"YOU'RE KIDDING me," McConnon couldn't contain his laughter. After beginning to panic about the whole situation with Meggie, I decided that it was a good idea to tell my boss.

I'd heard enough stories about how accusations were made against the innocent party. If Meggie felt like it, she could have reported me to HR, and accused me of sexual harassment. I didn't want to go to that extent for her, but I wasn't going to risk being accused of something that I didn't do.

"Surprising to you and me both," I said. He slapped his hand onto his desk, and squeezed his eyes shut, as fits of laughter erupted through him every few seconds.

"Gosh, that made my day," he rubbed his forehead with a big smile on his face.

"I'm thrilled that I finally managed to entertain you."

He nodded, and cracked another laugh, "you're the last person I'd think she'd go for. Last I heard, she was sleeping with one of the mailboys downstairs."

I wanted the day to end so that I could have headed home, and smother myself into my pillow, "maybe she's bi, I don't know. The point is, that I made my part in all of this clear. If she ever proceeds to falsely complain about anything, you're going to have my back."

"Just complain to HR if you're so worried, Alyssa."

"Should I take such a drastic step?"

He shrugged, "I doubt it. You're overthinking. But if she does proge the situation, it will be in your good interest to do so. Then again, you'll be in Chicago soon."

"Might be," I corrected and he waved his hand dismissively.

"Fine then. Come find me when you've made up your mind, Miss Hard-to-please."

"Look, I've built my life around this office. It's not that easy to pack up and move," I told him.

"Excuses, excuses. You know, Wong has already offered himself up. So if you don't make your decision quickly, I might just send him instead."

"Maybe you should do that."

"Alyssa—"

"I told you to give me until Monday. If you can't have some patience then I'm fine with you sending someone else in my place."

"You don't like your family much, do you?" I narrowed my eyes. He knew nothing about my family life. It wasn't that I disliked my family, it was just that I was better off loving them from a distance.

"I'll see you on Monday," I stormed out of his office in agitation.

"THAT'S QUITE sweet," Delia giggled over the phone. I was at home, in my pajamas, catching up on a few episodes of Girlfriends' Guide To Divorce, when my phone began to buzz. I was surprised to see that the caller was Delia, but happy to have her entertain me for a few minutes.

"It's quite terrifying, that's what."

"Oh, come on. It's just a little crush. She'll get over it. Why are you worrying so much?" I sighed and punched my head onto a pillow.

"No reason. What are you doing?"

"Just sitting on my balcony overlooking the dark sky, and thought I'd call to check up on you," she said.

I smiled, "that's sweet, darkness reminds you of me."

"No, no. I've just been busy all day, and I finally got some time to—"

"I was just kidding, Delia."

She breathed in deeply and exhaled, "have you given any thought to this weekend?"

"I thought that you've been busy," I teased.

"I'll carve the time out for you. But only if you're available."

"I'm up for it. But what are you planning exactly?"

"Just remember to wear something comfortable. I'll pick you up at 3pm."

I hadn't worked for the majority of the Saturdays in the year. But I did have to run a few errands that day, "I'll make that work," I flipped onto my stomach, and propped my elbows on the bed, as I leaned my cheek against the phone.

"I promise that it'll be a friendly meetup. I'm not going to try to seduce you, in case you're wondering," what if I want to be seduced? I gritted my teeth, as my body tensed.

"Between you and my assistant, I feel somewhat attractive for once."

"What are you talking about? Don't tell me that you're insecure. Cause you're gorgeous."

"Eh. Thanks," I giggled, "you're just saying that because you want to get inside of my pants."

"Well, I wouldn't want to get inside of your pants if I didn't think that you're attractive."

I smiled, "so you are trying to seduce me?"

"What, no, I mean," she paused for a moment, "wait, are you trying to seduce me?"

My eyes widened, "what would make you think that? I would never—okay, I don't know. You're pretty tempting and all, but—"

"Got ya," my face became flushed. Fuck, "I'm pretty sure you're more into women than you think."

I sighed, "must you tease me? God knows that I might even be attracted to a duck at this point."

"Is it a pretty duck?"

She could be funny, "I'm looking forward to Saturday. Just don't stand me up, cause that really pisses me off," I said.

"I'd never. I'll be at your door 3pm sharp. And who knows, maybe I'll even bring flowers."

Flowers? Now I have to dig a vase out of my storage.

"I like white roses, just for reference."

"Note taken. I'm going to get in the shower, and head to bed. It was nice talking to you, Alyssa."

"Okay. I'll look out for a message from you tomorrow."

"Why do I have to message first? I like to wake up to messages too, you know."

I turned on my side, and took a deep breath, "I'll see about that. Goodnight, Delia."

"Goodnight, darling."
