a way that made heat rise to her cheeks, âFragile yet ferocious. I can see where Adele got her fire from, at least, itâs not from her useless father.â He was not bothered that he just insulted her daughterâs father right in front of her.
The same couldnât be said for Angelica who glared at him so deep she could bore a hole in his head. Whatever illusion she had about Daniel was shattered the instant those words left his mouth. He was nothing but a stalker and a bully. Daniel has no respect for her.
âFor someone who seems so interested in me, you fail woefully at getting on my good side. You have no right to judge Benjamin that way.â She said between her teeth, âItâs none of your business.â
âYou think that I am interested in you? Thatâs quite a bond claim to make.â Daniel scoffed as if he found the thought utterly hilarious. However, in the next minute, his searching gaze swept down her body and he said smugly,
âAlthough I would have to admit that you are beautiful and itâs natural for us men to find someone like you attractive. Isnât that the reason why my dear cousin Benjamin shackled himself to you and wouldnât let go despite having a wife?â He added immediately, âBut you have nothing to worry about, I get my dick satisfied somewhere else,â
Angelica went so red in the face that one would think that she was about to explode. And she did explode.
âWhat do you take me for?!â She stood up abruptly, slamming her hand down on the table so hard it rattled, âYou had them bring me all the way from my place just to reduce me to what?! A whore?! Is that it?â She shouted at the top of her voice, seeing red.
At this point, other customers in the restaurant had their eyes on them, drawn by the drama and Daniel was not a fan of such ânegativeâ publicity. But he bore the embarrassment by not looking at them and said to Angelica through gritted teeth,
âSit down woman, we are not done here.â
Hearing that, Angelica sneered, âFuck you,â She gave him the middle finger and didnât bother reaching for her things since she came with nothing. She didnât leave her house and come here to be insulted by the asshole. Who does he even think he is?
If only she knew.
âAnd this is why women should have never been created in the first place.â Daniel muttered to himself as if he was some actor in a show, delivering a monologue.
He clicked his tongue, âSo emotional.â amid the disapproval coming from the audience who saw their little drama. But then, he was not affected by such sentiment.
However, in the next minute, Daniel dragged his ass off the chair and went in pursuit of the woman.
âAngelica!â Daniel shouted after her when he got outside but she walked on in strides, purposely ignoring him.
Daniel breathed deeply, he didnât sign up for this. And yet, he ran after her until he overtook her, blocking her path.
Angelica glanced up at him with a glare, âGet lost.â she hissed.
But Daniel was calm as still water. He said to her, âI told you that I am not done with you.â He added, âAnd do you know, no one walks out on me, those who attempted such disrespect didnât see theâ¦.â
Daniel was still talking when Angelica saw a man step out of the street only to pull out a gun suddenly and aimed it at Daniel.
âOh no!â She panicked as bile rose at the back of her throat. Angelica didnât know what happened next, but she reacted by turning Daniel the other way, putting herself in harmâs way instead as the gun went off.
