Chapter 23 Stubborn And Unyielding Matthew cast a cool glance at Aurelia.

Finished She was pinning a woman to the ground. The latter’s face was battered and swollen red. Yet, she appeared nonchalant and innocent.

Looks like she’s feeling better now.

Gordon was taken aback when he saw Aurelia.

Then, with a stern face, he turned to the manager. “Tell me what’s going on.”

The manager was on edge, wondering why Matthew would come here today to witness this scene.

If he didn’t handle this situation well, he would risk losing his job.

Suddenly, Aurelia realized that this hotel and the entire building belonged to Quigley Group, which explained her encounter with Matthew here.

The manager promptly explained to Matthew what had just transpired and how he intended to resolve the matter, using the most concise words.

Upon learning the ins and outs, Matthew swept his gaze over the other individuals in the office.

An involuntary hush fell over the room.

Although Luna did not involve herself in the company’s affairs, everyone in the upper–class circle had heard of Matthew.

Moreover, her husband had been hinting over the past few days, expressing his intention to seek an opportunity to introduce Melanie to Matthew.

This was a plan to elevate the status of the Leedon family in Jacaster.

When she saw Matthew, she was shocked and filled with regret. She wished she hadn’t made things difficult for Phyllis, which allowed Matthew to witness the scene of Melanie being hit.

This greatly damaged Melanie’s image.

When she saw Aurelia still acting rudely and pressing down on Melanie, she nearly lost her sanity. Is Phyllis just going to stand there and watch? Is she not going to stop Aurelia?

“Aurelia, get up from me! How could you just hit me like that?” After regaining her senses, Melanie immediately assumed the posture of a helpless victim.

Phyllis realized that the situation was quite complex.

She was afraid that Aurelia might be implicated as well.

“Now that I’ve cooled down, let’s just let this matter rest,” Luna said, showing a degree of magnanimity. “In the future, when you hire employees, you must thoroughly investigate their background.”

Tears streamed down Melanie’s face, making her appear even more fragile.

In contrast, Aurelia appeared to be a bully.

She lifted her leg, then nonchalantly stood up.

“Phyllis, no matter what, you must apologize to the guest first,” the manager insisted, indifferent. to whether they knew each other or not. In front of Matthew, he had to handle this matter properly, although he did not know what Matthew and Gordon were thinking.

“Do I need to repeat myself? My mother did nothing wrong. They framed her. Should I call the police?” Aurelia grasped Phyllis‘

hand.

Phyllis said softly to Aurelia, “Auri, perhaps it’s best if I apologize so we can put this matter behind us.”

Aurelia gave a shake of her head to express her stance.

If they backed down this time, it would only encourage Luna and Melanie to become more brazen and shameless in the future.

“You!” Luna was infuriated.

“You just hit me...” Melanie said with her head bowed, biting her red lip, seemingly still afraid of Aurelia.

Aurelia was all too familiar with Melanie’s pretentious demeanor. She said with a smirk, “Even if we were at the police station, it would still be a case of me over–defending myself. If you had no intention of striking me, why would I have hit you?”

“Auri never initiated a fight,” Phyllis testified.

Matthew gave Luna a cold glance, then he turned his gaze toward Aurelia.

Their eyes briefly met before they simultaneously shifted their gaze away.

Matthew looked at Gordon.

“Take care of this.”

Despite Aurelia’s successful evasion of bullying and her impressive retaliation, Luna could only attribute it to her misfortune that she mistreated her own daughter and encountered Matthew.

“Pull up the surveillance footage to see if they have falsely accused our hotel staff. If they have, call the police immediately.”

Upon hearing these words, the manager was stunned.

Luna’s face changed. “What?”

Melanie turned pale with fright. “Is this how you handle things when Mr. Quigley asks you to?”

Aurelia nodded at Gordon as a sign of gratitude.

“Thank you for believing in me,” Phyllis immediately said to Gordon.

“As for you, today’s incident clearly shows that you lack professionalism and objectivity. Go to the finance department and collect an extra month’s salary, then resign on your own accord,” Gordon said to the manager.

The manager had just issued an order in the work group chat, instructing them to check the surveillance footage. Unexpectedly, he found himself being fired.

This was the best job he had found in years.

The monthly salary was high, and the work environment was quite decent.

Am I really fired just because I was wholeheartedly protecting the customers?

Luna and Melanie were flustered.

Luna glared at Aurelia and Phyllis, feeling frustrated. She thought about how well she had treated Aurelia over the past six months, only for her to side with Phyllis against her now and was livid.

However, the matter absolutely couldn’t reach the police, as all the events were distinctly captured by the surveillance cameras.

Her eyes darted around, and with a gasp, she exclaimed, “How did the ring end up here? It was a misunderstanding on my part.

There’s no longer a need to review the surveillance footage or involve the police. Today’s incident was due to my oversight.”

Suppressing the pain in her face, Melanie played along and said, “So it was in your bag all along? This whole thing was a misunderstanding, then.”

In her previous life, just like now, they had made mistakes that were exposed. Yet, they had casually dismissed it as a misunderstanding, which didn’t lead to any significant consequences. They had advised her not to take it too seriously.

Back then, she had thought that family shouldn’t be too petty with each other, so she had easily forgiven them.

They didn’t really think they were wrong.

“It would be better to clarify everything in front of the police,” Aurelia said, her tone indifferent.

Gordon had investigated the relationship between Aurelia and the Leedon family. From the information he gathered, it appeared that Aurelia was always ready to assist the Leedon family in any way possible, showing a strong desire to integrate herself into their household.

Suddenly, he recalled the instructions Matthew had given him a few days ago to withdraw support to the Leedon family. It seems that the relationship between the Leedon family and Ms. Shaw is not very good.

“Auri! What on earth are you trying to do!” Luna’s patience had completely worn thin.

Melanie was both angry and anxious. What’s the matter with Aurelia all of a sudden? Why is she so stubborn and unyielding?
