Chapter 34 Ask For My Help âItâs all in the past. Whether they treated me well or not no longer matters,â Aurelia said sparingly, not wanting to cause them to worry.
If they were to learn about everything that transpired in her previous life, Aurelia figured the two might confront the Leedon family to no end.
Both Xavier and Charlie fathomed what the answer was. The Leedon family had indeed treated Auri poorly!
âThe Leedon familyâs PR team is formidable. Auri, we must prepare for the worst, Xavier said in a grave tone.
Aurelia nodded, âWhen posting on my Instagram. I knew things could escalate.â
Besides the video, she also had chat logs in her possession and records of the blood takings at the hospital over the past six months.
She didnât care whether she would fall out with Gideon and Luna. They didnât care, so she had even less reason to.
After some thought, Xavier handed his phone to Aurelia. âAuri, take a look at my chat history with my friends. Their concerns do have some merit.â
âOkay.â
Aurelia read the entire chat from beginning to end.
After she read it, her delicate countenance turned both somber and icy.
After her rebirth, many things had transpired. It seemed she had acted a bit hastily on this matter.
Meanwhile, at the Leedon residence, Luna glanced at the clock on the wall.
It was eleven oâclock at night.
âYour dad summoned Benjamin to the company a few hours ago. Itâs already eleven oâclock now, so why havenât they returned yet?â she asked Spencer.
Spencer had been on vacation these past few days and had plenty of time. He was currently browsing through online comments.
The PR team hired by the Leedon family was quite efficient. They had now completely taken the initiative. He figured perhaps Aurelia would return to apologize to them first thing tomorrow morning.
âThereâs been a lot going on at the company recently. I just tried calling Benjamin, but he didnât pick up, Mom, go upstairs to sleep. Perhaps Dad and Benjamin are out socializing. Itâs uncertain whether theyâll be back tonight.â Spencer didnât seem too concerned.
âOkay. Itâs normal to be busy as the company has been collaborating with Quigley Group these past two months. You should rest at home today. Mel has locked herself in her room. She must be very scared and sad. You should go upstairs later and have a chat with her.â Luna stood up, advising Spencer as she prepared to head upstairs.
When Spencer heard the mention of Quigley Group, his eyes lit up. âCould our family really have the Chapter 34 Ask For My Help Luna nodded with a hint of pride. âIt seems that Quigley Group has recognized the potential of our Leedon family. Since Benjamin joined the company, there have been many changes that are quite impressive, Our Leedon familyâs future in Jacaster will be even more promising. Your father is even considering marrying Mel to Matthew. Thatâs why we must handle todayâs matter thoroughly. We canât give others the chance to find fault with Mel. As for Auri, once she sincerely apologizes, weâll spend some money to send her abroad.
âDid Matthew take a liking to Mel?â Spencer was surprised.
At the same time, he couldnât contain his excitement. IâIf we really do establish a connection with the Quigley family in the future, wonât I be able to do as I please in the entertainment industry?
Luna thought back to the day when Matthew showed indifference toward Melanie. She was about to say that he hadnât shown any interest, but then she remembered Matthewâs high status and his natural tendency to act aloof. Luna nodded and said, âMel excels in every way. He will come to like her.â
âIâm going upstairs to check on Mellâ Spencer quickly dashed up the stairs.
As Luna was about to follow him upstairs, she suddenly thought of Aurelia. Unconsciously, her gaze drifted toward an inconspicuous spot in the living room.
Originally there was a painting hanging up there..
Where did the painting go? Luna furrowed her brows, contemplating whether on the servant.
However, the words died on her lips. After all, it was just a streetâside painting she had bought online. If it was gone, it was gone.
By the time Aurelia returned to Starry Sea Mansion, it was already half past eleven at night.
The light on the first floor was on.
She ascended the stairs with a light, careful tread, then gently pushed open the room door.
After taking a bath, she lay in bed and scrolled through her phone.
Just a moment ago, Luna sent her a WhatsApp message urging her to apologize to the Leedon family. After that, they would find a way to send her abroad. Theyâre truly obliterating even the slightest bit of familial affection that stemmed from our blood relation that I have for them.
A few minutes had passed when she was about to turn off the lights and go to sleep. Suddenly, she felt a bit thirsty, so she picked up her cup and went downstairs.
When she arrived downstairs, she surprisingly found Matthew was also there.
He was dressed in gray loungewear, exuding an air of casualness and languidity.
He appeared completely different from his usual cold and aloof demeanor.
If one were to say that seeing him at the hospital during the day could leave women in awe and fascination, in the evening, there was something captivating about Matthewâs dark eyes.
They seemed to hold a mesmerizing glow that could easily take oneâs breath away.
Aurelia couldnât help but let her gaze linger on him for a few seconds.
Chapter 34 Ask For My Help âYouâre back?â He held a cup of water in his hand, a faint scent of coffee wafting through the air.
Aurelia hummed in agreement, first pouring herself a glass of water. Then, recalling that he seemed to have some sleep issues, she asked, âAre you drinking coffee?â
âIt is coffee.â
âDo you still have work to deal with?â Aurelia initially wanted to remind him that drinking coffee could affect his sleep, but then she thought, if he had chronic sleep issues, he would probably know very well what he should and shouldnât drink before bed.
So, she didnât say anything more and promptly changed the subject.
Matthew gazed deeply into Aureliaâs eyes. âIndeed. There are some matters that need to be addressed.â
Aurelia nodded. âI wonât disturb you any further. Good night.â
She carried her glass of water upstairs.
Just as Aurelia was two steps away from reaching the second floor, Matthew called out to stop her.
âDonât you have anything to say?â Matthew held a cup of coffee in one hand, the other tucked in hist pocket. His gaze was cool yet profound as he looked at Aurelia.
If she were to seek his help now, he would assist her out of respect for Mabel.
Aurelia was surprised. She said with a faint smile, âI probably wonât be able to get up early tomorrow morning to visit Grandma.
Iâll go to the hospital in the afternoon instead. By the way, hereâs a gentle reminder. Drinking coffee at night really does affect sleep.â
Having said that, she ascended the last two steps without looking back and returned to her own room.
Standing rooted in his spot, Matthew slightly furrowed his brows.
Aurelia acted as if nothing had happened, remaining calm and composed.
Had Matthew not witnessed her frailty when she was sick and in tears, he would have truly believed that she was strong, so much so that she didnât need anyone elseâs help.
He shifted his gaze back, glancing at the cup in his hands.
The coffee was still swirling inside the cup, and wafts of coffee fragrance drifted out.
Indeed, he couldnât sleep. Drinking coffee was merely his attempt to alleviate the restlessness caused by his insomnia.
After setting down the cup, he, too, ascended the stairs.
Just as he was about to push the door open to enter the room, Aureliaâs door swung open unexpectedly. Then, a face, both innocent and desirous, peeked out first.
Matthew paused for a few seconds, looking at Aureliaâs face, and thought to himself. Sheâs finally going to ask for my help now, isnât she? She was likely feigning composure by acting nonchalant earlier, a classic case of playing hard to get.
âMr. Quigley, please wait a moment.â After Aurelia finished speaking, she returned to her own room.
